Abstract [en]

PurposeThe purpose of the present study was to investigate whether relatively cheap and simpletraining intervention without food adjustments in a realistic environment can positively affectbody composition in only five weeks. The training methods the present study intended toexamine were high intensity interval exercise (HIIT) and low intensity walks.Methods14 adults with a body mass index between 25-35 kg/m2 completed a five-week trainingintervention without food adjustments. Relative and absolute fat mass and lean mass wasmeasured before and after the intervention with dual-energy X-ray absorbation (DXA). Thestudy subjects were divided into two groups where one group was instructed to complete HIITfor 30 minutes three times/week and the other group was instructed to complete three 60minutes low intensity walks three times/week at an intensity of 65% of their maximal heartrate.ResultsThe results did not show any significant differences in relative fat mass, absolute fat mass orlean mass in HIIT or low intensity walks after five weeks of training. p>0,05 for each value.ConclusionThe results of the present study show that a five week training intervention consisting of HIIT30 minutes three times/week or low intensity walks 60 minutes/week without foodadjustments does not affect the body composition in overweight adults.

SyfteSyftet med denna studie var att undersöka om det är möjligt att med en relativt billig ochenkel träningsintervention utan kostreglering i en verklighetstrogen miljö ge positiv effekt påkroppssammansättningen under endast fem veckor. De träningsmetoder studien ämnadeundersöka var högintensiv intervallträning (HIIT) och lågintensiva promenader.Metod14 vuxna personer med BMI-värden mellan 25-35 kg/m2 utförde en fem veckor långträningsintervention utan kostreglering. Relativ och absolut fettmassa samt mager massamättes före och efter interventionen med hjälp av dual-energy X-ray absorbation (DXA).Deltagarna delades upp i två grupper där den ena gruppen blev instruerade att utföra HIIT 30minuter tre gånger i veckan och den andra gruppen blev instruerade att utföra tre 60 minuterslågintensiva promenader tre gånger i veckan med en intensitet på 65% av deras maxpuls.ResultatResultatet av studien visade ingen signifikant skillnad på relativ fettmassa, absolut fettmassaeller mager massa (fettfri massa – skelettvikt) inom HIIT eller promenad efter fem veckorsträning. p>0,05 för samtliga värden.SlutsatsResultatet av denna studie visar att fem veckors träningsintervention av antingen HIIT 30minuter tre gånger/vecka eller promenad 60 minuter 3 gånger/vecka utan kostreglering intepåverkar kroppssammansättningen hos överviktiga vuxna.
