The Functionality of Conceptual Standards in the E-service Production Process,2006In: Action in Language, Organisations and Information Systems (ALOIS 2006) - Fourth International Conference, Borås, 2006Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The paper presents a case study conducted at the Swedish Road Administration (the SRA) focussing on the RDS-TMC service, a type of e-service. The implementation of the RDS-TMC service is based on two conceptual standards: the ALERT-C and Location Code standards. The main purpose of the case study has been to understand the functionality (role) of these standards by investigating how the SRA has implemented and used the standards behind the RDS-TMC service in order to provide the service.

    Abstract [en]

In order to maintain market position, one of the critical issues facing companies is how they can improve their commitment management. In this paper, the concept of commitment management is used to understand how suppliers and customers create mutual commitments in business agreements, and how these commitments are fulfilled. In a number of empirical case studies, commitment management problems have been the direct consequence of deficiencies in the infrastructural support. One example of such lacking infrastructural support are IT systems intended to support this commitment management process. This is of particular interest in a context of commitments created in parallel business transactions that compete for the same delivery capacity. The aim of the paper is to describe, analyse and propose solutions to some of these problems. This paper proposes a necessary extension to a framework for business interaction between suppliers and customers. This extension is based on business action theory, workpractice theory and ideas from yield management.

Prioriterade kriterier av redaktörer och utvecklare i ett content management system: En fallstudie om att välja content management system2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Information management on the Internet is a growing phenomenon. One way for companies and organizations to get information on the internet is through websites. For content management and webpage development, you can use the content management system. Such systems simplify information management on the website's various web pages. There are a wealth of CMS and the CMS support different features.

This study is conducted as a case study in which the case being studied are criteria for choosing CMS. Data has been collected through surveys and document studies. Criteria’s have been identified and prioritized using the MoSCoW prioritization method by editors and developers working with CMS. Priority criteria have been compiled and a selection of CMS tools has been evaluated against the criteria’s.

Based on the collected data from questionnaires, a priority scheme was drawn up. It is clear that some criteria are more important than others for editors and developers. The document study also showed that the selection of CMS evaluated met the majority of criteria.

Evaluating a model for the capacity building of midwifery eduators in Bangladesh through a blended, web-based master's programme2019In: Global Health Action, ISSN 1654-9716, E-ISSN 1654-9880, Vol. 12, no 1, article id 1652022Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background: While setting international standards for midwifery education has attracted considerable global attention, the education and training of midwifery educators has been relatively neglected, particularly in low-resource settings where capacity building is crucial. Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the expectations of midwifery educators in Bangladesh who took part in a blended web-based master's programme in SRHR and the extent to which these were realized after 12 months of part-time study. Methods: Both quantitative and qualitative methods have been used to collect data. A structured baseline questionnaire was distributed to all participants at the start of the first course (n = 30) and a second endpoint questionnaire was distributed after they (n = 29) had completed the core courses one year later. At the start of the first course, five focus group discussions (FGD) were held with the midwifery educators. Descriptive statistics and content analysis were used for the analyses. Results: Midwifery educators who took part in the study identified expectations that can be grouped into three distinct areas. They hoped to become more familiar with technology, anticipated they would learn pedagogical and other skills that would enable them to better support their students' learning and thought they might acquire skills to empower their students as human beings. Participants reported they realized these ambitions, attributing the master's programme with helping them take responsibility for their own teaching and learning, showing them how to enhance their students' learning and how to foster reflective and critical thinking among them. Conclusions: Midwifery educators have taken part in a creative learning environment which has developed their engagement in teaching and learning. They have done this using a blended learning model which combines online learning with face-to-face contact. This model can be scaled up in low resource and remote settings.

Evaluation of an online master’s programme in Somaliland. A phenomenographic study on the experience of professional and personal development among midwifery faculty2017In: Nurse Education in Practice, ISSN 1471-5953, E-ISSN 1873-5223, Vol. 25, p. 96-103Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

To record the variation of perceptions of midwifery faculty in terms of the possibilities and challenges related to the completion of their first online master's level programme in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Somaliland. The informants included in this phenomenongraphical focus group study were those well-educated professional women and men who completed the master's program. The informant perceived that this first online master's level programme provided tools for independent use of the Internet and independent searching for evidence-based information, enhanced professional development, was challenge-driven and evoked curiosity, challenged professional development, enhanced personal development and challenged context-bound career paths. Online education makes it possible for well-educated professional women to continue higher education. It furthermore increased the informants' confidence in their use of Internet, software and databases and in the use of evidence in both their teaching and their clinical practice. Programmes such as the one described in this paper could counter the difficulties ensuring best practice by having a critical mass of midwives who will be able to continually gather contemporary midwifery evidence and use it to ensure best practice. An increase of online education is suggested in South-central Somalia and in similar settings globally.

Fördelar och nackdelar med att använda automatiserat GUI-test: En beskrivande fallstudie2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Automation in the testing industry is becoming increasingly relevant, considering manual testing of software has a lot of weaknesses. This study therefore describes the advantages and disadvantages of using automated GUI tests and analyzes these based on the categories, cost, quality and time.

