Abstract [en]

Previous studies show that a mutual understanding and mutual definitions of what inclusion and participation mean are important to have as a teacher. If children are excluded it could lead to impaired mental health and education difficulties later in life. The purpose of this study was mainly to find which tools preschool teachers can use to make inclusion and participation possible for all children regardless of their personal experiences, backgrounds and prerequisites. By interviewing educators and observing them while interacting with children these tools could be found. In total twelve different tools were used to make inclusion and participation possible. The most common tools used were a democratic attitude, teamwork, verbal communication, body language, gestures and physical changes in the environment. The main contribution this study was able to bring in a preschool context was definitions of which tools to use and a specific attitude necessary to have as a teacher to make inclusion and participation possible for all children.
