This study seeks to investigate the relationship between “textism” use and writing among adolescents. To accomplish this, 20 students between the ages of 12 to 16 were included in this study located in Doha, Qatar. To answer the research question that leads this study, various methods were employed. First, participants completed an online questionnaire regarding their personal text messaging habits. A writing task that explored textism usage was further included in the aforementioned questionnaire. Second, the standardized Schonell Spelling Test aimed to reveal participants’ general level of English .The research findings did not demonstrate a linear result that swayed either way. Thus, there is neither a positive nor a negative correlation between the use of textism and spelling. The findings propose an indication that the study may not have garnered an appropriate amount of data as a result of the small amount of participants and material. Other factors such as participant bias are potential reasons for the lack of appropriate data.
