: A qualitative study on kin placement from the perspective of the social worker (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

According to Swedish legislation, the social services must first consider the child`s network, a relative, if a placement becomes relevant. The purpose of the study is to gain in-depth knowledge of how social workers perceive kin placements. The study was conducted with a qualitative approach where six social workers, all with experience from kin placements, answered semi-structured interview questions. The empirical material was analyzed thematically using theories based on power, social bond and attachment. The result showed that the experiences of the social workers are mostly consistent. They have a generally positive picture of kin placement, although they also address several disadvantages that weigh in. They mean that they always must look after the best interests of every child and base on what they need. Where relationships work between the parties concerned, they think that kin placement is a good alternative.