In order to answer the purpose and question for this study, five interviews have been conducted with an IT consulting company where testers, test leaders, managers and sales representatives have participated in the study. An extensive literature study has also been conducted to see what pros and cons of using automated GUI tests in previous research. This study shows that it is an advantage to use automated GUI testing in management but a disadvantage to use it early in a development project. It is also very clear that all the advantages and disadvantages move around three factors, such as the time, quality and cost that this study has been confined to. It also turns out that programming skills are required to enable an activity to use automated GUI testing. Proposals for further research are to further define and compare the advantages and disadvantages of using automated GUI tests in development projects and in management projects and then compare them to each other.

Upplevda problem med projektstyrningsmetoden Scrum i systemutvecklingsprojekt: En studie av Scrums-relaterade problem hos IT- företag i Borlängeregion2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

More and more people have got their eyes on different automation techniques to make it easier for customers, employees and the business. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is a rapidly evolving technology that automates repetitive and monotonous business processes that can be considered time consuming for employees.

Through a qualitative case study, opportunities, challenges and recommendations that may occur during an implementation of RPA in medium-sized businesses have been investigated, like Stora Tunabyggen AB. The collected data comes from interviews and a document study. A qualitative data analysis was carried out in which opportunities and challenges were presented. Then a SWOT analysis was carried out to find strengths and weaknesses with RPA. The SWOT analysis was then used to present recommendations for a possible implementation.

The result shows positive as well as negative effects that medium-sized businesses should be aware of when considering an implementation of RPA. A challenge with an implementation of RPA is to map and describe the processes that can be automated. A possibility is that the staff no longer have to focus on monotonous and repetitive tasks. Tunabyggen should evaluate the entire operation for an implementation of RPA to get the best possible effect from RPA. A strength with RPA is to reduced human error in the business processes of the organisation. One of the weaknesses of RPA is that there is no human control before a work process is performed.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

In this study a case study was conducted at the Transport Agency. The government agency is seeking better alternatives to its current ways of keeping track of important dates stated in legal documents. The agency wants to explore the possibility for an IT-solution for keeping track on those dates. In the case study change analysis was conducted on the vehicle type approval process. Qualitative interviews were conducted with a section manager, vehicle type and component approvers, and with a system administrator and a system manager at the Transport Agency in Borlänge. The study describes an information environment in an organization in which date-controlled conditions apply and challenges with such an environment. The study also provides a proposal for designing an IT-solution for such an environment.

The result that emerged showed that the information environment in terms of the legal documents and the institutions’ (EU and UNECE) websites where they are distributed is challenging for keeping track on dates. The challenges of the websites are that they are limited and complicated in terms of information search. The challenges with the legal documents are that date-controlled conditions apply. In other words, the dates themselves determine which dates and what applies and not. The legal documents are also many, retroactive, refer to each other and contain regulations for different kinds of areas, which makes difficult to find the relevant dates. The design proposal that emerged was made based on the existing IT environment at the Transport Agency. It was proposed that important key concepts are identified, categorized and realized in a database with searchability on the most important common concepts as denominators, and that it the information conforms with E-message. The developed database was based on date, date type, vehicle category, legal document, minor version and other info. A web interface was created in ASP.NET and C # for access to the database, with the message that a webbbased IT-solution should be considered.

RFID-teknologi på distributionscentral Som digital inleveransmetod: framgångsfaktorer vid implementering2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

An IT-controlled warehouse and order management is today common, however, the method for receiving deliveries has looked the same for a long time. You usually use bar codes / QR codes or purely manual handling with pen and paper. Radio frequency identification (RFID) enables a wireless and autonomous reading of goods that have been tagged. The technology has been aorund for a long time but has been shown to have a more positive trend in recent years, where more and more objects are being tagged. The partner in this study Fiskarhedenvillan today uses a completely manual system for deliveries of goods at their distibution center. They now want to start their digitalization of the distribution center by examining the posibility of introducing an RFID-system as a method for hondling goods at deliveries.

This study, in collaboration with Sogeti and Fiskarhedenvillan, has been carried out to identify opportunities and factors and to investigate wether an implemantation is possible. Interviews have been conducted with key personell within what has been called ”the world’s best RFID project”.

From the conclusions, a number of challenges are identified around processes of flows that must be updated to be able to take full advantage of an RFID system. Futhermore, RFID technology as a method for receiving goods rarely becomes more efficient unless the processes between flows are changed or updated, and the working methods should also be looked upon to be able to utilize the advantages of RFID. Since the possibility of gourding against an uncompleted logistics chain with a combined tag / barcode label at the same time as more and more objects are being tagged, it makes RFID systems more directly usable. Implementations are facilitated by existing proven standards. Critical factors to consider prior to implementation include environmental analysis and that implementations of RFID systems often have a great impact on the entire chain. Furthermore, opportunities are identified as previously proven systems and a positive trend for implementations in the RFID field.
