    Abstract [en]

    Aim and starting point: The aim of the Bachelor thesis is to examine and define the paramount knowledge Chinese businessmen need in order to succeed with their establishment in Sweden. The authors also seek to answer what incentives attract Chinese businessmen to come to Sweden, as well as how Chinese establishments in Sweden can be predicted to appear in the future.

    Results/conclusions: The study outlines key areas in which Chinese businessmen should have knowledge in order to succeed with their establishment in Sweden. The results also gives an indication on how Chinese business establishments in Sweden will appear in the future, into which areas the Chinese mainly invest/establish in, as well as why and how these are done. On the basis of this material the authors generate proposals for educational packages which among others can be sold to Chinese businessmen.

    Knowledge overview: Here relevant theory connected to the area of study is presented. The knowledge overview presents the Swedish in relation to the Chinese perspective in areas such as: culture, hierarchy, relations, Face, communication, HRM, education, CSR and labour law. The knowledge overview can itself contribute to fostering an understanding of differences between Sweden and China.

    Method: The area of research has been accessed by a combination of methods. The study is both deductive and explorative. The main channel of information and data collection are in-depth interviews which are used as a deductive starting point, an expert investigation and as a Grounded Theory. As a complement the authors have also conducted a delphi study in which an expert panel answered questions concerning the future of Chinese establishments in Sweden. The deductive and explorative parts have been analyzed individually and have each generated a conclusion. These conclusions have then been interwoven in a synthesis that highlights and creates new knowledge.

    Syfte och utgångspunkt:    Att utifrån fyra organisationer undersöka faktorer som är viktiga för arbete med expatriering och att använda Mendenhall, Dunbar och Oddous modell som inspiration för att skapa en egen modell med faktorer värdefulla för en expatrieringsprocess.

     

    Forskningsresan:                 Utifrån referensram samt ett empiriskt resultat av intervjuer identifieras fyra kategorier, betydelse av att ta med familjen, mentorskap och stöd, anpassning till kultur och karriärplanering. Det empiriska resultatet samt referensramen är sedan grunden till analys och slutsats.

     

    Slutsats:                              I slutsatsen presenteras betydelsefulla faktorer för utgången av studiens syfte.   Dessa faktorer används sedan i den modell författarna skapat. Modellen visar hur behovet av de fyra kategorierna är beroende av den planerade utlandsstationeringens längd.

     

    Metod:                                Författarna av studien utgår från en kvalitativ ansats med djupintervjuer som metod. Det empiriska resultatet baseras på det material som framkommit genom djupintervjuer med  respondenterna från de fyra organisationerna.

    Short lived vampire: The Failure of Destination Collaboration: A case study ofValjevo, Serbia2015Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave
    Abstract [en]

    The importance of stakeholder collaboration within a tourism destination is widelyrecognized in the literature. However, this process seems to be very complex and challengingdue to multiple actors with interest in tourism development and fragmented nature ofdestinations. Both, influental and competent stakeholders need to be considered in tourismplanning and decision-making, in order to avoid conflicts and provide integral tourist product.This paper explores the case in which the process of collaboration was very complex,followed by many discrepancies and limitations. It is dealing with the formation andevolution of a destination collaboration and controversial promotional idea. By usingqualitative method of interviews, the paper seeks to reveal the main reasons which influencedthe failure of a major collaborative initiative supported by number of destinationstakeholders. This will be done by exploring the case of disagreement over a joint marketingidea between the official government-led DMO and industry-led cluster. For the empiricalanalysis, the case of destination Valjevo in Serbia was choosen. It is a destination that isfacing a number of problems typical for many tourist places in Serbia. The area is verydiverse, with a large number of potential tourist products, narratives, events, and alreadyexisting associations. The idea of using a figure of a vampire to promote Valjevo as a touristdestination was triggering a series of problems and criticism. In-depth interviews with a totalof seven respondents were carried out in order to collect the primary data for the research.The results have shed light on six main groups of factors that synergistically contribute to thedestination collaboration failure, namely: public pressure, lack of support and understanding,interpersonal relations and personalities, membership structure and internal factors, includingthe inactivity of the members themselves. Competitive relations among official DMO andmembers of the collaborative initiative seem to be particularly important and limiting for thesuccess of destination collaboration in this case. It shows that disagreement about the ways ofpromotion can be an important constraint and a factor of instability, which can infect thewhole collaborative process and question its further existence. The results confirm thecomplexity of relations and perspectives within a single tourism destination, made up of alarge number of stakeholders with their own system of thinking and acting.

