Sorcery and Spiritual Hegemony in Africa2021Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In Africa, the spiritual power is at the center of everyday life, politics and religion. Whatcharacterizes this power, in most of the continent, is its recourse to magic and sorcery. This thesisintends to to understand, if and how, the manipulation of a magical and spiritual reality, might havehelped a dominant power in exercising an hegemonic control. Or on the contrary, to dismantle it.The analysis will focus on two main sources: an ethnographic work based in Congo and a medievalepic set in West Africa.

    Abstract [no]

Building trust in times of crisis: A panel study of the influence of satisfaction with COVID‐19 communication and management2024In: Journal of Contingencies and Crisis Management, ISSN 0966-0879, E-ISSN 1468-5973, Vol. 32, no 1, article id e12531Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This study examines the relationship between citizens' satisfaction with government COVID-19 communication and management (SWCCM) and institutional trust. By employing a longitudinal approach, using three-wave panel data from Sweden from 2020 to 2022, the study addresses the current lack of research on the interplay between SWCCM and institutional trust across different stages of a societal crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic. The results show that SWCCM increased slightly over the pandemic period, while trust in institutions slightly decreased. The study also finds that changes in SWCCM predict changes in trust in institutions, suggesting that increased satisfaction with communication and management is associated with increased trust in institutions. Additionally, we find that higher initial levels of SWCCM contribute to a faster decline in trust over time. However, no evidence supports the idea that initial trust in institutions predicts changes in SWCCM. This suggests a unidirectional relationship where SWCCM is a key driver of institutional trust during a crisis. Overall, the study uncovers intriguing dynamics in the relationship between SWCCM and trust over time, and it emphasizes the significance of effective and consistent communication and management in maintaining and boosting public trust during crisis.

Slopad revisionsplikt: en studie av revisorers, bankers och Skatteverkets perspektiv2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Purpose: The purpose of our paper is to investigate the attitudes and impacts of the following three stakeholders: the Swedish Tax Agency, banks and audit firms after the abolition of the audit requirement.

Theoretical framework: Theories explaining the purpose of auditing are several. Three of these theories highlighted in Carrington's (2014) book are audit as assurance, improvement and insurance.

Methodology: This essay uses a qualitative method. The data collection includes information taken from seven semi-structured interviews and constitutes the empirical material of the paper. The empirical data is analysed where it is also set against with the theoretical framework.

Empirical: The empirical chapter of this essay introduces the results of the interview, i.e. the respondent's answers, opinions and thoughts. The results show that the respondents have similar views on the abolished audit requirement. Most of them have a positive attitude towards the change and they have also seen an improvement.

Results and conclusion: In our study, we have found that the abolition of the audit requirement has had no significant impact on either audit firms or banks. However, the TaxAgency has been affected. Increased tax errors and tax offences have led to the need for more resources and more control for the the Swedish Tax Agency. The abolition of the audit requirement has reduced the credibility of annual accounts, which has led banks to require companies wishing to borrow money to have their annual accounts audited by an auditor. We have also seen a tendency for small businesses to opt out of auditing to minimise costs

Digitaliseringens inverkan på redovisningskonsulters arbete: En kvalitativ studie om hur redovisningskonsulter förhåller sig till utvecklingen av digitalisering samt hur de upplever eventuella möjligheter och hot2023Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

We have studied the impact of digital tools on the daily work of accounting consultants. The purpose of the study is to explain how and why accounting consultants use and perceive digital tools in their work. The theoretical framework draws on previous research on the impact of digitalization on the accounting industry, digital tools used in the tasks of accounting consultants, and institutional theory to explain the changes in the accounting industry. The method we have used in our study was qualitative, involving semi-structured interviews with seven participating respondents. Our results have shown that digital tools have contributed to improvements and efficiencies. By implementing digital tools, accounting consultants have been able to reduce manual work and increase automation and integration with various subsystems and accounting software. This has resulted in time and cost savings, as well as improved accuracy. The study also shows that the adoption of RPA and AI technology offers a promising future, freeing up time for more value-added tasks such as advisory services, client interaction, and analytical work. To address the risk of the accounting consultant profession disappearing, the study emphasizes the need for adaptation, skills development, and security in the implementation of digitalization. It also highlights the lack of digital tool training for accounting consultants, with the responsibility for this currently lying on accounting firms.

