Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

In this essay, two schools with different access to resources for ICT (information and communication technology), in terms of computers and tablets, are compared. Pupils in school year 9 on both schools participates in a survey about self-assessed learning of ICT-competences, above all within MS-office. Furthermore, they answer questions concerning their personal interest in computers, which is compared to their self-assessed ICT-competence.

ICT in education is important to counteract socio-economic differences in society. This survey indicates that there is a difference in self-assessed learning of ICT-competences between the two schools where the survey took place. In matters of self-assessed ICT-competences there is a larger difference between the two schools with different access to ICT-resources than between the pupils on each school divided by how they answered the questions about own ICT-interest. There could be a connection between large presence of resources for ICT and high results in self-assessed ICT-competences.

Resting on international thesis and the learning theories of Dewey, finally the result of the comparison of the two schools is discussed and some thoughts on future school improvement are expressed.
