OR-processen: En arbetsmetod för bättre arbetsmiljö genom Ordning & Reda2008Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

Young peoples’ entrance to the workplace: Introduction to occupational health and safety2016Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Negative outcomes of a poor work environment are more frequent among young workers. The aim of the current study was to study former pupils’ conditions concerning occupational health and safety by investigating the workplaces’, safety climate, the degree of implementation of SWEM and the their introduction programs.

Four branches were included in the study: Industrial, Restaurant, Transport and Handicraft, specialising in wood. Semi-structured dialogues were undertaken with 15 employers at companies in which former pupils were employed. They also answered a questionnaire about SWEM. Former pupils and experienced employees were upon the same occasion asked to fill in a questionnaire about safety climate at the workplace.

Workplace introduction programs varied and were strongly linked to company size. Most of the former pupils and experienced employees rated the safety climate at their company as high, or good. Employers in three of the branches rated the SWEM implemented at their workplaces to be effective.

The Industry companies, which had the largest workplaces, gave the most systematic and workplace introduction for new employees. There are no results from this study explaining the fact that young workers have a higher risk for workplace accidents.

Role of headmasters, teachers and supervisors in knowledge transfer about occupational health and safety to pupils in vocational education2015In: SH@W Safety and Health at Work, ISSN 2093-7911, E-ISSN 2093-7997, Vol. 6, no 4, p. 317-323Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background Young people are at an increased risk for illness in working life. The authorities stipulate certain goals for training in occupational health and safety (OHS) in vocational schools. A previous study concluded that pupils in vocational education had limited knowledge in the prevention of health risks at work. The aim of the current study, therefore, was to study how OHS training is organized in school and in workplace-based learning (WPL).

Method The study design featured a qualitative approach, which included interviews with 12 headmasters, 20 teachers, and 20 supervisors at companies in which the pupils had their WPL. The study was conducted at 10 upper secondary schools, located in Central Sweden, that were graduating pupils in four vocational programs.

Result The interviews with headmasters, teachers, and supervisors indicate a staggered picture of how pupils are prepared for safe work. The headmasters generally give teachers the responsibility for how goals should be reached. Teaching is very much based on risk factors that are present in the workshops and on teachers’ own experiences and knowledge. The teaching during WPL also lacks the systematic training in OHS as well as in the traditional classroom environment.

Conclusion Teachers and supervisors did not plan the training in OHS in accordance with the provisions of systematic work environment management. Instead, the teachers based the training on their own experiences. Most of the supervisors did not get information from the schools as to what should be included when introducing OHS issues in WPL.

Arbetsmiljö vid service- och reparation av skogsbränslemaskiner2013Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Abstract This report concerns a sub-study of the project attractive competitiveness (AKK). The aim of the work is to evaluate five methods that are supposed to” raise awereness” about the advantages of initiating activities to better utilize human resources at work. Based on that shall one method be elected for depend studies. The driving forces for creation of good work environments are many. The primary can be said to be the humanitarian driving force. Except for the considerations that are behind the work environment legislations and agreements between social partners is therefore good reasons for entrepreneurs to give priority to work environment work. The focus of this study is to which extent it is possible by a limited input influence the liability of a manager with responsibilities for the work environment to take decisions to start a process aimed at improving the use of the human resources in the company. The goal is that the manager decides to start such a process which also is supposed to recruit, retain and engage competent staff. In the sub-study have five insight methods been developed or adapted. Those methods have been named gap-analysis, focus groups attractive work, visit, risk analysis, and scenario. The ten participating companies employed between eleven and thirty-nine persons. The companies represented different branches as production, repair work and maintenance. The results from the test of the methods shows that they all meet the criteria’s to be simple to understand and quick to carry through. Focus groups attractive work, visit, and risk analysis gives substantial guidance for further development work. Focus groups attractive work gives a broad base for a continuation built on a dialogue, a deeper analyses of individual level as well as mental and social dimensions. Of that reason chosen for deepened studies. This study indicates that there are possibilities to influence managers to decide about activities aimed at better use of human resources. There are therefore reasons to make further studies in a number of companies where the elected method is used.

