In contemporary multicultural societies a widespread use of social media has provided individuals easy access to information and the ability to track inequalities. Consequently, it is important to investigate the potential effects of social media on people. This ethnographic study conducted in Sweden focuses on young students with foreign backgrounds and aims to examine how social media influences their attitudes towards their ethnic identity. Through semi-structured interviews, the study reveals that social media has a significant impact on the perception and formation of ethnic identity both in positive and negative ways. Despite initial struggles this thesis argues that most young students ultimately expressed satisfaction with their ethnic identity.
