Historiedidaktiska perspektiv på datorspel och datorspelsmodifieringar.2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

En modern tro?: En fallstudie om allmänhetens religiositet under efterkrigstidens Sverige2023Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Several theories have been used to capture the trend of a general decline in religiosity in Western Europe. The main assumption in most of these theories is that religiosity amongst the public has shifted towards a more private and individual form of belief that refrains from the traditional church-based belief. Contemporary Sweden is often singled out as a country where the secularization process has gone particularly far. The earliest results indicating a decline in church-oriented religiosity in Sweden goes back to 1955. The aim of this study is to investigate the Swedish public's religiosity and attitude towards the Church of Sweden's attempts at religious profiling in the early post-war period. The empirical data consists of a public opinion poll concerning the state-church and Christianity that was carried out in 1948. The result of the study indicates that only a minority of the Swedish public at the time subscribed to a church-based religiosity. Religion was increasingly seen as a private matter, a trend that becomes even clearer if one considers how the Swedes who participated in the opinion poll related to the Church of Sweden’s attempts to clarify its core beliefs.

Understödstagare inom fattigvården i Falu stad mellan åren 1867–1872: Vilka var dom och vilket stöd fick de?2024Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Within the essay´s timeframe, Sweden had three years of starvation, large emigration to America and a new Poor Welfare Act.

I have found out which groups were granted support and what help they received from the poor welfare in Falun, between the years 1867-1872. In order to receive society´s help, it was important to be the right kind of poor, and that is a working individual who tried his best to support himself and his family, with the exception of those affected by illness or injury.

The neighborhood supervisors of the poor welfare reported the distress and needs of the individuals to the poor welfare board, which decided what support should be given.

Among the beneficiaries’ women were in the majority over men, and the men who were granted support were all workers. However, there are only the answers to who was granted help, not who was denied, which does not show the actual need.

Granted support increased every year within the essay´s timeframe, despite the poor welfare act saying that those who were able to work should not burden the poor welfare. Despite this, the city of Falun granted support to able-bodied individuals who, according to the Poor Welfare Act, had to support themselves

People Before Borders: The tortuous journey of the migrant between EU policies, tight border controls and criminal routes.2015Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This work is the result of a careful analysis and research on a very actual topic in the European continent; migration flows from North Africa towards Europe; migration involving people such as asylum seekers and refugees whose testimonies I have collected, additional to interviews of NGO personnel, in order to compose this thesis.

The main research problems of this qualitative thesis aim to investigate the main causes that lead people to leave their lands and how these decisions are influenced not only by certain push and pull factors but also by certain European policies and if it possible to stop irregular immigration by questioning the concept of "border".

The work is concluded with a testimony of a migrant, since it represents and sums up perfectly the thesis: the path of a migrant from his fears and uncertainties to his desire for a new start in Italy, that today, finally, he is part of.

Den brottsliga landsbygden och järnvägens ankomst. En studie i kriminalitet i ett samhälle i förändring, Daga härad under åren 1855–1865.2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Criminality has always been a problem in all societies, both in urban and rural areas. And when Sweden hade come a bit with the industrialisation of the country, in the 1900th century, and the railroads began to spread across the country, a new type of working men (mostly men) emerged, the railway workers, with a terrible reputation for being aggressive and drunkards. The purpose with this paper is to investigate how the criminal life looked like in the small rural county of Daga härad between the years 1855-1865. I want to se what kind of crimes that where most common and what kind of citizens that where the most present in the protocols and registers. The sources I have used are the actual court notes and protocols that I found in the National archives in Uppsala. The results shows that alcohol related crimes where the most common crimes committed in Daga härad, but that it was widely spread across the citizenship. With both police officers, clergymen and farmers alongside each other as perpetrators. The results do show that there are actually a big class issue with the crimes committed in Daga härad, with working class culprits like farmers, farmers handy men, widows, maids and railway workers as the biggest group that commits the crimes in the county during the time period.

Brazilian South – South Cooperation in Africa: efforts to combat food insecurity through the application of the “Fome Zero” strategy2020Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

After the end of Cold War, the global system changed and from a bipolar to a multipolar world. This has created a perfect environment for emerging powers that in this period start to appear and advocate the problems and goals related to Southern countries. There are new possibilities for developing countries. They do not have to rely on Western countries anymore and they can support each other and contribute to their own development. In this context I will study South – South Cooperation, in particular between Africa and Brazil, by looking at the strategy carried out by both actors in terms of food insecurity. The aim of this study is to describe SSC through the Afro – Brazilian case study, showing its principles and values and, at the end, reflecting on its capacity to replace the traditional approaches of developed countries

Befriad från besiktningsskyldighet: Prostituerade kvinnors avgångsorsaker i Göteborg från 1865-18772017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