Impacts of the Level of Swedish Language Knowledge on Refugees’ Employment and Occupational Matching2021Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of the research is to explore which level or levels of knowledge in the Swedish language can enhance the employment and/or occupational matching possibilities for refugees in Sweden.Methodology: This study conducts a quantitative research approach, Primary data was used, an online survey was distributed among a sample of Syrian refugees (defined as who were born outside Sweden with 0-9 years of residence in Sweden). Non-probability sampling by means of volunteer, snowball, and convenient sampling were used in order to collect the data, 112 valid responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics, reliability, multiple linear regression, multivariate analysis of variance and hierarchical multiple regression analyses.Findings: it is found that the relationships between the knowledge in Swedish language and employment either occupational matching are statistically significant. However, there are no significant relationships between the level of knowledge in Swedish language and employment and occupational matching. Moreover, demographic variables had hardly any influence on the employment and occupational. Nevertheless, the only effect has been observed is between the education variable and employment. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this research, it is detected that the level of the Swedish language does not play a considerable or notable impact on the refugees’ employment and/or occupational matching in Swedish labor market. So, attaining specific level in the Swedish language knowledge does not positively impact the refugees’ employment and/or occupational matching in Sweden.

Investigation of the impact of personal norms and environmental awareness to sustainable purchasing behaviour among tourists in Sweden: Quantitative Analysis2023Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This study examines into how tourists in Sweden engage in sustainable tourism by analysing the impact of personal norms and environmental knowledge on their purchasing decisions, with an emphasis on eco-friendly options for accommodation. The goal of the study is to ascertain how much sustainable tourism practices are considered by visitors in Sweden when making vacation choices. To do this, a survey was given to visitors (both domestic and international) to Sweden, and statistical analysis was done on the data gathered. The study's conclusions show a strong relationship between individual norms, environmental knowledge, and environmentally conscious purchasing practices among Swedish travelers. This shows that more environmentally conscious travelers are more likely to choose sustainable travel options, especially when it comes to choosing eco-friendly lodging. Policymakers, stakeholders in the tourist sector, and marketers wanting to promote sustainable tourism practices in Sweden can all benefit from the knowledge provided by these insights. The development of tailored measures to promote eco-conscious tourism behaviors among visitors to this Scandinavian destination can be aided by an understanding of the interaction between personal norms and environmental awareness.

Push Factors Affecting Licensed Swedish Scuba Divers2023Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Scuba Diving is a growing sport in Sweden and globally, as the sport continues to grow an understanding of what motivates individuals to participate in this sport becomes more important. This thesis was built upon previous studies in order to identify what push factors motivate licenced Swedish scuba divers to dive and investigate if experience levels had any effect on these push motivational factors. In order to answer these research questions, the author used quantitative research methods to analyse data collected from various dive clubs, dive centres, and Facebook groups targeting Swedish scuba divers. In total twenty different groups and organizations were targeted and a total of 370 responses were collected. Following this, six responses were removed from the sample due to them being blank or not relevant to the research questions. The data collected showed that Swedish scuba divers were mainly males between the ages of 35 and 55 years of age with at least a high school degree but more commonly at least a bachelor’s degree. Furthermore, five main motivational factors were found through the data analysis that involved 24 different motivational variables. Factor analyses of these motivational variables lead to five factors emerging, the most important of which was labelled Experience. The data also found that in four of the five cases, experience levels did not have a significant effect on the motivational factors of Swedish scuba divers. However, experience levels did influence one of the motivational factors found in the analyses. Further areas of research following this thesis may include a look at the pull motivational factors for Swedish scuba divers as well as further research into the relationship between experience levels and motivational factors.

