Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to understand how female social workers in heterosexual partnerships are experiencing the balance between work and family life. Six female social workers in heterosexual partnerships were interviewed in a qualitative study. Greenhaus and Beutell (1985) theory on the role conflict helped the researcher to identify the factors which contributed to the level of work-family conflict. Time-consuming work-related factors were one of the main reasons why respondents felt both stress-based and time-based conflicts. Availability requirements was experienced in parallel from both family and work. It could be interpreted how women's level of work-family conflict was affected by the number of hours the man in the partnership worked in the week. Because of the small sample it was not possible to generalize the result to a larger context in relation to previous research. Common to all respondents was that they all worked within the individual and family care in Stockholm.
