To be heard when it’s difficult to be heard : How case managers within the disability sector experience and work with users’ participation (English)
Abstract [en]
Case managers within the disability sector have an obligation to ensure that the individual user is participating and, therefore, the case manager must promote the users’ right to participation and self-determination. The study aims to investigate how case managers within the disability sector perceive and work with user participation in meeting with users where communicative difficulties arise. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine case managers within LSS, and the collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results highlight the case managers' views on user participation, noting that it is difficult to define but seen as an important part of the work. Furthermore, the results present different perspectives on how user participation can be promoted and the challenges that may be perceived as obstacles to user participation. The results also emphasize how case managers work to promote user involvement in meetings where communicative difficulties arise, as well as the experiences regarding this work that the case managers describe.