Sanctions, what sanctions?: An empirical study on the effect of economic sanctions against the Russian Federation between 2014 and 20192021Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In this thesis we examine if sanctions had a causal effect on total trade on Russia after its annexation of Crimea 2014. To answer this a synthetic control method (SCM) and a difference in difference (DiD) method was implemented. The results show that a causal effect of sanctions was not found by neither method. However, the year 2016 and 2017 result gave a statistically significant causal effect with the SCM where the synthetic unit is 1.23 times greater than Russia. A general practical or statistically significant causal effect was not found.

Personliga amatörfilmer, ett professionellt bildberättande inom reklamfilm?: Analys av personliga amatörfilmer i fyra reklamfilmer2021Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Labour–management relations and employee involvement in lean production systems in different national contexts: A comparison of French and Swedish aerospace companies2023In: Economic and Industrial Democracy, ISSN 0143-831X, E-ISSN 1461-7099, Vol. 44, no 4, p. 1027-1051Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Existing research has found heterogeneity in the implementation of Lean and its outcomes in terms of employee involvement across countries. This article explores the potential role of labour–management relations. It relies on in-depth company case studies carried out in the aerospace industry in France and Sweden. The study finds significant variations in employee involvement – higher in the Swedish than in the French cases. Managerial orientations did play a role, as the ‘technocratic’ form of Lean in France echoed a more unilateral top-down conception of management, while Swedish managers appeared more receptive to the ‘involvement-enhancing’ paradigm. But the attitudes and behaviours of unions were also a crucial factor, as Swedish unions were very effective in impinging on the implementation of Lean at workplace level, while their French counterparts, often divided, adopted a more defensive stance, lacking expertise and implication in the promotion of high-involvement work organisations.

Lokala partsrelationer och organisatorisk flexibilitet: omställningar inom hotellbranschen under covid-19-krisen 2020–20212023Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Many of the municipalities in Sweden experience socioeconomic residential segregation which increase the polarization between high- and low-income groups and contributes to a higher degree of inequality between people. Previous studies on neighbourhood effects have mainly examined on a city district level and some of them show that different factors such as health, education, participation in politics and trust in society varies depending on where you live. However, there are fewer studies investigating the segregation on a municipality level which this study does for the purpose of getting an overview of the residential segregation in Sweden. By using inequality index as a measure of socioeconomic segregation this study examines how different variables of causes and social and political consequences may correlate with the segregation. To find out if there is a connection between the inequality index and the variables supposed to be causes and consequences of segregation a regression analysis and a correlation analysis is used. The results are showing that small as well as large municipalities are experiencing a residential segregation and the weight of structures on a higher degree of socioeconomic residential segregation. There is also a correlation between the segregation and several negative outcomes on social and political variables. Based on the results, a conclusion can be drawn that the segregation not only contributes to injustice among individuals but also between the municipalities since some of them seem to possess more numerous of problems than others regarding the living environment.

Personifiering av politik: En fallstudie med komparativa inslag av Sveriges riksdagspartier på Instagram2023Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

With the change from the most stable party system in Europe to a decline in party membership and a fragmented parliament, Sweden has lost its’ unique status in European politics. A weakened collective identity and changes to social structures have brought the phenomenon of personalization of politics to the attention of scholars. The phenomenon, which centres on the increasing meaning of individual politicians at the expense of a decreasing importance of the political collective, is this studies’ theoretical framework. This study aims to examine the presence of personalization of politics among Swedish parliamentary parties on Instagram. In order to analyse the Instagram accounts a quantitative content analysis was conducted over three separate periods from the election month of 2014, 2018, and 2022. The findings suggest that no linear trend is to be found, however the level of personalization of politics is generally high among the parties on Instagram. Furthermore, the centralized personalization, the focus on party leaders, is exceedingly prominent among the studied cases.