    Vår kandidatuppsats, Rå men hjärtlig - en kvalitativ studie om kvinnor i ledande positioner på en mansdominerad arbetsplats baseras på hur kvinnor i ledande positioner upplever sina förutsättningar och villkor i en mansdominerad organisation. Vidare syftar undersökningen till att  redogöra för hur organisationen upplevs arbeta med jämställdhetsfrågor. Intresset för genomförandet av undersökningen grundas i vår egen nyfikenhet av ledarskapet. Ytterligare ville vi få en förförståelse för vad ledande kvinnor kan tänkas möta med utgångspunkten att vara i minoritet. Den teoretiska referensramen består av teorier, begrepp och tidigare forskning gällande kön och genus men även jämställdhet. Genomgående teorier för undersökningen är Doing gender och mannen som norm. Majoriteten av teorierna valdes ut innan insamling av det empiriska materialet. Strategier kvinnor utvecklar på mansdominerade arbetsplatser har tillkommit efter datainsamlingen. En kvalitativ undersökning med semi-strukturerande intervjuer genomfördes i en global industrikoncern i Sverige. Tio (10) kvinnor i ledande positioner från tre (3) olika affärsområden och olika hierarkiska nivåer deltog.

    Resultatet av undersökningen visar att kvinnor i ledande positioner på en mansdominerad arbetsplats tenderar att möta olika typer av motstånd eftersom att de ofta bedöms utifrån den manliga normen. En organisation kan tillskriva kön olika stereotypa föreställningar vilket de själva har svårt att upptäcka eftersom att det normaliseras i den rådande kontexten. Det framkommer att jargongen kan vara väldigt hård och att en kvinna i ledande position förväntas tåla lite. Resultatet talar även för att de kvinnor som känner sig accepterade trivs mycket bra på sin arbetsplats, att vara accepterad är således betydelsefullt.

    This article presents an audio-visual methodology, VOSMET, designed to address activities of the craft of film editing, with a focus on the use of perception, and its implications. The methodology employs 13 different visual aspects and five different audio aspects, starting with video-recording observations of an editor, and ending with the analysis of eye-tracking data from film viewers. Craft research needs methodologies that address craft activities and cognitive approaches. Design practices share a similar need for reaching deeper understanding. It is neither established how film editors achieve perceptual precision in continuity editing in practice. The VOSMET methodology simultaneously captures bodily actions, utterances, software events, and keystrokes, along with the audiovisual material under processing, and uses graphics to distinguish between what takes place. The methodology also contributes by grasping what a film editor attends to, how this attention functions, as well as how perceptual factors are handled by the film editor. Finally, the methodology can evaluate editorial intentions against film viewer perceptions.

    Design Matters for the Role of the University in a Regional Innovation System2019Konferansepaper (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [en]

    The role of a university in an innovation system can take on various forms. The design of that role depends on how the university enters into collaboration with other parties in the innovation system, and how they all contribute to this design. Here, we apply a social system’s design perspective, and point out some key issues and aspects that should be considered if the role of universities is to be purposefully designed, rather than formed ad hoc.

    The purpose of such a design would be to support a wide scope of mutual benefits for the university and its collaborators – a “maximum output” from the engagement. The aim here is to point out concrete matters for the system’s designer(s) to consider, in order to create a role for the university in the innovation system that embraces a range of the university’s assets and capacities. Therefore, we address a number of critical issues and aspects affecting the functioning of the university in regard to an associated regional innovation system. Why these factors are critical will also be discussed.

    The paper stems from a pilot-project, where 16 semi-structured interviews from four (4) different Swedish regions were analysed, including regional innovation system executives, university innovation officers and leaders, as well as university research group leaders. We have analysed the reason why certain issues are critical for success when designing a university’s role in a regional innovation system:

    First, a university's contribution to the support of an innovation system through expertise consultancy and resources require other factors than participation in the innovation process by knowledge involvement does. Second, within the university there is a tendency to make a distinction between the ideation part and the utilisation part of the innovation process: different units at the university tend to show more engagement in different aspects of the process. Third, research commission is at heart for both university researchers and external parties. Fourth, the university comprises multifaceted capacities and potentials to sustain core functions in the innovation processes: as a meeting place; as a strategic knowledge broker; or as a driving force. Fifth, a university’s various networks  is a resource that might be underestimated by external parties. Sixth, much of collaborative innovation is accomplished in smaller units within the university, far from centralised university administration. Centralisation supports the university’s relations to external parties, whereas de-centralised and independent involvement of university units supports direct and efficient collaboration.  