The Comprehensiveness of Islam in al-Turabi Sudanese Islamic State2017Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this thesis is to study the presentation and subsequent application of the comprehensiveness of Islam in the Sudanese Islamic state under the leadership of Hasan al-Turabi from the year 1989 until 1999. Several studies have analyzed the history of the Sudanese Islamic state, however, the originality of the current study is in utilizing the concept of the comprehensiveness of Islam as the theoretical lens to review the history of al-Turabi's Islamic state. The current study has used two different sets of research methods. Firstly, for an in-depth investigation of how the concept of the comprehensiveness of Islam was understood and presented in al-Turabi Islamic state, several relevant al-Turabi books were analyzed. The aim of this analysis was to study the comprehension and presentation of comprehensiveness of Islam concept by the al-Turabi -the head of the Sudanese Islamic state. Thereafter, a historical analysis was conducted in order to analyze the practical application of the comprehensiveness of Islam concept by the Hasan al-Turabi’s. The study results have shown that the comprehensiveness of Islam was understood by al-Turabi as a basic part of the Islamic message. Moreover, the Sudanese theologian has underlined that the comprehensiveness of Islam is an indication of the truthfulness of the Islamic message. The second part of the analysis illustrated the practical application of the comprehensiveness of Islam through three main projects enforced by al-Turabi’s regime. These projects were: A) the implementation of the sharia laws in Sudan; B) a large project of Islamisation and Arabisation of the Sudanese society; and C) the creation of the Popular Arab and Islamic Congress (PAIC) as an international front towards a global spread of Islam.

Skara Folkskoleseminarium avgångsklass 1933, efter examen: En studie av lärarinnors syn på sitt civilstånd i kombination med sitt yrkesliv2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

This study examines students’ attitude towards and understand of history as a school subject. The study is particularly interested in how the teachers’ role affects the student’s attitude. The results of this study may help to shed some light on the relationship between attitudes towards the subject and the opinion of the teacher. The study is based on qualitative interview method where twelve (12) students have been interviewed through a semi-structured interview with help of an interview guide. The students are from preparatory and vocational programs from different upper secondary schools (gymnasium) in a medium-sized municipality in Sweden. The results show that most of the students have a positive view of history as a subject, with no distinctive differences between the programs. A common idea teacher have is that students from an occupational preparing program show less motivation and engagement towards a theoretical subject as history, this study proves that idea wrong. Moreover, the results show that teachers hold a significant impact on the students’ attitude towards the subject. The relationship between the teacher and the students is critical for the motivation and commitment from the students. According to this study’s results, the teacher must have a commitment towards the profession as well as the students. It is evident if the students feel a commitment from the teacher, their own motivation is empowered.

Barnprogrammet Från A till Ö – en resa orden runt: 1970-talets barnkultur, uppfattningar om politik, barn- och ungdomspedagogik2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Negotiated Statehood in the Educational Sector of the Democratic Republic of Congo: The Case of Bemba Gombo in Goma2020Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The thesis focuses on the historical-diachronic analysis of the development of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s educational sector, with particular reference to the context of Nord Kivu and its capital Goma. The thesis aim is to understand and investigate how the DRC's educational sector has managed to be resilient over time (especially with regard to its funding), taking into account the interaction of different actors involved. Through the application of Tobias Hagmann and Didier Péclard's negotiated statehood approach to the Congolese educational sector and to a specific school in Goma, Bemba Gombo / Saint Franҫois Xavier Insitute, it is possible to understand who are the principal actors in the educational field, and which actors are excluded from the negotiating tables of the Congolese educational sector.

    Abstract [en]

This thesis tries trough qualitative analyzes to illuminate advertising and its didactic aspects, how menstruation and menstruating women are portrayed over time. The method underlying the survey is didactic, diachronic comparative and hermeneutic. There will also be a feminist point of view on the material. The issue is about how the advertisement presents sanitary products and menstruation and how a menstruating woman is portrayed. The conclusion is that the image of a menstruating woman changes slightly while consolidating the ethos that menstruation should not be visible. The menstruating woman is in constant motion, always fresh and fragrant.

    Abstract [sv]

Nykterhetsnämnden i Halmstad: En undersökning av registrerade personer hos nykterhetsnämnden i Halmstad före respektive efter 1954 års nykterhetsvårdslag, åren 1951-19572021Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

This paper will examine the work of cotton master, Charles Hill, who started a worker funded health and funeral savings society. Hill started his cotton mill in Alingsås in 1862 and by 1866 had 72 employees, 60 of whom were female. Although he was a British patriarch he can be considered to be a social and political pioneer as the fund he started was open to both sexes from its start in 1862. This was a unique event in Alingsås. This can be shown by the example of "Alingsås health and funeral savings society", which did not allow women membership until 1927, unless they were married to a previous member. This paper will examine what motives Charles Hill had for this unusual and pioneering act of gender equality in a patriarchal society. By using general probability reasoning, this paper shall attempt to establish what kind of a patriarch Charles Hill was in respect to his Swedish piers and examine if his patriarchal behavior based on an idealistical philosophy or was he forced to carry out these actions in order to keep his employees? This paper will also show that unlike many other health societies of the period, this one served it members for over 100 years until it was amalgamated into a larger scheme in 1975.

Katrineholms barnhem 1940–1945: En studie av de intagna barnen ur ett socioekonomiskt perspektiv2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