Shutdown of the local official Tourist Information Centre. How does it affect the local businesses?: A case study of Idre, Sweden.2021Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In the end of the summer 2020, the local Tourist Information Centre (TIC) in the rural tourism destination Idre, Sweden, was shut down. The regional DMO Visit Dalarna took this decision as a way of saving money and go toward another kind of tourist information system where the tourists need to find other ways to obtain tourist information. But the TIC does not only play a certain role for the tourists, but also for the local tourism businesses. This research aims to investigate how the shutdown of the local TIC in Idre has affected the local tourism businesses. Through semi-structured interviews, 10 businesses with varying characteristics in and around Idre have been able to talk freely about how they have experienced the TIC’s shutdown and what role the TIC played for the businesses. They were also able to talk about how they feel about the new tourist information system, developed by the DMO Visit Dalarna, that consists of more web-based tourist information, a call centre and Info Points. The interviews have been transcribed, coded and understood through thematic analyse. The result revealed that The TIC plays an important role for the businesses both directly and indirectly through its effects on the destination development and the tourists, which in turn affects the businesses. Though, it is possible to distinguish a pattern where the TIC in general had more functions for the smaller businesses than the bigger ones. This research contributes to DMO’s and municipalities about the effects of designing a new tourist information system where there is an absence of a local TIC. If a new tourism information system is created without involving tourism businesses in the decisions, there is a risk of decreasing trust and partnership between the businesses and the DMO.

Political animals during a pandemic: The impact of political culture characteristics on non-pharmaceutical intervention effectiveness2021Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Over the course of 2020, different countries all over the world implemented combinations of non-pharmaceutical intervention (NPI). This meant that these governments imposed restrictions that were difficult to enforce (due to the scale of the policies) in order to protect public health from the threat of COVID-19. This is an interesting quasi-experimental setting in which to test the compliance with government prescriptions of populations with different political cultures. With the help of European Social Survey data, and the John Hopkins University dataset on the spread of COVID-19 around the world, the present work aims to test the impact in a sample of European countries of different political culture characteristics on the spread of coronavirus, and thus on compliance with NPIs. The results show that countries with higher social capital follow NPIs more strictly, especially if this capital is of the bonding kind. Moreover, both interpersonal trust and trust in institutions play a role. The former has a positive effect, while the effect of the latter depends on the type of institution: trust in government and parliament does not affect citizens’ behavior, while trust in political parties, justice, the police and the healthcare system does.

Latinamerika i diktaturens grepp: En komparativ studie av demokratiutveckling i Brasilien och i Chile under 60-, 70- och 80-talet2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Radiodramats ljudberättande: En kvalitativ intervjustudie om ljudberättande inom radiodraman riktade till barn2023Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

There are countless decisions that companies and their managers face every day. For the companies to succeed and reach maximum profitability, making good decisions is essential. To do that, accounting information can have an essential role in the decision-making. There is a theoretical idea of what role accounting information should have, but the question is how well it works in practice. Is the accounting information of use in the decision-making process?

The following made us interested in seeing how accounting is used in practice and investigate how useful accounting information is perceived in the decision-making process. Earlier studies identified that a problem in SME companies was that owners and managers do not find the accounting information useful while making decisions. Therefore, our study focuses on if factors such as education influence owners and managers use of accounting information.

The study applied a qualitative method and was implemented by six interviews with respondents from different companies. From our empirical material, the accounting information was found to be useful in the decision-making process. However, the decision made, cannot be described as rational as theories suggest it should be. Most owners and managers try to use accounting as facts in their decision but on some occasions, the decision is based more on intuition. We could also draw the conclusion that the accounting used most was external accounting and that factors such as education can have a positive effect on the owners and managers use of accounting information.

Regeringsbildning i Sverige: En teorikonsumerande fallstudie om koalitionsbildningen i Sverige efter valet år 20182021Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Like many other parliamentary democracies, the government building process in Swedenstarts when all the votes are counted and it’s clear what proportion of the vote each party hasreceived. Since the country applies the proportional electoral system, which enables smallerparties to get into the Riksdag and complicates the government formation process. The aim ofthis thesis is to seek an understanding of the causes behind the Swedish governmentformation process that took place post the general elections of 2018. Thus, the study intendsto answer the following questions: How can one understand the causes behind the Swedishgovernment formation process of 2018? In what way can this be explained using the minimalconnected winning theory? The following thesis is a theory-consuming case study analyzing the causes behind thecoalition building process that led to the formation of the current Swedish government withthe help of Axelrod's minimal connected winning coalition theory and the hypothesis of theincumbent government. By applying the theory to analyze the two main ideologicaldimensions that prevail in swedish politics with special focus on the GAL–TAN dimension inrelation to the positions of all relevant parties regarding the government formation the studyhas found the following: The parties positions regarding the coalition building that led to thegovernment formation was informed by a combination of both their ideological beliefs andpolicy goals.

