Abstract [en]

Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate unit managers' experiences and perceptions of work-related stress, how and why this stress arises, and finally, the effects it has on their psychosocial work environment.

Method: To answer the study's research questions, the respondents' own perceptions and experiences were examined. Interviews were conducted with six unit managers from the public sector. The results were then analyzed using Karasek and Theorell's demand, control, and support model, Goffman's dramaturgical perspective, and organizational theory.

Result: The results revealed various stress factors, their origins, and their perceived impact on the unit managers' psychosocial work environment. The findings were divided into three main categories: The Complex Organization, Being in an Intermediate Position, and Adapting to the Organization's Demands and Resources.
