Validity of reported data in the out-of-hospital cardiac arrest register in chosen parts in Sweden2012Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Aim: To describe differences and similarities between reported and non reported data in the out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) register in Sweden.

Methods: Prospective and retrospective data of treated OHCA patients in Sweden, 2008-2010 were compared in the Swedish OHCA register. Data were investigated in 4 Swedish counties with various recording models. Prospective data are those reported by the ambulance crew and retrospective data those missed by the ambulance crew but discovered afterwards by crosschecking with the local ambulance register.

Result: In 2008-2010, the number of prospective reported cases was n=2398 and retrospective cases n=3198 which indicates a 30% missing rate.

When comparing the two groups, the mean age was higher in patients who were reported retrospectively (69 years versus 67 years; p=0.003). There was no difference between groups with regard to sex, time of day and year of OHCA, witnessed status or initial rhythm.

However, bystander CPR was more frequent among patients in who were reported prospectively (65% versus 60%; p= 0.023) where as survival to 1 month was higher among patients who were reported retrospectively (9,2% versus 11,9%;p=0.035)

Conclusion: Among 3198 cases of OHCA in 4 regions in Sweden 800 (30%) were not reported prospectively by the ambulance crew but retrospectively when discovered as missing cases. Patients who were reported retrospectively differed from prospectively reported cases by being older, less frequently receiving bystander CPR but having a higher survival. Our data suggest that patients who suffer OHCA and are prospectively reported to a quality register may be influenced by selection bias.

Improvements in logistics could increase survival after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in Sweden2013In: Journal of Internal Medicine, ISSN 0954-6820, E-ISSN 1365-2796, Vol. 273, no 6, p. 622-627Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Objectives. In a review based on estimations and assumptions, to report the estimated number of survivors after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) in whom cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was started and to speculate about possible future improvements in Sweden.

Design. An observational study. Setting All ambulance organisations in Sweden. Subjects Patients included in the Swedish Cardiac Arrest Registry who suffered an OHCA between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2010. Approximately 80% of OHCA cases in Sweden in which CPR was started are included. Interventions None

Results. In 11005 patients, the 1-month survival rate was 9.4%. There are approximately 5000 OHCA cases annually in which CPR is started and 30-day survival is achieved in up to 500 patients yearly (6 per 100000 inhabitants). Based on findings on survival in relation to the time to calling for the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) and the start of CPR and defibrillation, it was estimated that, if the delay from collapse to (i) calling EMS, (ii) the start of CPR, and (iii) the time to defibrillation were reduced to <2min, <2min, and <8min, respectively, 300400 additional lives could be saved.

Conclusion. Based on findings relating to the delay to calling for the EMS and the start of CPR and defibrillation, we speculate that 300400 additional OHCA patients yearly (4 per 100000 inhabitants) could be saved in Sweden.

Education in cardiopulmonary resuscitation in Sweden and its clinical consequences2010In: Resuscitation, ISSN 0300-9572, E-ISSN 1873-1570, Vol. 81, no 2, p. 211-216Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Aim: To describe the use of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training programmes in Sweden for 25 years and relate those to changes in the percentage of patients with out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) who receive bystander CPR.

Methods: Information was gathered from (a) the Swedish CPR training registry established in 1983 and includes most Swedish education programmes in CPR and (b) the Swedish Cardiac Arrest Register (SCAR) established in 1990 and currently covers about 70% of ambulance districts in Sweden.

Results: CPR education in Sweden functions according to a cascade principle (instructor-trainers who train instructors who then train rescuers in CPR). Since 1989, 5000 instructor-trainers have taught more than 50,000 instructors who have taught nearly 2 million of Sweden's 9 million inhabitants adult CPR. This is equivalent to one new rescuer per 100 inhabitants every year in Sweden. In addition, since 1989, there are 51,000 new rescuers in Advanced Life Support (ALS), since 1996, 41,000 new Basic Life Support (BLS) rescuers with Automated External Defibrillation (AED) training, and since 1998, there are 93,000 new rescuers in child CPR. As a result of this CPR training the number of bystander CPR attempts for OHCA in Sweden increased from 31% in 1992 to 55% in 2007.