Hälsofrämjande arbete i ideella organisationer: Hur ideella ridskolor arbetar med att skapa en hälsofrämjande arbetsplats2021Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to investigate how non-profit organizations work in Sweden towards a health-promoting workplace as few studies in health-promoting work are carried out in non-profit organizations. The study focuses on non-profit riding schools in Dalarna. Sick leave in Sweden in 2017 amounted to SEK 62 billion, where mental illness was the basis for almost half of the amount. Previous research has shown that the work environment affects employees' mental health. Therefore, well-being in the workplace is of great importance due to its role in creating a health-promoting workplace. A health-promoting organization has positive effects on both the individual and the organization and prevents sick leave. The theoretical frame of reference for the study is based on previous research in the subject of health-promoting workplaces. The empirical study is based on five semi-structured interviews conducted via Zoom and telephone due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The results show factors that are prerequisites for health promotion work. One of the factors is education, partly in health-promoting work as the results have shown that some respondents are not familiar with the concept of health-promoting work and that work takes different places in the non-profit riding schools. Leadership training is also important. Another factor is resources where time, support and finances are included. The results show that the time is often not enough to work to promote health and that the support from the board is often lacking. However, finances are also an obstacle and therefore it can be difficult to bring in extra resources. The results also point to participation and cohesion as well as communication as important factors in the health promotion work. Lack of communication has been shown to be the cause of conflicts, communication has also been shown to be the solution to conflicts. For the development of health-promoting work in non-profit riding schools, the results point to a need for knowledge in health-promoting work and also in leadership. The need also clarifies the Board's responsibility for its role as an employer.

”What’s all the fuzz about?”: En analys av den komiska gestaltningen i Hot Fuzz2024Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Organizations annually invest significant amounts of money in leadership training, according to previous research. The leadership training UL is one of Sweden´s most established. It is of interest to study how the objectives of the education are met by its participants. This study is a bachelor´s thesis in the Human Resources and Labour Relations Programme at Dalarna University. The purpose of this study is to examine the understanding of one's own leadership in relation to UL's objectives between respondents who completed the education in 2020 and 2022. The study's starting point is based on an employee perspective, but the results are also of interest from an employer perspective. The interpretation of this qualitative empirical study is based on the limited previous research that exists around one of Sweden's most established leadership educations. Eight interviews with managers in municipal operations form the basis for the study's data collection. The respondents' answers have then been compiled via a thematic analysis. The results show that the understanding of one's own leadership in relation to UL's objectives differs between respondents who completed the training in 2020 and 2022, respectively. In one group, several respondents only reproduce what should be done hypothetically, while most of the other group are involved in the detailed implementation of actual actions and situations. The respondent groups could not be separated as to the significance of the reflection, however, lack of time in the daily work was reproduced jointly by the respondents as an obstacle to the execution and prioritization of the reflection. The marked difference between the groups was found in the use of self-insight to develop their own leadership. One group actively described how they used self-insight and awareness about it, something that could not be identified in the other group that only reproduced presumed answers in the form of what should be done or overall answers about how the leader in general should act.

Man är aldrig helt ensam: En analys av hur berättandet om ensamhet i The Perks of Being a Wallflower möjliggör karaktärsidentifikation2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Behind the Miranda tool: A technical report on a decision support tool for tourism and travel investments2022Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This report provides a brief explanation of the MIRANDA tool and its links to the D.U.GIS platform. The report also presents system components and data sources used within the MIRANDA tool.

The starting point for the development of the MIRANDA tool has been the call for better understanding of the scale and scope of tourism at the local and regional levels. The purpose of the MIRANDA project was to develop a micro-based decision support to be used by public planners for more efficient and sustainable decisions regarding infrastructure investments in connection with destination development.

