The purpose of this essay is to investigate if and how the participation and involvement amongst women have looked in the operations and activities of the YMCA-Örebro sports department during the period 1964-1969.
As source material I have used statutes and activity reports from the sports department, as well as relevant literature with women, sports, YMCA, and gender roles as keywords.
The results show that the sports department adapted to the way society looked and behaved. They didn't want to take any risks of getting written about in the newspapers like some others did. But at the same time, these organizations took an early step for women's equality in society.