Conclusion: By using a cascade principle for CPR education nearly 2 million rescuers were educated in Sweden (9 million inhabitants) between 1989 and 2007. This resulted in a marked increase in bystander CPR attempts. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved.

Association between population density and reported incidence, characteristics and outcome after out–of–hospital cardiac arrest in Sweden2011In: Resuscitation, ISSN 0300-9572, E-ISSN 1873-1570, Vol. 82, no 10Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Aim. To describe the reported incidence of out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and the characteristics and outcome after OHCA in relation to population density in Sweden. Methods All patients participating in the Swedish Cardiac Arrest Register between 2008 and 2009 in (a) 20 of 21 regions (n = 6457) and in (b) 165 of 292 municipalities (n = 3522) in Sweden, took part in the survey.

Results. The regional population density varied between 3 and 310 inhabitants per km2 in 2009. In 2008–2009, the number of reported cardiac arrests varied between 13 and 52 per 100,000 inhabitants and year. Survival to 1 month varied between 2% and 14% during the same period in different regions. With regard to population density, based on municipalities, bystander CPR (p = 0.04) as well as cardiac etiology (p = 0.002) were more frequent in less populated areas. Ambulance response time was longer in less populated areas (p < 0.0001). There was no significant association between population density and survival to 1 month after OHCA or incidence (adjusted for age and gender) of OHCA.

Conclusion. There was no significant association between population density and survival to 1 month after OHCA or incidence (adjusted for age and gender) of OHCA. However, bystander CPR, cardiac etiology and longer response times were more frequent in less populated areas.

Improved outcome in Sweden after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and possible association with improvements in every link in the chain of survival2015In: European Heart Journal, ISSN 0195-668X, E-ISSN 1522-9645, Vol. 36, no 14, p. 863-871Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Aims: To describe out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) in Sweden from a long-term perspective in terms of changes in outcome and circumstances at resuscitation.

Methods and results: All cases of OHCA (n = 59 926) reported to the Swedish Cardiac Arrest Register from 1992 to 2011 were included. The number of cases reported (n/100 000 person-years) increased from 27 (1992) to 52 (2011). Crew-witnessed cases, cardiopulmonary resuscitation prior to the arrival of the emergency medical service (EMS), and EMS response time increased (P < 0.0001). There was a decrease in the delay from collapse to calling for the EMS in all patients and from collapse to defibrillation among patients found in ventricular fibrillation (P< 0.0001). The proportion of patients found in ventricular fibrillation decreased from 35 to 25% (P < 0.0001). Thirty-day survival increased from 4.8 (1992) to 10.7% (2011) (P < 0.0001), particularly among patients found in a shockable rhythm and patients with return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) at hospital admission. Among patients hospitalized with ROSC in 2008–2011, 41% underwent therapeutic hypothermia and 28% underwent percutaneous coronary intervention. Among 30-day survivors in 2008–2011, 94% had a cerebral performance category score of 1 or 2 at discharge from hospital and the results were even better if patients were found in a shockable rhythm.

Conclusion: From a long-term perspective, 30-day survival after OHCA in Sweden more than doubled. The increase in survival was most marked among patients found in a shockable rhythm and those hospitalized with ROSC. There were improvements in all four links in the chain of survival, which might explain the improved outcome.