This report gives a brief introduction to the project before starting out with an overview of the MIRANDA-tool’s software architecture. This is followed by a description of the Coding languages, a section giving information on the Class libraries, as well as the type of data used. Following this are two sections describing APIs and the system model, before a final section concludes by giving an outlook for future development options for the MIRANDA tool.

Segmentation and travel trends of French tourists in COVID-19 times: The case of Costa Daurada (Catalunya, Spain)2021Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The COVID-19 pandemic has had and is still having an impact on the tourism industry fromwhich destinations and business want to recover, especially those areas highly dependent onthis economic sector. The current thesis aims to determine the travel intentions of the French population to the regionof Costa Daurada in the summer season of 2021, considering their demographic characteristicsand their engagement with the expected global travel trends identified after the COVID-19outbreak, since it had an impact on travel behaviour around the globe.Using a quantitative approach, valid data from 398 French people were collected using anonline survey. Their travel intentions for the summer season 2021 regarding the Costa Dauradaand their engagement with the expected global travel trends identified after the COVID-19outbreak were analysed by developing t-tests, ANOVA tests and linear regression with SPSS.The results allowed identifying sociodemographic characteristics that relate to the intention totravel to Costa Daurada among the French population: age and a previous visit to thedestination. Age had a statistically significant positive weak relationship with the intention totravel to Costa Daurada in the upcoming summer season of 2021 and people who visitedpreviously the destination were more interested in going again. Also, it was found thatengagement with the expected travel trends had a statistically significant positive weakrelationship with the intention to travel to Costa Daurada in the upcoming summer season of2021. On one hand, engaging with eco-tourism was identified to have a statistically significantpositive weak relationship with the intention to travel to Costa Daurada in the upcomingsummer season of 2021 by itself. On the other hand, avoiding organized trips showed astatistically significant negative weak relationship with the intention to travel to Costa Dauradain the upcoming summer season of 2021 by itself. The findings could benefit destination and business marketers to adapt and promote thefacilities and activities that are more attractive to the French tourists that showed more interestin travelling to Costa Daurada. Business and policymakers from Costa Daurada could focus onthe target segments that can facilitate a recovery in the tourism industry, transforming theintention to travel there into real trips to the destination. Also, it broadens the previous researchon segmentation combined with tourists’ intention to travel after crises and disasters, buildingon the literature body that examines the travel trends that appeared with the COVID-19 andchecking if the main expected ones were also visible in the French market.

Human kriminalpolitik eller hårdare tag?: Socialdemokraternas kriminalpolitik 2002–2022. En kvalitativ fallstudie om hur mycket Socialdemokraterna följer sin ideologi i kriminalpolitikens utformning.2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

This study was aimed to investigate how a ”us and them” emerged in a group of young poeplés description and approaches to individuals and groups with a religiois identity. As a method to investigate this, a qualitative and semi-structured interview was done with six high school students from northern Sweden. When the interviews was done, an analysis was made using a social constructionist framework in general and three constructions of a ”us and them” as social, congruent and conflictual in particular. The results showed that all students used a social, congruent and conflictual creation of ”us and them” related to religion in different ways. The social construction was found to be interwined with the congruent construction in most students desciptions. Most of the students described that a sense of fellowship and shared values is what creates an ”us” and separates groups into ”us and them”. In the students approaches to religions and people in general, who were incongruent with themselves, the conflictual construction of ”us and them” was shown. This category included extremism, generalization of religious individuals and political views.

Genus och sexualitet i religionskunskap: En innehållsanalys av hur genus och sexualitet framställs i tre läromedel i religionsämnet för gymnasiet2023Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this essay is to analyze how textbooks in religious studies describes gender and sexuality. The textbooks that were chosen are used in upper secondary school in Sweden. The method that was used was a content analysis with the help of queer theory and intersectionality. There is not much Swedish previous research on this topic. The analyze of the textbooks showed that there are varying amounts of different expressions for gender and sexuality in all the textbooks. A couple of common expressions that were shown was that men is superior to women, women’s place in the religious hierarchy is questioned, that sexuality is something that has its purpose in a marriage and to get pregnant, and that homosexuality is still something that is considered abnormal. These expressions could mostly be found in chapters dedicated to marriage, gender, or sexuality but there were also expressions in the chapters about the different religions. The differences between the textbooks were mostly how much expression there was about the gender and sexuality but also what kind of sexuality that was mentioned in the textbooks.

