Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Aim: The purpose of this study was to describe the primary nurse experience of person-centered counseling of patients with hypertension in primary care.Method: This study was conducted through empirical interviews based on semi-structured questions with a qualitative approach. Participants were selected at four different primary care centers in Mid Sweden including eight primary nurses. The selection was made through convenience sampling. Interviews were analyzed using qualitative content analysis.Result: Primary care nurses experienced that working with person-centered counseling for patients with hypertension was patient oriented and that interaction between nurse and patient was of great importance. This interaction was created through individually fitted two-way communication with the patient taking part and responsibility of his or her health as an important factor of rank. To individually fit the counselling and to work patient-oriented required broad knowledge and that the time required for counselling could be individually fitted. Conclusion: The process of person-centered counselling for patients with hypertension in primary care demands broad knowledge and that the time required should be individually fitted.