Kundtillfredsställelse på Bromma tryck AB2004Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

The prospects for businesses in the printing industry have radically changed over the last few years as a result of globalisation and developments in computer technology. Having competed with the production of graphic products, companies now find themselves competing with the whole media field of alternative solutions. The over-capacity in the printing market has led to an increased competitive situation and a greater price consciousness. In today’s competitive printing industry, it is the companies whose products and services concerning price and quality most satisfy their customer’s needs, that are the most successful ones. The ability to understand and realise the needs of the customer is of utmost importance for the success of the company. To be able to draw correct conclusions concerning customers it is essential to have as deep a knowledge of the customer as possible. This report is based on a customer survey of 20 of Bromma tryck’s most prominent customers. At the same time, supplementary interviews among employees at different departments were carried out to get a greater insight into Bromma tryck’s quality work. The conclusions from this report are that company’s Achilles heel is their price level. If Bromma tryck could lower their prices the number of new customers would increase and their present customers would use the company even more. The report also points out that the greatest positive aspect of customer service lies in the field of digital printing, addressing, enveloping and shop material.

Sports and mediatization: a case of women´s ski-jumping2011Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Ski jumping was the only sport included in the Winter Olympics, where women were not allowed to take part until the first week of April 2011, when IOC decided to let them in to the Olympic family, a major victory for women´s ski-jumping. Since 2004 the Norwegian media had women ski jumping as one important topic in their media coverage. The third of March 2010 the new Holmenkollen ski-jumping hill was inaugurated. It had been rebuilt for the World Championships 2011. The first jump on the hill was surrounded by an intense debate. Annette Sagen was decided to be the first jumper on the hill after a poll on the social media channel Facebook that gave Annette Sagen over 40 000 votes.  However Tuesday the second of March Björn Einar Romören, a world cup jumper, did the first jump during a training session. This act started a significant chain of events. The biggest Norwegian web – magazines Verldens Gang and Aftenposten made this the head story and they invited the readers to interaction. Within 24 hours 11 000 comments were written, most of them in favor of Sagen and against Romören´s behavior. The Norwegian Ski Association excluded Romören from two World Cup competitions. What did happen during these days in the media?  I want to present the activities, which went on in two web-magazines, and analyze the articles written on the topic. Main issues are to show what an impact a social media network had on the sport in this specific case and how different actors appeared in the media and discuss if Romörens exclusion was a result of the mediatization.

Violent behaviour by general psychiatric patients in Sweden - validation of Classification of Violence Risk (COVR) software.2011In: Psychiatry Research, ISSN 0165-1781, E-ISSN 1872-7123, Vol. 188, no 1, p. 161-5Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The objectives of the study are to report the 20-week base rate of violent behaviour in the community among a general psychiatric patient population from Stockholm and to establish the validity of a violence risk assessment software program, Classification of Violence Risk (COVR), in a European setting. Three hundred and thirty one patients at two psychiatric hospitals in Stockholm were interviewed upon discharge. Telephone interviews with the patients and collaterals were conducted 10 and 20 weeks later. The violent behaviour was also measured through a national criminal register. The allocation of patients into different risk groups according to COVR software was compared with the occurrence of actual acts of violence during the follow-up. The base rate of violent behaviour was 5.7% and a ROC-analysis showed that the AUC for COVR was 0.77. Since there were few patients in the high risk groups, the 95% confidence interval for the proportion of violent patients was wide. The base rate of violent behaviour is relatively low in Sweden and prediction is therefore difficult. The predictive validity of COVR software is comparable to other risk assessment tools.

Homicide offenders 32 years later: a Swedish population-based study on recidivism2014In: CBMH. Criminal behaviour and mental health, ISSN 0957-9664, E-ISSN 1471-2857, Vol. 24, no 1, p. 5-17Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background: The literature on recidivism by homicide offenders is scarce despite its importance for individuals and for society.

Aims: To establish the rate of seriously violent re-offending among homicide offenders and identify risk factors for such recidivism.

Methods: A 1970s incident cohort of all homicide offenders, sane and insane, from two regions of Sweden (N=153) was followed up until 2007 using data from the national crime register.

Results: Ten per cent of the cohort (n=15) re-offended. The mean time from index offence to recidivism was 9.4 years. Five people (3%) committed a further homicide, and it was established that another five (3%) offenders had killed before the index offence. Prospective risk factors for violent recidivism were young age, psychotic disorder, male victim, acquainted victim and intoxicated victim.