Kvinnor inom musikproduktion – upplevelser avgenusnormer och diskriminering2021Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Previous research has shown that breastfeeding in public environment is not completely accepted, neither in Sweden nor internationally. Therefore, women feel restricted. Research indicates that the female body is sexualized and the woman is seen as an object. However, it is possible to change the norm concerning public breastfeeding, it’s done by people questioning, being educated about but also being exposed to breastfeeding. The aim of the study is to examine women's perceptions of breastfeeding in public space, their potential strategies and which societal changes they find are needed for safe breastfeeding in the public. This qualitative study is based on five semi-structured interviews with women who have experiences of breastfeeding in public environment. Thematic analysis method and abductive analytic strategy was used. The analysis is informed by feminist theories on gender and public space. The results indicate women’s perceived fear of receiving unwanted attention, gazes and insecurity. To be able to breastfeed in the public, the women created safety strategies such as covering up, planning and creating “an own private room”. The analysis shows that the women see both themselves and society as responsible for change and that normalization is required.

Multimodalitet i Eurovision Song Contest: Hur en publik bedömer ett musikframträdande på tv2024Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Since its debut 1956 Eurovision Song Contest has been a live televised music competition. Over several decades the contest has evolved and with modern technology the contest is about more than just the musical aspects. There are now many more factors to consider while watching and judging the competing acts. Various modes of communications, such as audio, visual, and performance elements, collectively create meaning and contributes to the overall viewing experience. To understand which elements are more profound in creating meaning, a study of seven Eurovision fans was undertaken in a focus group. The fans got to watch seven handpicked Eurovision performances from within the past decade (2014-2023). The result is a discussion about how this audience perceive and value modes and to which degree these aspects generated meaning for each of them individually. Through a comprehensive analysis of the discussion, the study aims to uncover patterns, preferences, and the evolving role of multimodality in shaping the audience's perception of Eurovision as a multimedia spectacle. The participants were able to speak freely about the subject due to their shared interest of the topic, yet the conversation did not particularly hold any evidence of multimodal patterns nor multimodal grammar.

    Abstract [en]

In the spring of 2020, large parts of our society and the labor market in general changed. A new virus had been discovered in China which could be transmitted between humans. The virus was named SARS-coronavirus-2 and the official name is Covid-19. Based on the Swedish Public Health Agency's recommendations, employers urged their employees to work from home to the greatest extent possible. Conducting the daily work has in this way created new challenges for both the employer and employees. As limitations have been seen of working remotely from a managerial perspective, the purpose of this study will therefore be to investigate how managers experience working involuntary remotely, during the current pandemic, with a focus on the positive and negative effects of teleworking. The study is based on eight qualitative interviews with managers at Region Dalarna who have switched to working remotely in connection with the pandemic. The material collected from the interviews has been compared with the previous research based on established themes, which then resulted in a results analysis. The results show that working from distance is complex and that many different factors affect managers' experiences and that there are both positive and negative sides to this form of work. Efficiency is perceived to increase in teleworking at the same time as it brings with it the majority of negative effects such as an increased work pace, reduced social interaction and a lack of informal meeting arenas. The study can help to raise awareness of the positive and negative effects of telework which can be problematised and create discussion.

Pleasure i blickfånget: Den manliga och kvinnliga blicken i Ninja Thybergs film Pleasure2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Denna uppsats undersöker hur huvudkaraktären Bella Cherry framställs i fem porrinspelningsscener i filmen Pleasure (Thyberg, 2021).