    To maximise the output from the university’s engagement in the innovation system, the university’s role must be designed to distinguish between involvement in, or support of, innovation processes, between internal and external context requirements, and between what functions are suitable for innovation collaboration for different units of the university.

    Disjunctive External and Internal Ideas on the University's Role in a Regional Innovation System2019Konferansepaper (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [en]

    Regional innovation systems are recurrently presented by model figures. The purpose of such figures is to monitor certain ideas regarding each presented system. The topic of this paper is the role of the University represented through such model figures, and what ideas such figures are created to promote. In analysing the models, a visual communication perspective is paired with network notions.

    The current objective is to discuss what politics can be found behind the idea promotion, when figures created within a university is compared to figures created outside of it. The aim is to clarify core differences between motives underlying the engagement of a university in its associated regional innovation system, by taking on the research question: How should we understand the disjunctions between model imagery on the University’s role in a regional innovation system used by people inside and outside of the University, respectively?

    The research method used in this pilot-project, focusing on the Dalarna region of Sweden, is an analysis of policy documents in combination with interviews. The policy documents come from universities, as well as from other institutions engaged in regional innovation systems. Primarily the model figure of the regional innovation system presented by Region Dalarna (http://www.regiondalarna.se/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Mobilisera-for-tillvaxt-Innovationsarbete-och-smart-specialisering.pdf [p.18]) is compared to Dalarna University’s model figure of its regional collaboration self-understanding (https://www.du.se/sv/Samverkan/Lägesrapport och slutrapport – Förstudie Högskolan Dalarnas roll i det regionala innovationssystemet.pdf [p.11]), and analysed in regard to policy documents on the Dalarna innovation system. Semi-structured interviews are also made with regional innovation system executives, university innovation officers and leaders, as well as university research group leaders, 14 interviews in total, spread across four (4) different Swedish regions.

    The results are several: there are commonalities in the understanding of the university’s role in the Dalarna innovation system, inside and outside of Dalarna University, but also several disjunctions:

    (1)   It is a common understanding that there could be cooperation between the university and others based on research, and/or through education.

    (2)   One disjunction regard whether the university should act as one centrally organized hub for such collaboration, or function through a more scattered and self-organized set of units, in accordance with specific knowledge areas, where collaboration takes place.

    (3)   Another disjunction appears concerning the university’s role in regard to innovation, whether it should be expected to be involved in the very innovation processes, or be an external part in support of innovation by providing resources and expertise for those that innovate.

    (4)   A third disjunction concerns the university’s regional engagement, whether its prime efforts should be focused inwards the region, or if it is more important to function as a network provider and facilitator towards other regions as well as globally.

    (5)   The fourth encountered disjunction regards weather the university should take on the intermediating role as a (strategic) knowledge broker that connects and encourages parties to innovation collaboration, or, yet again, the active role as the (leading) driving force in collective innovation processes, covering entire strategic areas of intervention.

    (6)   A more delicate disjunction, the fifth, is the different views on knowledge, where the external expectations on the university is to deliver configured pieces of knowledge, from research or education, ready to exploit into innovation and business, whereas the university’s internal understanding is that knowledge should be developed during the collaborative process, jointly with the external parties.

    The implications of these results are that (1) the common attitude of the possibility for the university to be involved in the regional innovation system which constitutes the vital starting point for such involvement to be achieved in a systematic and meaningful way. The disjunctions are in that sense topics for negotiation: (2) how much the university should centralize its innovation system involvement must be balanced against the benefits of free and active collaboration with external parties on the level of units and individuals within the organization; (3) to what degree supportive functions for an innovation system should be expected from a university, or from others, and what actual innovation activities the university should be involved in, or not; (4) weather the university should have a more operative engagement within the region, or rather emphasize its capacity as a bridge towards other regions and countries through its networks; (5) in what regards it is useful that the university has a more strategic or leading role in terms of broking knowledge, or driving innovation processes; and (6) what are the goals and terms of collaboration – exploitation of existing knowledge or mutual development of new knowledge?