Conclusions: The prevalence of repeated homicide is higher than previously reported. Victim variables and mental disorder in conjunction with substance abuse appear to be two domains of particular significance for recidivism.

Psychosis and homicide in Sweden: a time trend analysis 1987-20062014In: International Journal of Forensic Mental Health, ISSN 1499-9013, E-ISSN 1932-9903, Vol. 13, no 1, p. 1-7Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Few studies have examined temporal changes in the contribution of psychosis to homicide offending. This research examines whether the incidence and the proportion of people with schizophrenia spectrum disorders, compared to all homicide offenders, have changed over a 20-year period in Sweden. All homicide offenders in Sweden from 1987 through 2006 were identified in the National Register for Criminal Convictions and linked on an individual level to the Central Archive of the National Board of Forensic Medicine, where data concerning individuals subjected to a forensic psychiatric examination in Sweden are registered. Offenders with a diagnosis of a schizophrenia spectrum disorder (F20-F29) formed the subgroup of offenders with psychosis. While the overall incidence of homicide did not change over time, both the incidence and the proportion of offenders with schizophrenia spectrum disorders decreased somewhat in relation to all homicide offenders. Although offenders with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder still comprise a disproportionately large share of all homicide offenders, their contribution to the overall incidence of homicide is at least not increasing in Sweden. Yet, it remains a significant problem that needs to be addressed by clinicians and researchers.

Hur fem pedagoger beskriver barns inflytande i valet av litteratur i förskolan: En diskursanalytisk intervjustudie2015Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Variation in birch colours depend on species, position in tree, origin and the storage period. White birch is darker than hairy birch but with a lively structure and shine. During vegetation period timber storage exceeding one month should be avoided. Air circulation, protection from rain and direct sunlight are essential for yard drying. Freshness of stickers used for stacking is important to avoid water marks on wood surface.

Aspects of Liminality in Eilis Ni Dhuibhne's The Dancers Dancing2004Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [en]

In this essay I refer Eilis Ni Dhuibhne’s narrative construction of the main characters and the theme of the novel The Dancers Dancing, in the context of the anthropologist Victor Turner’s concept of liminality. Thus the summer in the Gaeltacht that five teenage girls experience, can be understood as a depiction of the liminal phase in a rite of passage. Ni Dhuibhne’s differently constructed characters enlighten different aspects of liminality and through the céilí dance their experiences are exposed. Furthermore this essay suggests that Julia Kristeva’s notion of the chora, which can be associated to dance, is also relevant when describing the unbounded and unlimited process that radically can reform social structures. I conclude that the liminal space offers an area of many possibilities. It functions as a free zone where the main characters can freely explore their personal issues that trouble them, or the difficulties of their own society.

Interkulturellt synsätt i konflikt med konstruktionen av "De andra": En textanalys av läroböcker i engelska för gymnasiet utgivna i Sverige under åren 1995-20032005Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The results from the international surveys PISA 2011 and PIRLS 2011 shows that Swedish students have been deteriorating in reading comprehension. The main purpose of this literature study was to do a research review over different methods that intend to increase students’ reading comprehension by including students’ background knowledge. The method that is applied is a systematic literature study. The result of the study shows two bigger specializations of teaching methodics within reading comprehension, strategy oriented, and contextual teaching methods. The difference between these methods is hardly worth mentioning, but the contextual method is proven to be more efficient. Despite this the strategy oriented teaching method is to a great extent more researched. The result also shows that a new orientation within the research of reading comprehension is growing, where the focus is on the teachers’ knowledge and competence, instead of on teaching methods. A conclusion of the study is that all teaching methods that have been presented in the study develop the students’ reading comprehension in an effective way. It is also shown that the teacher has a big responsibility for the development within students’ reading comprehension.