Arbetsmiljöfrågans väg: samverkan mellan kundföretag och företagshälsovård2006Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

Pimex: a developed visualisation tool for occupational hygiene2005In: IOHA 6th International Conference, Pilansberg, South Africa, 2005Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

PIMEX involves the combination of real-time monitoring instruments with video of the worker’s activities. In the1980s the idea was developed and tested in Sweden and is now an established method used by practitioners in different countries. The goal was to develop easy-to-use, usercentered risk communication tools that should provide the user with the information needed to reduce the risks in their working life. PIMEX can now play an important role in getting the message across about hazards and risks in the workplace. The PIMEX method has been used in the following areas: • Direct intervention at workplaces to motivate and engage worker • Task analysis for understanding and controlling exposure • Production of training material • Occupational hygiene research For direct intervention, PIMEX has some important advantages. By watching recorded material, the personnel involved develop a better understanding of the connection between the situation at the workplace and the exposure that arises. This knowledge is considerably more difficult to communicate when the monitoring results are presented in reports, tables or figures. Presentation is made even easier by the fact that the results can be viewed simultaneously as the measurements are being made. This makes it possible to use the viewer’s curiosity, knowledge that supports motivation for participation in work environment development. Occupational hygienist etc. can get detailed information on exposure by the use of task analysis. That information can provide a very important basis for remedial measures. Production of training material is an area of use that makes it possible to spread the knowledge gained at one workplace to a larger circle. The medium can be video, CD or DVD. One such example on a training material is “Hazard Prevention and Control in the Work Environment: Airborne Dust” based on a WHO document. The course material was tested and evaluated in South Africa 2003. As a tool for research, PIMEX provides many opportunities. The wealth of information that is found in a picture, combined with the monitoring data from different instruments, can provide the basis for research on such topics as the connection between production parameters and exposure.

A study visit to a vitual company2012In: NGL 2012  Next Generation Learning Conference: Conference proceedings, Falun: Högskolan Dalarna , 2012, p. 69-74Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

To integrate study visits to different workplaces in higher education implies important benefits for the course quality. The study visit gives the students a better understanding for the real situations they will meet in working life. However for practical and economical reasons is that not always possible. The purpose of this project is to create a virtual company that shall replace the real one for study visits. The goal is to create a realistic picture and that intended use of it can come as close as possible to a real study visit. It is also important to facilitate linking theory and practice. The virtual company is built up by pictures, videos and text. All material is made available on a web page and when entering the students will meet a layout of the company. From that position is it possible to walk around and look at videos from different workstations. Besides that can they also listen to interviews with managers and representatives of staff as well as reading reports concerning productivity and the work environment. The focus of the study visit is work sciences, therefore the material also include some visualized information about work hazards. On the web page there are also a number of tasks for the students to carry out. Until the autumn 2011, 132 students at Dalarna University have visited and produced reports from the virtual company. They were studying in programs for mechanical engineering, production technicians and human resource management. An evaluation among some ten students showed that the study visit to the virtual company is flexible in time and effective, but that students wish to have even more detailed information about the company. Experiences from four years of use in a number of classes show that the concept is worth further development. Furthermore with production of new material the concept is likely to be applicable for other purposes.

What pupils in vocational schools learn about risk at work2015Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Negative health effects because of poor work environment is more common among young workers compared to older. One explanation might be that younger ones have a low awareness of risk, a lack of safety training, and inadequate introductions to the work. A study has been made focusing on the pupils in vocational schools knowledge and experiences about potential work environment risks in their future work. Questionnaires were distributed to 239 pupils in ten Swedish upper secondary schools’ graduating classes in four vocational programs focusing on basic knowledge about health risks at work as well as the work environment legislation. The programs were the Industrial Technology Program, the Restaurant Management and Food Program, the Transport Program, and the Handicraft Program (in which students specialize in wood). The results from the questionnaires were followed up with focus group discussions. The results showed that the pupils in general had limited knowledge that employers must, by law, conduct risk analyses and prevent risks. It was common that they mentioned themselves as the main responsible to work safe and was not clear about the employers’ duty to arrange for safe work. Pupils in all programs mentioned acute risk as the biggest risk at work. It was concluded that a systematic approach to pupils’ training in work environment is lacking. The results indicates a clear gap between what knowledge the pupils are offered and what’s intended by laws as well as state-of-the-art in occupational health risk research.

