Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn kak istorik i ideolog2013Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [ru]

Making of a Dream: An Animated Film Adaptation of Dostoevsky’s “The Dream of a Ridiculous Man”2019In: 51st Annual ASEEES Convention, San Francisco, November 23-26, 2019., 2019Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In this paper, I analyse Aleksandr Petrov’s animated film Son smeshnogo chelovekafrom 1992. The paper’s point of departure is Yuri Lotman’s observation that language of animation is fundamentally different from the language of the feature cinema and the documentary. Its main property is that it operates with “a sign of a sign” and “an image of an image”. Its typical features are also various kinds of disrupted spatial and temporal connections, as well as jumps and leaps between cinematic sequences, something that, I will argue, resembles the structure of a dream. The paper focuses on how some central elements of Dostoevsky’s “fantastic story” and dream narrative are interpreted cinematically, in order to pinpoint whether the animated film with its specific characteristics is particularly suitable for adapting such literary texts as Dostoevsky’s.

Novyi razum Ol'gi Sedakovoi [Ol'ga Sedakova's New Rationality]2016In: The Twentieth Congress of Nordic Slavists, Stockholm, 17-21 August, 2016., 2016Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [ru]

Poiski Rusi nevidimoj : Kitezjskaja legenda v russkoj kul’ture. 1843-19402011Doctoral thesis, monograph (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This doctoral disseration examines the legend of the invisible city of Kitezh, its development and the role that it played in Russian culture between the years 1843 and 1940. It was during this period that the original folk legend was discovered by the Russian intelligentsia and transformed into a new myth about Russia. The legend is widely known and is the subject of a large number of publications and scholarly works. However, no research had yet been undertaken that presents a holistic account, which is what this dissertation attempts to do.
