The Road to Recovery : Women’s Personal Stories of Empowerment and Resilience in the Struggle against Alcohol Addiction (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This study explores how empowerment and resilience develop in women's autobiographical narratives about alcohol dependence and recovery. By using theories of empowerment, resilience, and stigma, as well as the learning model, symptom model, and lifestyle model, four autobiographies by women with firsthand experiences of alcohol dependence are analyzed. Through thematic analysis, the study reveals that empowerment and resilience emerge as central factors in long-term recovery. The findings suggest that overcoming stigma, establishing strong support networks, and developing self-agency are crucial for maintaining sobriety.
