Bakgrund: Varje år insjuknar 250-350 barn i cancer, i Sverige. Dödligheten hos barn med cancer är idag låg och möjligheterna att bli frisk av behandling är goda. Att ett barn får cancer är en av de mest smärtsamma upplevelser som föräldrar ställs inför och familjens vardag förändras helt. Under barnets vårdtid har föräldrarna en stor och viktig roll i att finns där och stötta barnet samtidigt som det själva befinner sig i en sårbar och tuff situation. Därav behöver föräldrarnas behov och upplevelser av barnets omvårdnaden identifieras.

Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva föräldrars upplevelse av omvårdnad för deras barn med cancer.

Metod: Litteraturöversikten baserades på 1 kvantitativ och 16 kvalitativa artiklar som söktes i databaserna CINAHL och PubMed. De valda artiklarna har analyserats utifrånFriberg (2022) fyra analyssteg.

Resultat: I resultatet framkom det att föräldrarna upplevde ett behov av att skapa en förtroendefull relation med sjukvårdspersonalen i samband med deras barns omvårdnad. Kommunikationen mellan föräldrarna och vårdpersonalen är en viktig aspekt för att föräldrarna ska få en upplevelse av minskad stress, oro och ångest. En tydlig, anpassad och öppen kommunikation mellan vårdpersonalen och föräldrarna ansågs uppskattande.

Slutsats: Att ett barn får cancer påverkar och involverar hela familjen, därav har det framkommit att föräldrarna upplever ett stort behov av stöd under sjukdomsförloppet. Det var viktigt för föräldrarna att skapa en förtroendefull relation med vårdpersonalen, vilket har bidragit till att föräldrarna får en känsla av trygghet i den situation de befinner sig i och vilket också har lett till att barnet känner sig tryggt. 

Background: Every year, 250-350 children get cancer in Sweden. The mortality rate is today low for children with cancer and the chances of recovery from treatment are good. A child getting cancer is one of the most painful experiences parents face and the family's everyday life changes completely. During the child's care, the parents have a big and important role of being there and supporting the child while they are in a vulnerable and tough situation. Hence, the parents' needs and experiences of the child's care need to be identified.

Aim: The aim was to describe parents' experience of caregiving for their child with cancer.

Method: The literature review was based on 1 quantitative and 16 qualitative articles that were searched in the databases CINAHL and PubMed. The selected articles have been analyzed based on Friberg's (2022) four analysis steps.

Result: The results showed that the parents felt a need to create a trusting relationship with the healthcare staff in connection with their child's care. Communication between the parents and the healthcare staff is an important aspect for the parents to have an experience of reduced stress, worry and anxiety. A clear, adapted and open communication between the care staff and the parents was considered appreciative.

Conclusion: When a child is affected by cancer it affects and involves the whole family, therefor it has emerged that the parents is in need of support during the course of the illness. It was important for the parents to create a trusting relationship with the care staff, which has contributed to the parents getting a sense of security in the situation they are in and which has also led to the children feeling safe
