Alien Children and Ideological State Apparatuses – How Momo, Pippi, and the Sams escape ideology (English)
Abstract [en]

Ideology, as explained by Louis Althusser, is used by ideological

state apparatuses (ISAs) to reinforce the control of the dominant class.

ISAs in turn consist of elements of society such as families, schools, and

churches. In the works of Michael Ende, Astrid Lindgren, and Paul Maars,

Momo, Pippi and the Sams defy the ideologies and norms of their

respective societies. This thesis shows that the three children can do this

because they are alien children and therefore exist beyond the reach of the

ISAs of their respective worlds.
