This work is the result of a careful analysis and research on a very actual topic in the European continent; migration flows from North Africa towards Europe; migration involving people such as asylum seekers and refugees whose testimonies I have collected, additional to interviews of NGO personnel, in order to compose this thesis.
The main research problems of this qualitative thesis aim to investigate the main causes that lead people to leave their lands and how these decisions are influenced not only by certain push and pull factors but also by certain European policies and if it possible to stop irregular immigration by questioning the concept of "border".
The work is concluded with a testimony of a migrant, since it represents and sums up perfectly the thesis: the path of a migrant from his fears and uncertainties to his desire for a new start in Italy, that today, finally, he is part of.
