Teaching gifted children in mathematics - A qualitative interview study about adaptation, identification, challenge and teachers’ perception of gifted students in mathematics at primary school (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study is to provide knowledge about how mathematic teachers in grades 1-3 describe that they perceive the concept of gifted students, how they identify the mathematically gifted students, what challenges they face and how they adapt their teaching to give mathematically gifted students the opportunity to develop in mathematics. The survey consists of semi-structured interviews conducted with active mathematic teachers. The results shows that teachers adapt their teaching to the mathematically gifted students in different ways and that they find different parts challenging in the work with this group of students. The teachers' perceptions of mathematically gifted students varied somewhat and their way of identifying this group of students. On the other hand, it is possible to draw connections between the teachers' different ways of thinking and working.
