    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

E-health (or e-healthcare) aims at applying modern information and telecommunication technologies in the healthcare sector. Recently, more and more research attention has been paid to this area, from clinic data analysis to patient record management. If we say the e-health has been mainly dealing with patient data analysis and various disease diagnosis at its early time, nowadays various data sources, such as social network, physician and patients’ blogs, and various monitoring data (like sensors attached to PD patients at home) are widely used for aid of better disease diagnosis through gathering richer experts’ knowledge and expertise, richer data (from patients, diseases, diagnosis, medical experiments, etc.) for analysis, and quicker (or better timely) access to various resources (e.g. telemedicine) pervasively.

Collaborative Filtering with Data Classification: A Combined Approach to Hotel Recommendation Systems2016In: 25th International Conference on Information Systems Development (ISD2016 Poland), 2016Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Recommendation systems aim to help users make decisions more efficiently. The most widely used method in recommendation systems is collaborative filtering, of which, a critical step is to analyze a user's preferences and make recommendations of products or services based on similarity analysis with other users' ratings. However, collaborative filtering is less usable for recommendation facing the "cold start" problem, i.e. few comments being given to products or services. To tackle this problem, we propose an improved method that combines collaborative filtering and data classification. We use hotel recommendation data to test the proposed method. The accuracy of the recommendation is determined by the rankings. Evaluations regarding the accuracies of Top-3 and Top-10 recommendation lists using the 10-fold cross-validation method and ROC curves are conducted. The results show that the Top-3 hotel recommendation list proposed by the combined method has the superiority of the recommendation performance than the Top-10 list under the cold start condition in most of the times.

A structural analysis of SLAs and dependencies using conceptual modelling approach2013In: Proceedings of the international conference COMPSAC 2013-Workshop on Service Sciences & Systems (SSS), IEEE CS Press , 2013, p. 439-444Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Making good use of Service Level Agreements (SLA) becomes crucial for an enterprise both to provide value added products and services to customers and to protect the interest of parties involved in the business activities. Well formed and effective structural representation and management of SLAs in conceptual modeling can greatly support the understanding and communication of service development and deployment as well as maintenance of quality of service. Existing specifications and structures for SLAs do not fully formalize and support for different automatic and dynamic behavioral aspects needed within business enterprises due to lack of study focusing on SLAs templates and their contents, which are mostly written on Natural Language (NL). We address the issues of how to use conceptual models to describe the structures of SLAs and the various relationships between SLAs and their items, and hence to better depict business domains. With focus on the contents, process, and dependencies among SLAs, we aim to use so generated concept model for service discovery, service delivery and scheduling.

A computational model for trust-based collaborative filtering: an empirical study of hotel recommendations2013In: Web Information Systems Engineering - WISE 2013: 14th International Conference, Nanjing, China, October 13-15, 2013, Proceedings, Part II / [ed] Lin, X., Manolopoulos, Y., Srivastava, D., Huang, G., 2013, Vol. 8182, p. 266-279Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The inherent weakness of the data on user ratings collected from the web, such as sparsity and cold-start, has limited the data analysis capability and prediction accuracy. To alleviate this problem, trust is incorporated in the CF approaches with encouraging experimental results. In this paper, we propose a computational model for trust-based CF with a method to generate and propagate trust in a social network. We apply this method to measure trusts on users’ ratings of hotels and show its feasibility by comparing the testing results with the traditional CF methods, e.g. Mean Absolute Error.

    Abstract [en]

Semantic analysis is an important part of natural language processing, and it has a broadly application in the network information processing. This paper presents a semantic analysis framework based on the directed weighted graph. The paper uses a directed weighted graph for semantic classification. The methodology takes the information semantic analysis as the goal in network-oriented approach, particularly in E-commerce user reviews. It looks the formal semantics lexical as semantic body and denoted by nodes. It uses links to represent relationship between the nodes and calculated by weights. Directed links are used to connect to each other in nodes, which semantic vocabulary is interrelated between nodes. Then a directed weighted graph is constructed by semantic nodes and their interrelationships relations. The experimental results and analysis show that the proposed method in the paper can classify the semantics into different classification according to the path length threshold requirement.

Community-based message opportunistic transmission2016In: Transforming Healthcare Through Information Systems: Proceedings of the 24th International Conference on Information Systems Development, 2016, Vol. 17, p. 79-93Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Mobile Social Networks (MSNs) is a kind of opportunistic networks, which is composed of a large number of mobile nodes with social characteristic. Up to now, the prevalent communitybased routing algorithms mostly select the most optimal social characteristic node to forward messages. But they almost don't consider the effect of community distribution on mobile nodes and the time-varying characteristic of network. These algorithms usually result in high consumption of network resources and low successful delivery ratio if they are used directly in mobile social networks. We build a time-varying community-based network model, and propose a community-aware message opportunistic transmission algorithm (CMOT) in this paper. For inter-community messages transmission, the CMOT chooses an optimal community path by comparing the community transmission probability. For intra-community in local community, messages are forwarded according to the encounter probability between nodes. The simulation results show that the CMOT improves the message successful delivery ratio and reduces network overhead obviously, compared with classical routing algorithms, such as PRoPHET, MaxProp, Spray and Wait, and CMTS.

