Negative effects of foreign trade have been noted based on its effect on urban life. What differentiates the current situation from previous years is that stores, especially in small towns and in city centers, experience tougher competition from external shopping centers and from online shopping (Handelsrådet, Ekström, & Jönsson, 2021, p. 86).

Mora, one in a series of examples. From a lively city center through decades to a reality characterized by closures and bankruptcies, consequences such as gaping empty shop premises and a sparser city life. The corona crisis and infrastructure investments with a thoroughfare have further slowed development.

To strengthen urban environments, both better accessibility, higher supply and stronger coordination between the municipality, property owners and traders are needed (Söderling &Nedstam, 2024).

The aim of this work is to find factors that can contribute to an attractive and more vibrant city center and then apply these in a formative proposal for Mora city center. The essay is conducted as a case study with Mora as the case study. Research methods used are site analysis and qualitative text analysis.

The proposal is based on a socio-cultural sustainability perspective. Through a clear profiling and exemplification of the physical environment and its design, the report presents concrete measures in line with the municipality's vision and goals.

Negativa effekter av externhandeln har länge uppmärksammats utifrån dess effekt på stadslivet. Det som skiljer nuvarande situation från tidigare år är att butiker, framför allt på små orter ochi stadskärnor, upplever en hårdare konkurrens från externa köpcentrum, och från näthandeln (Handelsrådet, Ekström, & Jönsson, 2021, s. 86).

Mora, ett i raden av exempel. Från en livlig stadskärna genom decennier till en verklighet präglad av nedläggningar och konkurser, följder som gapande tomma butikslokaler och ett glesare stadsliv. Coronakris och infrastruktursatsningar med genomfartsled har ytterligare spätt på utvecklingen.

För att stärka stadsmiljöerna behövs både bättre tillgänglighet, högre utbud och starkare samordning mellan kommun, fastighetsägare och handlare (Söderling & Nedstam, 2024).

Syftet med detta arbete är att identifiera faktorer som kan bidra till en attraktiv och mer levande stadskärna för att sedan applicera dessa i ett gestaltande förslag för Mora stadskärna. Uppsatsen är genomförd som en fallstudie där Mora är studerat fall. Använda forskningsmetoder är platsanalys och kvalitativ textanalys.

Förslaget är framtaget utifrån ett socialkulturellt hållbarhetsperspektiv. Genom en tydlig profilering och exemplifiering av den fysiska miljön och dess utformning presenteras i rapporten konkreta åtgärder i linje med kommunens vision och målsättning.