Undervisningsmetoder inom läsförståelse i teori och praktik.: Sex lärares uppfattningar och konkreta arbete gällande undervisningen inom läsförståelse i årskurs 1-3.2016Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

OHRQoL, oral-health/care, eating and swallowing among elderly people in short-term accommodations in Sweden2015Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

It has been shown that poor oral health, lack of oral care, dysphagia and malnutrition are common among elderly persons living in special accommodations. All these factors are inter-related and have important impact on quality of life. Aims: The aims of the present study were to (1) describe oral health and oral health related quality of  life (OHRQoL) as well as  the prevalence of dysphagia and eating difficulties among elderly people in short-term accommodations (2) describe perceived care quality related to oral health and eating, (3) evaluate a training program for dysphagia. Methods: In four Swedish counties 320 patients in 30 short-term accommodations were studied by specially trained dental hygienists (RDH), after giving informed consent. Ethical approval has been given. Instruments measuring OHRQoL, oral health, perception of care quality, swallowing capacity and eating ability (OHIP-14, ROAG, QPP, SCT, MEONF-II, SWAL-QoL) were used. Patients with dysphagia were either invited to a 5 weeks training program using an oral screen, IQoro®, or to a control group (40 in each group), comprising follow-up at 5 weeks and 6 months. Results: Data collection is still ongoing for the 6-month follow-up. Preliminary results shows that mean age for the 320 patients was 82 years, 180 women (57%). 294 (91%) were native Swedes and 24 (8%) came from another European country. Physical condition was perceived good or fairly good by 155 (48%) participants, oral health was perceived good or fairly good by 212 (66%), oral hygiene was assessed by RDH as being poor for 156 (49%). 87 (27%) had swollen and bleeding gums, 53 (17%) had red and blistered oral mucosa. 210 (66%) participants perceived that they were given the support they needed at mealtimes but only 68 (22%) received support with daily oral care. Clinical signs of  nutritional risk was identified in 80 (25%) participants and 167 (54%) had a swallowing capacity less than 10 ml/sec. Mean value for OHRQoL measured by OHIP-14 was 7.66, no gender differences were observed. Having dysphagia affected OHRQoL to the worse, p<0.00. Conclusion: There was a discrepancy between participant’s perceptions and the assessments made by RDH, with the latter showing worse results. While being in a state of dependency almost half of the participants perceived their physical condition as good or fairly good and the same applies with regard to oral health. Although half of the study group had poor oral hygiene, the majority managed their oral hygiene by themselves.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Bornholmsmodellen: En metod för skrivutveckling i förskoleklass2015Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Skrivutveckling i förskoleklass2015Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Food Labelling Systems: Design and evaluation of what type of food products should be labelled and how2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

It might seem like an impossible task these days to find a food product without

any unwanted additives or ingredients. Food packaging tends not to highlight

these ingredients and the consumer must spend a lot of time reading and

comparing the often poorly presented lists of ingredients and nutritional values.

Food labelling systems are intended to minimise this unnecessary

    inconvenience for the consumers.

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate a number of current food labelling

systems and propose new alternative designs for the people of Auckland, New

    Zealand.

The results show that the Aucklanders are in favour of a more comprehensible

food labelling system. More than half of the questionnaire respondents (n=161)

preferred a particularly visual and colourful design inspired by a traffic light

system, however, other proposed designs proved to be popular as well. This

shows how complex it can be to design a food labelling system that can cater

for people’s individual preferences in such a broad target group, i.e. the food

consumers. Based on the collected data, which in essence is the opinions and

attitudes of the food consumer group, there is a clear desire for greater

transparency and duty of care from the food producers.

    Abstract [en]

In this study, we try to discover and analyze the teachers' attitudes towards incorporating the set phrases while teaching Spanish in the advanced level, for example phrases about nationalities and ethnic groups. In addition, we attempt to measure teachers' perspectives towards teaching ethically incorrect phrasal expressions in the classroom. In particular, we focus on the role of the socio-cultural aspect in the learning process of a foreign language.

