Abstract [fr]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this dissertation is to treat aspects of women's freedom in the Persian Letters. Indeed, in this book Montesquieu offers a reflection on the situation of women. The analysis is based on some key concepts such as: the notion of freedom and its representation throughout the Persian Letters, as well as the image of the Eastern woman and its close link with the vision of the Western woman of the time. In our work, we studied the function of the seraglio and its direct role in the presentation of the condition of the woman. Moreover, our analysis has led us to study Montesquieu's position vis-à-vis this major and controversial character in the Persian Letters.