PIMEX 2008 for the aluminium industry. Visualised training material and manual.2008Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

PIMEX in the aluminiumindustry. It is not always self-evident what should be done to minimize the elements that create problems in the work environment. Which initiatives are most effective in improving the air quality? How can we decrease noise and vibration? How should we work in order to decrease the risk of strain injuries? Often is it possible to significantly reduce these risks without bigger investments, simply by making these hazards visible. The PIMEX-method does this clearly by simultaneously filming and monitoring the workplace so that such hazards – air pollutants, for example – can be traced. PIMEX has shown itself to be an effective tool for implementing work environment improvements.

    Abstract [en]

Role-based Access Control is a standardized and well established model in terms of handling access rights. However, the accepted ANSI standard 359-2004 lacks the support of geographically delimiting role authorizations. Information systems handling geographical data together with the increasing use of mobile devices call for a need to discuss such spatial aspects within the context of Role-Based Access Control. This thesis seeks to shed light on the current state of knowledge within the subject area as well as to identify aspects of it that are in need of further development. The theoretical framework conceived by the initial literature review has made the conduction of a systematic literature review possible, and the synthesis and analysis of the data together with the theoretical framework have led to the work’s contributions of knowledge: an overview of the subject where the state-of-the art in the area is presented and a structured list of desirous needs of research and development within the area of study.

Usability is a concept that exists to make it easier for visitors to find the right information efficiently, with goodsatisfaction and widely used. There are various guidelines to achieve good usability on websites that have theirown criteria that need to be met before the site can develop to be seen as useful. I have explored andevaluated a web site that contains an online system, based on previous research on usability of web sites anddata collection of user testing and surveys. I have tried to analyze the results I have gathered to try to answerHow important is it to follow the utility in the development of a website with a reservation system? My researchhas shown that guidelines are something that one should follow to the best of our ability, but only if theguidelines are relevant to the product objectives and one can speculate for the need for guidelines for usabilitytargeting sites with specific purposes.

    Abstract [en]

Corporate social responsibility is a diffuse concept. The term has been successively developing for a long time but has only experienced a significant boost in just the last few decades. The internet has been a contributing factor and because of the advancement of it, has made it easier for companies (generally) to display their responsibility to society.

The Swedish state is trying to gain control of the Swedish gambling market, as the number of so-called unregulated companies is increasing. The unregulated gambling companies are companies based abroad but also target the Swedish gambling market and the regulated gambling companies are companies that are responsible before the Swedish state. The unregulated gambling companies are not restricted by the laws and regulations that apply to the regulated gambling companies and may therefore circumvent them. This fact means that consumer protection cannot fully be guaranteed and it is therefore appropriate for gambling companies to ensure that consumers are assured of a sound market. Then both the communication of corporate social responsibility and the actions towards corporate social responsibility can play an important part.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate how the contemporary Swedish gambling market affects the regulated and the unregulated gambling companies´ approach to corporate social responsibility and their communication of corporate social responsibility (as well as the legitimacy that follows). A quantitative survey has been conducted, sending out mails to a whole population of the regulated gambling companies and a selection of the unregulated gambling companies.

The study showed that both the regulated and the unregulated gambling companies have a positive view of corporate social responsibility and both the regulated gambling companies as well as the unregulated gambling companies believe that the abolition of the gambling monopoly would contribute to a better gambling market.

Corporate social responsibility plays an important role of both the regulated and the unregulated companies, but if the gambling monopoly is abolished, the general approach to corporate social responsibility will improve as unserious gambling companies disappear from the market.

