Abstract [en]
The Truth Commissions are an extrajudicial mechanism of transitional justice
through which the aim is to satisfy the victims' demand for the truth. In Latin
America, more than five Commissions have been carried out, one of the most
important ones -given the results in its final report and difficulties that had to be
overcome- the Commission for Historical Clarification of Guatemala (in Spanish
Comisión para el Esclarecimiento Histórico de Guatemala and its abbreviation
CEH). Therefore, the CEH is an illustrative case of the successes and failures of
these mechanisms, especially to give light to the Colombian case whose
Commission for the Clarification of Truth is operating (in Spanish Comisión para el
Esclarecimiento de la Verdad de Colombia and its abbreviation CEV).
In this text a comparison between the two commissions is made, in order to
determine which the coincidences are, but also what makes both processes
different from each other.
