Regeringen vill öka andelen utrikes födda kvinnor i arbete och har detta som ett prioriterat mål under 2024, då utrikes födda kvinnor är överrepresenterade när det gäller långtidsarbetslöshet.

Målgruppen för studien är utrikes födda kvinnor bosatta i socioekonomiskt segregeradeområden. På grund av deras bristande språkkunskaper genomfördes studien med cirkelledare inom folkbildningen, som har erfarenhet av att arbeta med målgruppen.

Syftet med studien är att, utifrån cirkelledarnas perspektiv, belysa och förstå de bakomliggande orsakerna till den höga långtidsarbetslösheten inom målgruppen, samt att skilja mellan individuella och strukturella orsaker till denna arbetslöshet.

Studien utgår från tre huvudsakliga teorier: Bourdieus tre centrala begrepp – kapital, habitus och sociala fält – samt Goffmans teori om stigma och det intersektionella perspektivet.

En kvalitativ metod och tematisk analys av det empiriska materialet valdes som forskningsansats. Studiens ansats är deduktiv, vilket innebär att forskningen baseras på befintliga teorier, tidigare forskning och empiri. Fem semi-strukturerade, djupintervjuer genomfördes med ett strategiskt urval. Kravet har varit att respondenterna har arbetat som cirkelledare i flera år, helst inom ämnena svenska och samhällsorientering, samt varit i nära kontakt med målgruppen.

Studiens resultat visar att det finns både individuella och strukturella orsaker bakom målgruppens långtidsarbetslöshet. De individuella orsakerna är: låg utbildningsnivå, den traditionella kvinnorollen, olika krav som ställs på målgruppen och deras syn på sig själva. De strukturella orsakerna är: brister i anpassad undervisning i svenska, boendesegregation och utanförskap, majoritetssamhällets fördomar och strukturell diskriminering.

The government aims to increase the employment rate of foreign-born women and has prioritized this goal for 2024. This is because foreign-born women are overrepresented among the long-term unemployed.

The target group for the study consists of foreign-born women living in socio-economically segregated areas. Due to their limited language skills, the study was conducted with the help of study circle leaders within adult education, who has working experience with target group.

The purpose of the study is to highlight and understand the underlying causes of high longterm unemployment in the target group from the perspective of the study circle leaders. Additionally, it aims to distinguish between individual and structural causes of high long-term unemployment.

The study is based on three main theories: Bourdieu's three central concepts – capital, habitus, and social fields as well as Goffman's theory of stigma and the intersectional perspective.

A qualitative method and thematic analysis of the empirical material were chosen as the research approach. The study has a deductive approach, meaning the research is based on existing theories, previous research, and empirical data. Five semi-structured, in-depth interviews were conducted using strategic selection. The requirement was that the respondents had worked as study circle leaders for several years, preferably in subjects such as Swedish and civic orientation, and had been in close contact with the target group.

The results of the study show that there are both individual and structural causes behind the target group's long-term unemployment. The individual causes include low educational levels, the traditional role of women, various demands on the target group, and their self-perception. The structural causes include a lack of tailored Swedish language instruction, residential segregation and social exclusion, society prejudices, and structural discrimination.
