Incels – a threat to society and the individual? (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to investigate which knowledge professionals have of incels. We wanted to find out if incels are a social problem and in that case if and how society should act. To obtain answers to these questions, six qualitative interviews were conducted with social workers who integrate gender equality into their daily work. The collected data has been analyzed with a thematic analysis. The results show that there is a lack of knowledge amongst professionals regarding incels, and a lack of knowledge about the causes of loneliness and exclusion. The results also show that incels are a social problem that is best solved through more research and preventative efforts. Our study indicates that more research is needed in this area to avoid that the incel-phenomenon will spread, and so that new extremist groups are not created.
