Abstract [en]

Japanese manga is a worldwide phenomenon. As manga originates from Japan, it tends to be set in a Japanese cultural sphere and is written in Japanese. It is a cultural product, but how cultural the used language is changes from work to work, as do the ways these cultural words are translated into other languages. This study examines the cultural terms in manga ga Death Note and how these terms are translated in its Finnish version. It examines what translation strategies are used, in what kind of situations they are used and if the end results are foreignizing or domesticating. The results show that most of the terms are translated in a domesticating way and the most used technique is Equivalence.