    We see, as the main outcomes of this study, that the outset for a university to engage in the regional innovation system is affirmative, when involvement is recognized as possible in both research and education, from within as well as from outside the university. The existing disjunctions regarding a university’s role in the innovation system, though, present a challenge for negotiation, which, if not taken seriously, risks a collapse of collaborations and a failure of the involvement.

    Bakgrund:

    I dagens samhälle så skrivs det mycket om sex timmars arbetsdag i media. Att arbeta sex timmar men få betalt för åtta timmarsarbetsdag är något som väckt mångas intresse. År 1973 reglerades arbetstiden till 40 timmar per arbetsvecka, sedan dess har ingen ytterligare lagstadgad förändring skett. Det känns därför relevant att studera hur sex timmars arbetsdag påverkar individens psykiska och fysiska hälsa för att personalen och arbetsgivare ska få förståelse för vilka positiva samt negativa aspekter som det eventuellt kan medföra. Syfte: Syfte med denna undersökning är att kartlägga hur personalens självupplevda hälsa påverkas genom införandet av sex timmars arbetsdag, ur ett personalperspektiv. Metod: För denna uppsats har triangulering använts som metod. Där kvantitativa data har samlats in genom en attitydundersökning som utförts genom en enkätundersökning. Kvalitativa data har samlats in som komplement till denna enkätundersökning genom 13 stycken telefonintervjuer. Material har därutöver insamlats genom litteratur och vetenskapliga artiklar. Slutsats: Studien påvisar att sex timmars arbetsdag tenderar att ge personal många positiva vinster i form av förbättrad livskvalitet genom att respondenternas egendefinierande hälsa blivit bättre efter sex timmars arbetsdag infördes. För denna studie dras slutsatsen att majoriteten av respondenterna i denna undersökningen har en positiv upplevelse gentemot sex timmars arbetsdag.

    The destination image of a certain place is interfering the decision-making process of tourists. The information sources for the image are formed by different stakeholders. Due to the fact that not only the DMO of a certain destination promotes the image of the place, but also external stakeholders like the cruise line companies, the following research focuses on the induced destination image of the port destination Hamburg. Withthe help of a content analysis,the websites of the DMO of Hamburg and the relevant cruise operator have been analysed regarding the promotion of the destination image. While the cruise line industry has a specific focus on sightseeing and shopping, the DMO of Hamburg promotes the diversity of the city. However, the two induced destination images are mainly similar and only have small differences. Hence, there is one promoted destination image of Hamburg for two stakeholder groups: the DMO of the destination and the cruise industry. However, it is important to know the reality of this image.

    Abstract [en]

    Food has become one of the most important elements used in the marketing of destinations. This study analyzes the representation of the Swedish food in the promotional material in food tourism of Try Swedish project, as well as Jämtland and Väst Sverige regional promotion. The focus of the research is on the main elements represented in the chosen sample of the marketing material, its purpose and audience to which the material is addressed. The content analysis explores the qualitative data of Try Swedish, Jämtland and West Sweden websites and information received through the interviews with three representatives of these webpages, involved in promotion of Swedish food to tourists. The qualitative data collected through semi-structured interviews and content analysis provides inside look into the members´ experience in marketing of Swedish food, as well as the outsiders’ analytical view upon the representational material. The findings of this research demonstrate what has been achieved in the food promotion of Sweden so far and what needs improvement and special attention in order to achieve a status of "Sweden – a new culinary nation" according to the Ministry of Rural Affair vision.

    denna studie undersöks vilka upplevda effekter avtalsformen förtroendearbetstid har på den

    enskilda individens välmående och dess balans mellan privat- och arbetsliv. Studien granskar

    även om personalansvar har betydelse för individens upplevelse av avtalsformen. En kvalitativ

    ansats har tillämpats för att ha möjlighet att skapa en djupare förståelse gällande individers

    upplevelse kring avtalsformen.

    I studien intervjuades sex stycken individer med avtalsformen förtroendearbetstid, varav tre av

    dessa innehar personalansvar. Resultatet visar att samtliga respondenter idag ställer sig positiva

    till förtroendearbetstid då avtalsformen skapar flexibilitet och således gynnar deras balans

    mellan privat- och arbetsliv. Däremot visar studien att gränsdragning mellan dessa sfärer inte

    alltid varit enkel vilket under tidigare perioder resulterat i stress och minskad återhämtning.

