Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

In today's media debate, the social service is criticized for sometimes allowing children to move home to a parent who is convicted of violence against the other parent. However, the media does not problematize what "the best interest of the child" means but focuses only on the fact that one of the parents is convicted of violent crime. In this study, five interviews are conducted with social secretaries who have experience of work with children and families. The purpose was to find out how they consider what is the best interest of the child in their investigations regarding social affairs and custody issues. The interviews were analysed based on qualitative content analysis. The results of the study show that the respondents adhere to the prevailing laws and guidelines and that there is a risk of subjective judgments.