Based on our study, the teachers' perspectives on incorporating those set phrases while teaching Spanish in the advanced level are very positive. Our informants have recognized that the phrases are very common in the Spanish language. In addition, the cultural and historic contents reveal a lot about both the past and the reality of Spain to this day. Almost all informants (except one) have confirmed that they could work with the ethically incorrect phrases in their classes. The phrasal expressions of this type are also commonly used in the Spanish language, so the opinion of our informants is that the best option is to explain them to students and discuss the prejudices they represent in the classroom. Regarding the socio-cultural aspect, the informants agree that it is very important in the process of learning a foreign language because it helps to understand the demeanor of the people from a different culture and facilitates the use of the target language in a suitable context.

Pragmatic Analysis of Emoticons in Facebook Chats: Communicative Functions of Emoticons in Asynchronous Chat2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This study has investigated the pragmatic role of emoticons in Facebook chats. Data has been collected from Facebook profile pages after taking permission from their owners. A qualitative analysis has been done. Speech act theory has been used in order to interpret the data. The study shows that emoticons are used as emotion markers by the speakers. In addition, emoticons help to create rapport and social intimacy as nonverbal cues do in the real world. Although sometimes emoticons may create ambiguity, mostly they reduce ambiguity from sarcastic and ironic messages. This study is small and therefore research needs to be done in order to find out the whole pragmatic range of emoticons; for example, interviews can be carried out to find out speakers' reasons for using emoticons and how they help for better interpretation.

Speak Good English Movement in Singapore: Reactions in Social and Traditional Media2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [en]

The first Speak Good English Movement, SGEM, took place in 2000, and has been organized annually ever since. Speaking a “standard” form of English is considered to bring increased personal power. However, the SGEM wants the Singaporeans to use “standard” English in their private life as well. A decade after the beginning of the campaign, a Speak Good Singlish Movement was started. Based on studies of language and identity, it is understandable why some Singaporeans might feel the SGEM threatens their identity. However, the reactions towards the campaign are mainly positive. For the purposes of this analysis, Twitter messages, Facebook pages, and newspaper articles from The Straits Times were collected. The SGEM has hailed both direct and indirect praise and criticism in both social and traditional media: Five newspaper articles praise the campaign while five criticize it; the results are nine and seven respectively for social media. This thesis looks at reactions towards the SGEM in both social and traditional media, analyzes how these reactions might relate to the ideas of the power of language, its variety and the relation of language and identity.

Maktdelning i Irak: en studie av hur etnisk och religiös splittring har hanterats institutionellt2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Gender Equality a case study of Sweden: Gender Equality Gender Equity and policies of combating inequality at workplace to make the society equal.2010Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years))Student thesis
    Abstract [en]

The paper analyses Gender Equality, Gender Equity and policies of combating inequality at workplace to make the society equal as a case study of Sweden. The aim of paper is see the gender equality, gender equity, discrimination against women at workplace and to describe the policies combating inequality in the welfare state of Sweden. This work highlights the gender equality in terms of institutionalizing gender equality, gender equity, gender and pay gap, parental leave, gender and the pension system and sexual behavior directed towards women and policies combating inequality to bring equality in society. For my research I used the secondary data the fact sheets, scientific literature, statistics from eurostate of Sweden and case studies about Swedish society and the theoretical explanation to explain the phenomena. To achieve my aim I used the combination of both qualitative and quantitative methods of research. I showed the empirical evidences of these phenomena from the Swedish society and theoretical analysis about equality and equity of gender in different wakes of life. I found an interesting conclusion that there are good policies and legislation to combat inequality to bring society but there are no policies to change the perception of society about male and female role.

    Abstract [en]

Sanke is a new company which, through its website will sell products produced in northern and western Africa. Competition between companies createsendless choices for customers, which becomes a problem for the companies that want to reach their customers through the media noise. Therefore, the goal of this project was to provide Sanke a consistent graphical look to increase awareness and recognition of the company and its brand. This was done by designing a visual identity that reflects the company's core values. The company's core values wereestablished through an interview with Sanke. The core values were then used to create nine different proposals for visual identities that the target group through a web survey provided feedback on.