    Resultatet påvisar ingen större skillnad mellan de två urvalsgrupperna förutom att individerna

    som innehar personalansvar har större möjlighet att styra sin arbetstid.

    Teorier som används för att analysera materialet är bland annat krav, kontroll- och

    stödmodellen (Karasek & Theorell, 1990) samt Work life balance (Greenhaus, Collins & Shaw,

    2003). Socialt stöd och vilka förväntningar organisation och kollegor har på individen är något

    som framkommit som betydande för individens upplevelse av förtroendearbetstid. Även

    individens personlighet samt erfarenhet av förtroendearbetstid har visat sig ha stor betydelse

    för hur personen hanterar och påverkas av avtalsformen.

    Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka vad den höga långtidssjukfrånvaron beror på inom en kommuns omvårdnadsförvaltnings hemtjänst och vård- och omsorgsboende. Syftet är också att undersöka hur denna målgrupp upplever den psykosociala arbetsmiljön. Dessutom kommer förbättringsförslag att framföras utifrån undersökningsresultaten, för eventuella åtgärder till kommunens omvårdnadsförvaltning. Undersökningen utgår från en hermeneutisk kunskapssyn med en kvalitativ forskningsmetod. Åtta semistrukturerade intervjuer med sjukskrivna eller tidigare sjukskrivna undersköterskor och vårdbiträden på kommunens omvårdnadsförvaltning har genomförts. Av undersökningen framgår att kombinationer av ett flertal belastningsfaktorer i den psykosociala arbetsmiljön har lett till att sex av respondenterna drabbats av negativ stress och senare utmattningssyndrom. Detta kan konstateras ligga till grund för deras sjukskrivningar. Belastningsfaktorerna som framkommit i undersökningen är exempelvis hög arbetsbelastning, brist på återhämtning, hög personalomsättning, avsaknad av stöd från ledare och ett upplevt lågt inflytande i organisationen. Dessa belastningsfaktorer har framkallat känslor av frustation, otillräcklighet och tidspress. Tidigare forskning redovisar också att brister i faktorer som dessa kan orsaka negativ stress och utmattningssyndrom. Utifrån de framkomna belastningsfaktorerna prestenteras förbättringsförslag till kommunens omvårdnadsförvaltning.

    Kartläggningen visar att samarbetet mellan olika kvinnojourer är under utveckling men att inte alla jourer är bemannade dagtid med avlönad personal. Dessa jourer är beroende av personal som arbetar på ideell basis. Därmed finns inte möjlighet till likvärdiga stöd- och hjälpformer i alla Dalarnas kommuner. Inte alla kvinno-jourer uppfattar heller att deras verksamhet anses som betydelsefull av ledande poli-tiker och tjänstemän. Socialsekreterarna beskriver ett väl fungerande samarbete med kvinnojourerna, något som också motsvaras av den bild personal- och frivilligarbetare på kvinnojourerna ger. Däremot upplever kvinnojourerna ett stort problem i den ekonomiska osäkerhet som präglar verksamheten och som i praktiken innebär att antalet anställda kan variera år från år. Detta bidrar bl.a. till att arbetet med att utveckla verksamheten försvåras. Det råder också periodvis platsbrist på kvinnojourerna. I de flesta fall löses detta ge-nom det kontaktnät som personalen/frivilligarbetarna på kvinnojourerna har och de hjälpsökande kvinnorna kan då beredas plats på en annan kvinnojour. Det får dock anses som otillfredsställande att kvinnor i behov av stöd inte med säkerhet kan er-bjudas hjälp sitt närområde. Det finns tillfällen när kvinnan, kanske på grund av en särskilt allvarlig hotbild, behöver komma till en kvinnojour på stort avstånd från hemorten, men det är ett annat problem. De brister i kunskaper och kompetens av generell karaktär som här formuleras stämmer väl överens med den problembild som finns i landet i övrigt. Kvinnofridsproblematiken är ett mycket skambelagt område. Många kvinnor polisanmäler inte kvinnofridsbrott och det stora mörkertalet, tillsammans med den skam kvinnor upplever, gör att många kvinnors och barns utsatthet aldrig blir känd utanför den egna familjekretsen. Många misshandlade kvinnor utvecklar också olika strategier för att dölja sin situation. Det gör att professionella som möter dessa kvinnor kan ha har svårt att upptäcka de ibland mycket subtila tecken som kan finnas på att de befinner sig i en misshandelsrelation. Till detta kommer att myndigheter och organisationer ofta har begränsade möjligheter att på ett konkret och mer långsiktigt sätt erbjuda hjälp och stöd. I kartläggningen såväl som i forskning framkommer att dessa förhållanden tenderar leda fram till en situation där den personal som möter dessa kvinnor undviker att ställa frågor, även om de har misstankar om att kvinnan blivit misshandlad. Ett mer eller mindre medvetet samspel mellan den misshandlade kvinnan och olika yrkesföreträdare kan uppstå som innebär att misshandeln förblir dold och att en ytterst kom-plex samhällsproblematik kan fortsätta att föra en till stor del undanskymd tillvaro.

