    Abstract [en]

    The Swedish curriculum for secondary school education states that equality between men and women  is one of the overall values that the school system must foster, and that in the school environment nobody can be discriminated against on the grounds of gender. In addition to this, the school must actively encourage equal rights and opportunities for both men and women. The aim of this paper is to analyse how women are represented in several textbooks used in the teaching of Spanish in Swedish secondary schools, and to examine whether the curriculum directives are followed, or, to the contrary, whether gender discrimination is still found in the course books.
