Abstract [en]
The article investigates two Italian-language manuals for foreigners published by Ambrosio Frediani in 1660 in Greifswald, Germany, and in 1667 in Uppsala, Sweden. Following a short biography of Frediani and a description of the differences between the two manuals, the article focuses on the 1667 manual, which is the first Italian grammar published in Sweden. In this manual there are three long dialogues in Italian which the author of this article not only proves to have been plagiarized from Lorenzo Franciosini's Spanish manual for Italians, but also demonstrates that the dialogues belong to a much longer chain of plagiarism that can be identified in several nations for almost a century.