    Background. It has been stated that there is too little research on what constitutes good communication and good encounters in nursing homes.

    Aim and objectives. The aim of the present study was to examine nursing staff members’ views on what is important in caring encounters with older people living in nursing homes.

    Design. A qualitative descriptive study using focus group interviews with staff in a nursing home in Sweden.

    Method. Focus group interviews, analysed using qualitative content analysis.

    Results. Three main themes emerged describing nursing staff members’ opinions about the content of good encounters: ‘Caring encounters from the perspective of equality’, ‘Caring encounters from the perspective of integrity’ and ‘Caring encounters from the perspective of promoting security’.

    Conclusions. The nursing staff had theoretical knowledge of what constitutes a good caring encounter, but they seemed to need more supervision and training to develop their ways of encountering older people as well as to become stronger in their professional role. When performing such training with staff, the methodology of appreciative inquiry could be a powerful tool.

    Relevance to clinical practice. It is important to help staff become empowered and to help them develop and improve their encounters with older care recipients.

    Abstract [en]

    Industrial heritage tourism has been in focus for many academic studies and tourism is an alternative developmental tool for mines and contributes to their economic success. This thesis is about the Falu Mine in Dalarna, Sweden, which has World Heritage status since 2001 and is one of the biggest attractions in the region. Its history and cultural importance are reasons for the importance of preserving the heritage. The Falu Mine is under the management of the Great Copper Mountain Trust and one of their ambitions is to ensure the continuous popularity among domestic and international visitors. In order to gain a better understanding of the visitors and to find strategies to improve performance, a visitor survey has been conducted in the summer of 2011. It is the authors believe that the guides of the Falu Mine have the best available insight and that their perceptions help to add to the understanding about the visitors. Therefore, this thesis aims to explore the perceptions of the guides about their visitors, to investigate how the perceptions correspond to the statistical results and to study if there are any differences between domestic and international visitors. The mixed methods approach will increase the depth and accuracy of the results, by linking qualitative with quantitative data. The results show that differences between domestic and international visitors exist, both proven by interviews with the guides and the visitor survey. These differences occur in the factors, such as level of education of the visitors, group size and number of children in the group, knowledge of the visitors prior to and after the visit, sources of information and the fulfillment of the visitor expectations. The perceptions emphasize how these differences impact the guided tours. The guides of the Falu Mine have to be aware of those differences in order to adjust the tour accordingly, as well as the management of the Falu Mine can use this knowledge in order to identify strategies for improving performance.

    Abstract [en]

    A diesel particulate filter (DPF) is designed to physically remove diesel particulate matter or soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine. Frequently replacing DPF is a waste of resource and waiting for full utilization is risky and very costly, so, what is the optimal time/milage to change DPF? Answering this question is very difficult without knowing when the DPF is changed in a vehicle.

    We are finding the answer with supervised machine learning algorithms for detecting anomalies in vehicles off-board sensor data (operational data of vehicles). Filter change is considered an anomaly because it is rare as compared to normal data.

    Non-sequential machine learning algorithms for anomaly detection like oneclass support vector machine (OC-SVM), k-nearest neighbor (K-NN), and random forest (RF) are applied for the first time on DPF dataset. The dataset is unbalanced, and accuracy is found misleading as a performance measure for the algorithms. Precision, recall, and F1-score are found good measure for the performance of the machine learning algorithms when the data is unbalanced. RF gave highest F1-score of 0.55 than K-NN (0.52) and OCSVM (0.51). It means that RF perform better than K-NN and OC-SVM but after further investigation it is concluded that the results are not satisfactory. However, a sequential approach should have been tried which could yield better result.