    Abstract [en]

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) have progressed from a focus on ethics to performance and thus working as a strategic tool for differentiation and it is today well recognized for companies to use CSR with the assumption that this will generate a competitive advantage. While CSR has been proved to create added value to the brand of a company there is also demands from consumers that companies should engage in Corporate Social Responsibility. However, the lack of awareness from consumers about companies CSR-initiatives have been observed, which can be considered as problematic due to companies’ investments in CSR and if these initiatives thus are taken into consideration while evaluating companies. The purpose of the study is to explain whether and how CSR influence consumers’ attitudes towards the brand of a company and if this implies added value. To achieve the purpose a quantitative method were used and surveys were sent to students of Dalarna University and 682 respondents fulfilled the survey. The findings demonstrate a low degree of awareness, but worth noticing is that consumers with a higher degree of awareness present more favorable attitudes towards the company. These attitudes proves to generate intangible values for companies engaging in CSR and which is theoretically explained to imply brand equity. In conclusion the study reveals that CSR can be used by companies in branding purposes, still consumers’ lack of awareness about companies’ CSR-initiatives is found as a limiting factor.

    Abstract [sv]

Examensarbetet resulterade i två stycken fungerande prototyper.

This work is a survey about CGI’s self-developed invoice system called CDI. This invoice system is used by Trafikverket and the foundation of this work is based on a survey that maps out what problems there is with the current user interface in CDI. The work focuses only on the view where the user is performing accounts of invoices.

The user interface that is used today was developed around 2007 and according to CGI, needs a modernization. The idea over sight is to replace the user interface with a new, updated one that helps the user more than the current user interface.

The purpose of the report is to investigate what problems that users is experiencing with the current user interface and with the help of two self-developed design-proposals evaluate how to fix these problems.

This is being performed with the help of a zero-state analysis, that maps the current problems and another analysis that evaluates the design-proposals. Both analysis is made from interviews and is performed with three persons from Trafikverket that work with the invoice system on a daily basis.

When the evaluation is done there will be a revised version of the earlier design-proposals, this will be the final product of this report. The final product will later be used as a foundation in the work around developing the new user interface for CDI.

    Abstract [en]

During The Million Homes Programme, 1964 – 1975, over one million homes were built and it’s now time for an extensive modernization of these buildings.

The purpose of this work was to see how the building envelope of a multifamily building from the Million Homes Programme can be energy efficient. This was done through enquiries and calculations, and by comparing these to current and future requirements of energy use. The enquiries that have been conducted were tests of impermeability and thermography. The calculations suggest both individual and combined actions to improve the building envelope.  The enquiries and calculations do not consider installations, architectural values, or economy, only how much the energy use can be optimized through improving the building envelope.

The best result achieved through combined actions was a reduction of energy use by 32,3 %. The individual action with the best result was the replacement of windows and balcony door: 16,4 % reduction of energy use.

Only the building envelope has been taken in to account in this rapport which means that a greater improvement is possible if installations also is included.

An important conclusion of the project is that the building envelope has a great effect on a building’s energy usage. The requirements of energy use that come into effect January 1, 2021 can be accomplished by only correcting the deficiencies in the building envelope.

    Abstract [en]

Recruitment needs in Swedish health care are the basis of this study. The requirements are

increasing according to SKL (2015) and the lack of staff leads to competition for labour

among organisations. Better knowledge and understanding of human socialisation would help

to solve the problem, with a focus in the workplace in order to facilitate the organisation's

    management to retain staff.

Further research is needed regarding managerial support and colleague relationships, and the

impact they have on the socialisation of new employees. The aim of this study is to examine

how a company in the health care sector works with the socialisation of new employees by

focusing on social relationships and managerial support.

Research involving the socialisation of new employees highlights colleagues as a tool to gain

access to important resources, for example: tacit knowledge. Managers need to be present and

give feedback, organisational culture influences as part of the organisation's personality.

The study consists of abductive and qualitative interviews, with focus on individual

interpretation and experience of their socialisation within the company. Eleven interviews

were conducted, with four managers and seven new employees participating in the study.

The result of the interviews have been analysed using a theoretical framework. We have

concluded that manager awareness of what the individual goes through, during their

socialisation process, affects the managerial support given to the new employees. Colleagues

are important resources and not just a tool for new employees, without also needing to take on

a large responsibility for individuals introduced to the social environment in the workplace.

