Avbrott i nätbaserade studier inom Komvux

Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Both internationally and in Sweden, research have been carried out about dropouts among dis-tance learning students. This research, however, mainly concerns university students and therefore I wanted to examine dropout reasons among distance learning adults on upper sec-ondary level (Komvux1). The purpose with this article is to find out if there are other reasons for this than the official ones shown by the statistics and what the teacher can do so as to pre-vent students from abandoning their studies. The study focused on Italian 1 (first level) and I did qualitative interviews with 8 students who quitted this course in 2015. The result shows that sometimes behind the official statistics, there were other reasons for the withdrawals and that several reasons often interacted. The result also shows the importance of proactive, teach-er initiated telephone calls to the students, both as routine calls in the beginning of each course and later on, when the students begin to fall behind.