Sportmarknadsföring under kris: En fallstudie om Linköping HC:s kris-sportmarknadsföring2021Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: In 2020, the world changed as a global crisis occurred, Covid-19 spread around the world (WHO, n.d.). The Covid-19 pandemic forced large parts of society to change and adapt their activities to government restrictions. In sport, this meant that supporters had to watch and interact with their teams via various types of media instead. This meant that sponsorship and networking suffered as exposure and the opportunity to communicate between business and consumer disappeared. The ever-changing climate means that sports marketing needs to find ways to be accessible to all potential customers to enable the exchange of value (Kotler et al., 2017; Ristevska Jovanovska, 2020). Elite sports clubs quickly had to adapt to this new reality.Purpose: The purpose of the study is to investigate how LHC manages the Covid-19 crisis from the marketing perspective of an elite sports club.Method: The research design applied was a case study to enable data collection and description of LHC. We applied a qualitative method in the form of semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis to gain a better understanding. We then complemented the data collection with a questionnaire to deepen the analysis.Findings: The study contributes to the understanding of how an elite sports club has been affected and changed its sports marketing in the context of the crisis. It provides lessons for how elite sports clubs implement changes and collaborate with each other to facilitate during a crisis. In the future, elite sports clubs in football, handball, and floorball, among others, will apply innovative lessons from the study.

Effects of employees’ CSR perception on behavioural and attitudinal outcomes: An empirical study on a world-leading multinational company2021Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This study aims to test the relationship between a company’s CSR approach and the effect this phenomenon has on different employees' key behavioral and attitudinal outcomes, such as performance, fellowship, loyalty, and turnover. Furthermore, it will be tested throughout this study the possible moderating and mediating role of organizational pride and organizational identification concepts, respectively. This study takes place in Uruguay.Design/methodology/approach – The research approach was an empirical study of a multinational company with its Americas finance Hub based in Uruguay, applying for this a quantitative analysis. An online questionnaire was distributed to employees of The Company´s Hub collecting 116 valid responses. After that, the data was meticulously analyzed using the structural equation modeling method.Findings – The CSR perception of employees was proven to have a positive relationship with employee’s fellowship and loyalty, as well as a negative relationship with their turnover. Moreover, organizational identification was proven to be a mediator between the perceived CSR and three out of four employee outcomes. The moderating effect of the variable Organizational Pride could not be statistically proved.Practical Implications – CSR is a topic that is discussed nowadays on almost every table. Many companies in all parts of the world are implementing responsible policies. Despite the underlying reasons, this study reveals that these actions can bring positive indirect results for companies, through the channel of their employees’ outcomes.Originality/value – This novel research, provided with a robust theoretical framework, expands the academic knowledge barrier by proposing and effectively testing the mediating role of organizational identification between the perceived CSR and the outcomes mentioned above, as well as reaffirming the relationship between these variables. In addition, the unedited results that come to light in this paper are the first in the area, targeting the Uruguayan population. This investigation is expected in the future to serve as a research trigger of the area in the sample country.

    Abstract [en]

Swedish football has a strongly rooted club culture based on non-profit involvement, amateurishideals and democracy. During a long time, however, football has largely undergone acommercialization process in which elite football is increasingly controlled as a company and theeconomy is becoming increasingly important. This has created a debate about the 50+1 rule thatprevents private investors from buying Swedish clubs. The supporters care about this rule andduring the early 10s the question of a deregulation was up in the Swedish Sports Confederationsmeeting but the supporters protested and the rule remained. The supporters' opinion on the issue is thus clear, which leads us into our purpose. We want to findout how leading organizations in Swedish football and Swedish elite football clubs view theSwedish club culture and club structure, as well as what consequences they believe exist ofretaining and removing the 50+1 rule, respectively. To conduct the study, a total of seven interviewswere conducted, with five club managers in Swedish elite football clubs and one each withrepresentatives from the Swedish Sports Confederation and Swedish Elite football. The study has given us clear answers to what opinions these respondents have about the Swedishclub culture and the 50+1 rule, but also about the Swedish football structure. The study revealscriticism of the Swedish structure and also how the pandemic has been handled and mostrespondents demands changes in the structure. The study hopes to be able to contribute as a basisfor such possible changes and we hope, to be able to increase the understanding of different actors'perspectives on highly current issues.