LDA-TM: A two-step approach to twitter topic data clustering2016In: Proceedings of the 2016 IEEE International Conference on Cloud Computing and Big Data Analysis, IEEE conference proceedings, 2016, p. 342-347Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The Twitter System is the biggest social network in the world, and everyday millions of tweets are posted and talked about, expressing various views and opinions. A large variety of research activities have been conducted to study how the opinions can be clustered and analyzed, so that some tendencies can be uncovered. Due to the inherent weaknesses of the tweets - very short texts and very informal styles of writing - it is rather hard to make an investigation of tweet data analysis giving results with good performance and accuracy. In this paper, we intend to attack the problem from another aspect - using a two-layer structure to analyze the twitter data: LDA with topic map modelling. The experimental results demonstrate that this approach shows a progress in twitter data analysis. However, more experiments with this method are expected in order to ensure that the accurate analytic results can be maintained.

    Abstract [sv]

Pitirim Sorokin: Suicide as a societal phenomenon

Sorokin’s early work on suicide, published 1913, is heavily influenced by Durkheim. However, already at this stage the great sociologist-in-making is evident. There are important differences between Sorokin’s way of discussing the causes of suicide and that of Durkheim. In particular, Sorokin is aware of the specific features of Russia, including acute poverty, misery and hunger as well as social disruption. He suggests that those are important mechanisms in the suicide crisis of early 20th century Russia.

High second-language proficiency protects against the effects of reverberation on listening comprehension2014In: Scandinavian Journal of Psychology, ISSN 0036-5564, E-ISSN 1467-9450, Vol. 55, no 2, p. 91-96Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this experiment was to investigate whether classroom reverberation influences second-language (L2) listening comprehension. Moreover, we investigated whether individual differences in baseline L2 proficiency and in working memory capacity (WMC) modulate the effect of reverberation time on L2 listening comprehension. The results showed that L2 listening comprehension decreased as reverberation time increased. Participants with higher baseline L2 proficiency were less susceptible to this effect. WMC was also related to the effect of reverberation (although just barely significant), but the effect of WMC was eliminated when baseline L2 proficiency was statistically controlled. Taken together, the results suggest that top-down cognitive capabilities support listening in adverse conditions. Potential implications for the Swedish national tests in English are discussed.

Entre el relato y la realidad: A sangre y fuego: la historia contada a través del relato2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [es]

    Abstract [en]

This memoir aims to highlight the origin of the dissatisfaction of Emma Bovary and the reason why Flaubert chose this unsatisfied character. For this we have based our research on the socio-historical and psychological context of Emma Bovary to determine the origin of this feeling. We try to highlight the condition of women in the nineteenth century to see how their condition in the nineteenth century played a role in this situation. We analyse the character of madame Bovary: her education, her dreams and her marriage with Charles. It is a question of showing if the education and the entourage of this woman have an influence on her capricious personality by which she always tries to satisfy her body and her soul. A biographical approach of the author is necessary to demonstrate the probable reasons which pushed Flaubert to choose the unsatisfied character of his heroine.

    Abstract [en]

Objective. To define the optimal glomerular filtration rate (GFR) cut off for discriminating the risk of myocardial infarction or cardiovascular death.

Design. Prospective longitudinal observational study. Setting. A community-based cohort.

Participants. A total of 2176 nondiabetic 50-year-old men without cardiovascular disease.

Methods. The men were followed until age 70. GFR was estimated at baseline using the Cockcroft-Gault formula. The optimal GFR cut-off points for discriminating risk of a fatal or nonfatal myocardial infarction and cardiovascular death were defined as the GFR levels maximizing integrated discrimination improvement (IDI).

Main outcome measures. Fatal or nonfatal myocardial infarction, cardiovascular death.

Results. During follow-up, 264 men experienced a fatal or nonfatal myocardial infarction, and 218 died of cardiovascular disease. The IDI-defined optimal GFR cut offs in this study were 98 mL min-1 for discriminating myocardial infarction risk and 92 mL min-1 for discriminating risk of cardiovascular death. In Cox proportional hazard models adjusting for established risk factors, the myocardial infarction risk was substantially higher in men with GFR below versus above 98 mL min-1 [hazard ratio (HR) 1.7, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.3-2.3, P < 0.001], and the risk of cardiovascular death was doubled in men with GFR below versus above 92 mL min-1 (HR 2.1, 95% CI 1.5-3.0, P < 0.001).

Conclusion. The GFR cut-off point for optimal discrimination of cardiovascular risk in the general population may be higher than previously suggested.

Stagnation, sammanbrott och social nyordning - rötterna till den ryska folkhälsokrisen2000In: Sociologisk forskning, ISSN 0038-0342, Vol. 37, no 1, p. 127-149Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Stagnation, break-down and a new social order - the roots of the Russian public health crisis

Long term trends of deteriorating health status in Soviet Union and Eastern Europe during the last two decades of communism were followed by a new crisis in health, after the collapse of its social system. In contrast, the perestroika period coincided with strongly improved public health. Explanations for the latest Russian health crisis are discussed. It is concluded that explanations based on poor medical care, excessive alcohol consumption or nutrional deprivation are, at best, insufficient. The collapse of the social system itself has lead to a narrowing of individual and collective decision latitudes; we speculate that historical factors, such as vulnerability of specific birth cohorts or segments of the population, may be part of the unexpected and very steep rise of mortality during the first half of the 1990s.

Framgångsrik matematikundervisning i grundskolan: Undervisning som genererar hög måluppfyllelse av läroplanens och kursplanens mål2011Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years))Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]