However, the new employees also need to be open and active in order to receive support from

their colleagues. For the staff to share the organisational culture, they need to be involved in

the changes and common purposes, which permeate the entire operation. To achieve the

successful assimilation of a new employee into such an environment requires a company to be

fully aware of the social development structure within its own organisation. Working closely

with the Human Resources' department, playing a large part in the success of the socialization

    process.

Att engagera personal i digitalisering.: En kvalitativ studie om personalengagemang i digitalisering i ett småföretag.2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Digitalization is a hot topic in today’s world. It’s almost a must for businesses to engage in digitalization if they want to keep thriving one the market. A study conducted by Tillväxtanalys, a Swedish management authority, shows that businesses within the Swedish construction sector are less likely to have a high degree of digital maturity and a digitalized business. The study also shows that small businesses in general are falling behind big businesses in regard to digitalization. In a small business in the Swedish construction sector, the management have tried for years to digitalize their analogue business. The problem however, is the fear and resistance to change within the organization.

The purpose of this thesis report was to identify and describe the factors needed to engage the employees of a small business in a digitalization. Identify which types of change resistance that existed within the organization and to determine the degree of digital maturity.

This case study was conducted with the use of interviews and a questionnaire which have been answered by the employees at this company. The collected data was then analyzed and compared to previous research. The result of this study shows that there are two types of change resistance within the organization and that there are five important factors to engage employees in digitalization within small business; competence, trust, communication, organization-wide need and vision for the change and finally participation.

    Abstract [en]

ABB Components in Ludvika manufactures bushing for transformers. During the manufacturing, several steel molds are used. The molds are stored on a steel mezzanine floor constructed by several columns and beams. Due to that the amount of these molds has increased the existing way to handle and store these molds is impaired based on a safety and effectivity perspective. ABB have received two concept that propose how these problems could be solved. One is based on a solution with a special floor made of spheres. The other one is from a company called ELE Engineering AB that proposes a conveyor belt that is attached to the underside of the mezzanine floor. This will enable for 60 new molds to be stored. This work aims to evaluate how the mezzanine is affected by the weight of the new molds, how it should be strengthened and to evaluate which of the concept is recommended.

Based on a series of simulations it is suggested that the mezzanine floor is reinforced with 21 new beams and 5 pillars to cope with the stresses the molds give rise to. The European standard EN-1090 has been the basis for how these columns and beams should be designed and attached. Further the two concepts will be evaluated based on effectivity, price and safety. Based on a concept evaluation ELEs solution is recommended despite lack of information about the floor with spheres.

    Abstract [en]

The use of Intrusion Detection Systems is a normal thing today in bigger companies, butthe solutions that are to be found in market is often too expensive for the smallercompany. Therefore, we saw the need in investigating if there is a more affordablesolution. In this report, we will show that it is possible to use low cost single boardcomputers as part of a bigger centralized Intrusion Detection System. To investigate this,we set up a test system including 2 Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, a cloud server and the use oftwo home networks, one with port mirroring implemented in firmware and the other withdedicated span port. The report will show how we set up the environment and the testingwe have done to prove that this is a working solution.

    Abstract [en]

Computers have become invaluable for advanced calculation tasks in most industries.

Formerly, designers had to rely on his skills and knowledge to perform calculations.

Nowadays, designers can execute a calculation without the need to use the actual formulas

behind. It is recommended by experienced designers that some of the programs used in the

building industry, which are based on the European Eurocodes needs to be validated.

The aim of this study has been to calculate the punching capacity of ordinary reinforced

slab and to design the shear reinforcement, according to Eurocode 2. The method was a

theoretical study of the Eurocodes. A calculation sheet for punching capacity was made in

Mathcad. The calculations from the sheet were compared to Winstatik Punching and

caeEc230. The work has been defined to include only an inner column on a concrete slab

with a circular cross section without any column heads or other reinforcements. In order to

achieve realistic calculations, nine cases with different slab thicknesses and spans were

    manipulated.

The capacities from the three calculations were nearly identical, both at the columns

perimeter and at the control perimeter. The greatest differences were found in the design of

the shear reinforcement. They showed similar amount of reinforcement in terms of area, but

offered no guidance on the design. CaeEc230 suggested about double the amount of rebar

cuts than the calculations in Mathcad. Winstatik Punching reported no total at all.