    The overall quality of life increases by participation in leisure activities. The accessibility of

    destinations is crucial in order for everyone to have equal opportunity to experience them.

    Approximately 560 thousand people in Sweden have some form of physical disability. As a

    result they may require different types of assistance or aid to manage everyday life, which

    includes recreational activities. Everyone has the right to enjoy the nature and Sweden has a

    large number of national parks and national reserves. In many cases, the accessibility to these

    destinations is limited for people with physical impairments or disabilities. Stockholm

    archipelago is the largest one in Sweden with a great variety of natural- and cultural values.

    This area attracts a high number of tourists, especially during the summer season. Therefore,

    have the authors aimed this thesis to study how Swedish organizations operating within

    tourism for disabled are working to improve the accessibility for people with physical

    disabilities in Stockholm archipelago. To collect the data seven in-depth interviews were

    conducted with organizations who are working with accessibility and tourism for people with

    physical disabilities and have adequate knowledge regarding the topic. The results of the study

    indicate that the progress towards an accessible archipelago had a promising start. However,

    the development is slow and there is still much need for improvement. A lot of consideration

    needs to be taken when planning for improved accessibility and four main areas of importance

    were discovered.

    The use of social media has during the last couple of years increased and is now a

    major part of most of the organizations marketing strategies. But how does this fit

    with the Employer Branding strategies? And how does this affect the

    organizational attractiveness as an employer? These were two of the questions we

    wanted to examine and analyze. In order to answer these questions, we conducted

    interviews with six different companies divided into 3 subgroups. The intention of

    this was to get a wider perspective of how the implementation of social media in

    the Employer Branding could work. And could this change the recruitment

    process?

    What we could see afterwards is that more time is spent on taking references

    online through social media sites. Some say it is more honest than the traditional

    references that the candidate got to choose. Other conclusions that we could find

    was that it is important to use social media in todays market but it is crucial to use

    it in a proper way. Companies must form a strategy based on their Employee

    Value Proposition in order to reach the wanted receivers using social media. It is

    also important that the Employee Value Proposition is based on the companies’

    corporate values.

    Strategies to maximise the economic and social benefits of a sport tourism event: Case study of Vasaloppet, Sweden2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 poäng / 15 hpOppgave

    Although the impacts and benefits of sport tourism events have already been sufficiently researched, knowledge about the strategies and tactics needed to be undertaken in order to maximize these benefits of sport tourism events is limited. This paper aims to investigate the leveraging strategies applied by different stakeholders at Vasaloppet, a cross-country ski event in Dalarna, Sweden. These stakeholders were chosen strategically and implied local businesses, the organization of Vasaloppet, the tourism offices, a sponsor of Vasaloppet and the municipality. In order to analyze and evaluate the strategies undertaken, Chalip´s models of general and social leveraging of sport events are adopted as a theoretical framework (Chalip 2004; Chalip 2006).

    The research is exploratory, aiming to determine and evaluate the strategies undertaken by different stakeholders in order to increase the economic and social benefits of Vasaloppet. The research methods will be qualitative, investigating the perception and success of measures undertaken by different stakeholders in order to enhance the benefits of the event.

    Twelve semi-structured interviews were conducted with the result, that although not being familiar with the models, the different stakeholders of Vasaloppet were undertaking several leveraging strategies. Nevertheless, not all parts of the model could be applied to Vasaloppet due to the fact that it was developed for mega-events as well as that Vasaloppet has some specific characteristics that did not fit with the models. There were solely a few measures undertaken to promote the destination through event advertising, due to the fact, that the brand Vasaloppet is connected with Dalarna as a region in such a high extent that it does not need to be advertised explicitly, at least in the opinion of the majority of participants.