The result of the target group’s feedback became Sanke’s visual identity. The visual identity contained a logotype, colours and typefaces as well as guidelines for handling the elements and their interactions. It was concluded that the fact that the core values and colour connotations may have different meanings for different individuals may have complicated the assessment of the proposals. But the target group had in a sense, a common understanding.

    Abstract [sv]

How does the healthcare system affect medication self-management among older adults with multimorbidity?2016In: Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences, ISSN 0283-9318, E-ISSN 1471-6712, Vol. 30, no 1, p. 91-98Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Individuals with multimorbidity commonly have several concurrent prescriptions and experience healthcare obstacles related to managing different diagnoses and medications. This study aimed to provide a deeper understanding of how older adults with multimorbidity experience medication self-management and how this is affected by the healthcare system. The National Board of Research Ethics approved the study, and 20 older adults with multimorbidity participated in in-depth interviews that were analysed using a hermeneutic approach. Three levels of interpretation emerged. At the first level, lack of participation in healthcare communication hinders adherence and safety, and feeling abandoned to self-care leads to health risk-taking. At the second level, the healthcare organisation is seen as an obstacle to medication self-management. The overall interpretation was a system of repairing ‘parts’ but not enabling the experience of health. This study shows that the healthcare system is able to treat and relieve an individual's symptoms, but seems unable to help them achieve and promote good health, or to provide the support they need to function in everyday life.

A reason to believe: beliefs as an influence on students task solving2008Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Upper secondary students’ task solving reasoning was analysed, with a focus on what grounds they had for different strategy choices and conclusions. Beliefs were identified and connected with the reasoning that took place. The results indicate that beliefs have an impact on the central decisions made during task solving. Three themes stand out: safety, expectation and motivation.

‘Boys press all the buttons and hope it will help’: Upper secondary school teachers’ gendered conceptions about students’ mathematical reasoning2016In: International Journal of Science and Mathematics Education, ISSN 1571-0068, E-ISSN 1573-1774, Vol. 14, no 8, p. 1535-1552Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Previous results show that Swedish upper secondary school teachers attribute gender to cases describing different types of mathematical reasoning. The purpose of this study was to investigate how these teachers gender stereotype aspects of students’ mathematical reasoning by studying the symbols that were attributed to boys and girls, respectively, in a written questionnaire. The results from the content analysis showed that girls were attributed gender symbols including insecurity, use of standard methods and imitative reasoning, and boys were assigned symbols such as multiple strategies especially on the calculator, guessing and chance-taking.

Four female mathematicians’ collective narrative: reasons to leave academia2014In: Philosophy of Mathematics Education Journal, ISSN 1465-2978, E-ISSN 1465-2978, no 28Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In this paper, I explore four Swedish female mathematicians arguments for why they decided not to work in academia after finishing their PhD. These stories were merged into one narrative, the fictive voice of Sarah. Her story describes life as a female PhD student in a mathematics department as a positive experience. The two main reasons to why she decided not to stay at the university were (1) the difficulty of getting a job, and (2) her wanting to work with applications and problem solving instead of working with the development of theories.

Investigating upper secondary school teachers’ conceptions: is mathematical reasoning considered gendered?2016In: International Journal of Science and Mathematics Education, ISSN 1571-0068, E-ISSN 1573-1774, Vol. 14, no s2, p. 347-362Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This study examines Swedish upper secondary school teachers’ gendered conceptions about students’ mathematical reasoning: whether reasoning was considered gendered and, if so, which type of reasoning was attributed to girls and boys. The sample consisted of 62 teachers from six different schools from four different locations in Sweden. The results showed that boys were significantly more often attributed to memorised reasoning and delimiting algorithmic reasoning. Girls were connected to gamiliar algorithmic reasoning, a reasoning type where you use standard method when solving a mathematical task. Creative mathematical founded reasoning, which is novel, plausible and founded in mathematical properties, was not considered gendered.