    Abstract [en]

Aim: The aim of this study is to analyze why consumers follow retail companies on social media i.e. which consumer motives are the most common.

Method: The study has conducted a deductive approach and a quantitative method for both data collection and analyzes.

Findings: The findings show that the most frequent consumer motives for following retail companies on social media are to "find discount codes / offers", "find information about the company and its products", "find news and information about product launches" and "get inspiration from what companies posts online”. No significant differences in motives could be found between different sectors or demographic variables among consumers. The four mentioned motives above were the most common ones among the respondents regardless of gender, age or company sector.

Suggestions for further research: proposals for further research could be to perform a qualitative study with the same purpose and research questions as this one. That could contribute to the gain of deeper information and knowledge in this area and could be a complement to the results from this study.

    Abstract [en]

Social media have for a long time been perceived as irrelevant as a marketing tool in industrial markets. One reason is the perception that customers are not available on social media, and therefore there is no reason for industrial companies to market through these channels. The growth of the Internet has however changed this, and social media have become a crucial tool in industrial marketing. Even though the usage of social media is growing in industrial markets, it is still uncertain how industrial companies can use social media in marketing.

The purpose of this study is to explain how industrial companies can use social media. The study is defined to how eight swedish industrial companies use social media, including users, target groups and platforms. Eight interviews have been conducted with representatives from eight industrial companies, all of which are responsible for handling the social media.

The results from the interviews show that industrial companies can use social media for lots of purposes, and not only marketing for customers. The collected data shows a huge variation in the different kinds of users that the companies use on social media, and also a variation in areas of use, platforms and target groups. The study also indicates that the traditional marketing could have a positive impact on the response in social media. This could mean that social media can be successfully used in combination with the traditional marketing. In all of the interviews it is clear that social media will have an increased importance for industrial marketing in the future.

    Abstract [en]

Background & problem: For the financial year of 2014 companies are forced to implement one of BFN’s new accounting regulations. These accounting regulations are: K1, K2, K3 and K4. We have chosen to focus on the mid-sized companies that fall within the framework of K2. These may choose to report either in accordance with K2 or in accordance with K3. The primary difference between these regulations is that K2 is rulesbased while K3 is principlesbased. A principlesbased framework is built on individual interpretations and assessments while the rulesbased framwork is covered by detailed rules. We have, because of this reason, submitted the following questions:

 What are the determinants that have influenced the choice between K2 and K3?

 What choice has Sweden’s medium-sized companies made with regards to K2 and K3?

Purpose: To explain which determinants that affects the choice between K2 and K3.

Method: In an attempt to try and answer the problem the authors have used a quantitative method with a deductive approach and secondary data from corporate financial annual reports have been gathered. We did hypothesis tests with the help of confidence intervals to see if the variables firm size, debt ratio, the amount of long-term debt and the industry affiliation was able to explain the choice between K2 and K3.

Result & conclusion: The results of our study show that the factor that affects the accounting choice is industry affiliation. The outcome of the survey was not as we had expected when only one of our four hypotheses could be accepted. We think that a reason for this might be the limited sample of the study. The study has focused only on the variables of corporate annual reports. One can imagine that there are additional factors that influence companies' choices such as bonus plans.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to increase understanding of the role of the site manager in small and medium-sized construction companies from a sustainability perspective. We have investigated which areas of responsibility and internal support a site manager can have, how the psychosocial work environment for the site manager is and what competences and experiences are requested from a site manager. Furthermore, we have investigated whether there is strategic competence supply of site managers.

The results show that small and medium-sized construction companies in Dalarna find it difficult to recruit site managers and in the case of recruitment, they preferably seek candidates with experience of being a site manager. Furthermore, they protect their current corporate culture. The responsibilities for a site manager are many, however, internal support is available. Several of the construction companies find the psychosocial work environment difficult to handle. Additionally, each of the respondents identify that the greatest health risk for a site manager is currently stress.

