Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Aim:The aim was to describe patients’experiencesof the information and support given by nurses in relationtocardiac surgery.

Method: The literature reviewwas conducted as a literature review based on 17 scientific articles, eight of them with qualitative approach, eightwith quantitative approachand one with mixed approach.

Result: The results showed thatpatientsoverall felt satisfied with the information they received. Deficiencies were seen regarding information on recovery after surgery and emotional effects that may occur due tocardiac surgery. Italso showed that patients received a good support, bothbefore and during admission to hospital. Patients experienced respect and percipiencefrom the nurses. It also showedthat high workload of the nurses affected patient'sperception of information and support. Lack of information and support was connected with worry and anxiety of the patient.

Conclusion:It turned out that most of the patients were satisfied with the information and support from nurses. Deficiencies in the nurse's information was perceived not as big as deficiencies in the nurse's support. This meant that patients sought support from relatives and other patients. The patient's experience of care is affected by the nurse's information and support.
