Bakgrund Enligt svensk lag har alla människor rätt till lika vård. Vården ska ges med respekt inför patientens värdighet och stärka patientdelaktigheten. Forskning och rapporter visar att patienter med intellektuell funktionsnedsättning (IF) i större utsträckning erhåller sämre vård och omsorg.

Syfte Syftet är att belysa sjuksköterskors upplevelser av att bemöta patienter med IF inom hälso- och sjukvården.

Metod Examensarbetet genomfördes som en litteraturöversikt med inslag av strukturerad metodologi. Resultatet baseras på 14 vetenskapliga artiklar med kvalitativt inslag, funna på databaserna CINAHL, PubMed samt PsycINFO.

Resultat Resultat visar att sjuksköterskor upplevde god kommunikation som en viktig aspekt för gott bemötande, och något som ligger till grund för goda relationer och samarbeten. Detta presenteras under huvudrubriken främjande aspekter för bemötande. Sjuksköterskor upplevde även att brist på kunskap, utbildning och tid verkade som hämmande aspekter för bemötandet av patienter med IF. Detta presenteras under huvudrubriken hämmandeaspekter för bemötande.

Slutsats Sjuksköterskor ställs inför komplexa situationer i vårdandet av patienter med IF och upplever att olika aspekter påverkar bemötandet och vårdrelationen. Det är av vikt att sjuksköterskan reflekterar över och bejakar dessa aspekter i bemötandet till patienter med IF. 

Background According to Swedish law, all people have the right to equal care. Care must be given with respect for the patient's dignity and strengthen patient participation. Research and reports show that patients with an intellectual disability (ID) to a greater extent receive care of lower quality.

Aim The aim is to shed light on nurses' perceptions of meeting patients with ID in health care.

Method The study was conducted as a literature review with elements of structured methodology. The literature review is based on 14 scientific articles with qualitative elements, found on the databases CINAHL, PubMed and PsycINFO.

Results Results showed good communication as an important aspect for good treatment and an important aspect for good relationships and teamwork. This is presented under the main heading promoting aspects of treatment. Nurses also experienced that lack of knowledge, education and time act as inhibiting aspects for nursing. This is presented under the main heading inhibiting aspects for treatment.

Conclusions Nurses are faced with complex situations when caring for patients with ID. Nurses also experienced different aspects that affected the nursing and the relationship to the patient. It is important that the nurses reflect and acknowledge these aspects when treating patients with ID.