The method used was qualitative and the empirical material was collected through semi structured interviews. Five respondents participated in the study and all held corporate leading positions in their respective companies, with good knowledge of the role of the site manager. The empirical material was analyzed and discussed based on previous research and theories.

The conclusion of this study is that the role of the site manager is not maintained from a sustainable perspective, as the demands on the already existing site managers increase whilst new abilities doesn’t get access to the role due to lack of experience.

    Abstract [en]

Retail business is expected to face a major challenge in the coming years. This is because digitalization is growing rapidly, and e-commerce is increasingly competing against traditional stores. It requires innovative thinking of companies to be competitive.

To meet the challenge, I mean that impulse purchases can be used as a competitive advantage for retail companies. This study has therefore taken its starting point in the phenomenon impulse purchases.

The study focuses on a female perspective since women are more inclined to execute impulse purchases.

The purpose was to contribute to increased knowledge of the factors that may be crucial when Swedish women do impulse purchases. The study's empirical gathering consisted of a group interview and three individual interviews. These interviews were based on an analysis model developed by the study's literature review.

In summary, three factors from the study's analysis model that could be shown to be influential in impulse purchases

. These are shopping environments, offers and companies while shopping. Even additional sale and age have been shown to be significant for impulse purchases.

Grafisk kartvisning av verksamhetsinformation2005Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years))Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Questions and problems related to groundwater management are important in road construction, especially at a cutting slope. The thesis describes the problems encountered during the construction of a road caused by high levels of groundwater. The aim of the thesis was to follow up considerations, problems and assessments considering groundwater connected to the building phase. Four specific aims were formulated; description of erosion control and of the assessments made considering groundwater and its effect on the construction, monitoring groundwater levels during the building phase and to do a simple theoretical calculation of the groundwater levels.

To meet the objective several methods were selected, literature review, surveys, interviews with people professionally related to the project and field measurements of groundwater tables.

Measures to prevent erosion can be divided into vegetative and landscaped, either with soil and rock fills on the slopes or with various ditches. During the project, the design for the road and hillsides changed. Problems with groundwater and erosion have been important for the modified construction. Groundwater levels outside the intersection first increased, probably due to the deforestation and then dropped during the excavation. All but one pipe at the intersection show a lowering of the groundwater during the excavations and a smaller increase during snowmelt than in previous years. The calculated level of groundwater shows in one pipe a level far below the measured, indicating a continuing decrease, in the other pipe a higher level is calculated.

Advanced vegetative erosion control systems are relative uncommon in Sweden today. Measurements of the groundwater tables should be carried out for a long time to provide a reliable reference level. Knowledge of the soils in the cutting intersection is important in the context of groundwater management together with a sufficient communication between those involved in the construction process. The groundwater levels in the intersection will probably continue its declining trend. Reliable calculations of groundwater tables are complex and their result can still be questioned.

Behovsstyrd ventilation: En fallstudie för zonstyrd ventilation i ett flerbostadshus2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The construction sector accounts for a large part of the primary energy use globally. In order to prevent global warming and to achieve the goals set by Sweden together with the EU, major changes are required in the sector. Energy requirements to heat and cool properties is an important part of this change and for people's well-being. The problem with many of today's system is that they are using more energy than needed and energy efficiency is a must to achieve the goals. Through innovative and smart systems, human needs can be safeguarded while energy requirements is reduced. The purpose was to investigate, through a case study, whether a new ventilation system for apartment buildings could make energy consumption more efficient while at the same time a high indoor comfort could be obtained. Only one apartment is considered which is located in Hedemora, Dalarna. The method was to install a demand-controlled ventilation system in the apartment and measure air quality, air temperature and air flow rate with the help of sensors The new ventilation system is then compared with two common ventilation strategies (extract air and natural ventilation). The energetic evaluation is based on measured air flow rates solely. The result was then compared to government recommendations regarding carbon dioxide levels. The measurement data shows that the demand-controlled ventilation system in most cases reaches the recommendations while the energy demand is lower. An important conclusion from the degree thesis is that ordinary ventilation strategies such as natural draft and exhaust air give a worse indoor climate compared to the demand-controlled system.