    However, Vasaloppet was efficient in providing business relationships and in integrating local businesses, although it could be observed that this did not count for all local businesses. Regarding the social benefits, Vasaloppet succeeded to integrate the local population and generate a feeling of community, however an overall theming strategy was not applied and the possibilities for socializing could be improved.     Under senare år har frågan om ett hållbart arbetsliv blivit allt viktigare. Det innebär att goda arbetsförhållanden kommer att bidra till att människor orkar arbeta fram till pensionen. Friskvård har gått från att enbart vara en förmån till att bli en investering för att främja hälsa. Anställdas hälsa och arbetsmiljö är en del av personalfunktionens övergripande arbete för att behålla personal. Fysiskt krävande yrken som omsorgsarbete är ett stort arbetsmiljöproblem som kräver att organisationer försöker förhindra att arbetsrelaterad sjukdom inträffar. Syftet med detta examensarbete är att undersöka vilka förutsättningarna, ur ett medarbetarperspektiv, organisationer bör ta i beaktande för att skapa ett framgångsrikt arbete med hälsofrämjande friskvårdsaktiviteter inom kommunal vård- och omsorgsförvaltning. Arbetet är begränsat till personal inom Ludvika kommun. Friskvård kan förebygga sjukdom, men det kan också öka individens välbefinnande och kan därmed utgöra en framgångsrik strategi för att skapa hälsosammare arbetsplatser. En kombination av metoder användes för datainsamling, i form av en kvantitativ enkätundersökning och en kvalitativ fokusgruppintervju. Resultaten visade bland annat att majoriteten av de anställda är positiva till friskvård på arbetstid och att det är ett fördelaktigt sätt att öka deltagandet, även för dem som är mindre fysiskt aktiva. Tidsbrist och socialt stöd är skäl till varför fysisk aktivitet är lägre eller uteblir. Förutom att de anställda som har ett individuellt ansvar är det chefer, i samråd med organisationen, som har det övergripande ansvaret för att skapa goda förutsättningar för att främja hälsan.

    Syftet med den här studien är att undersöka om de rätta förutsättningarna finns för att bedriva ett hållbart ledarskap, samt att undersöka hur cheferna på det aktuella företaget ser på sin psykosociala arbetsmiljö.

    För att undersöka syftet har en kvalitativ metod använts, där intervjuer utgjorde metoden för datainsamlingen. Intervjuerna genomfördes med hjälp av en semistrukturerad intervjuguide, intervjuerna transkriberades sedan för att underlätta analysarbetet.

    Vad innebär det för ledarna i organisationerna att arbeta med hållbart ledarskap? Genom ledarskapets påverkan på motivation, engagemang och prestation har det stor betydelse för de utvecklingsarbeten som syftar till hållbarhet. En chef ska förutom sina vardagliga arbetsuppgifter såsom att säkerställa driften, se till att personal finns på plats och gå på möten även ansvara för att medarbetarna trivs på sin arbetsplats och har en bra arbetsmiljö. Kraven på dagens chefer och ledare blir allt fler, men har de den kunskap och de verktyg de behöver för att kunna bedriva ett hållbart ledarskap?

    Resultaten som framkommit visar på att respondenterna inom den organisation jag besökt till viss del arbetar på ett hållbart sätt, utan att de själva är medvetna om det. Problemområden som respondenterna identifierar är tidsbrist, stress, hög arbetsbelastning och utbrändhet.

    Abstract [en]

    The aim of this article is to discuss the potential of an educative research intervention to influence the quality of the learning outcome in the workplace as interpreted from the perspectives of adult learning theory. The research project was designed as a quasiexperimental, mixed-methods study. In this article, quantitative survey data were taken as the point of departure, and qualitative data were used for the purpose of analyzing aspects of learning. An educative research intervention may support a transformative learning quality when the manager and employees have to deal with severe difficulties, and they succeed in doing so by sharing responsibilities and having the strength to engage in the development process in the workplace. It is possible to support transformative learning in the workplace through an educative research intervention that encourages managers to educate themselves and their employees to think and act in new ways, aiming at integrated autonomy, increased interaction, and learning.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this study is to investigate why victimization occurs in organizations and to create an understanding for how working groups perceive faktaundersökning (a Norwegian investigation method for victimization). The method used is a qualitative interview study in which three investigators and three clients of the investigation method faktaundersökning were individually interviewed. Three reports from the investigations has also been analysed and later used in the result. Four different cases in three different organizations has been investigated for this study in total. The study shows that all organizations had an insufficient working environment with multiple factors that were the underlying cause of the emerge of victimization, bullying and conflicts. These factors were later able to be categorized as; communication, leadership and roles, organizational structure and culture, policies, understanding and values. The study thus showed that the individuals who performed the negative interpersonal actions were the result of an insufficient organizational and social work environment. Furthermore, the study showed that the respondents experienced the faktaundersökning as dry, direct and hard to go through for both the different parties, but also the working groups and the organizations. The study showed that it is important that all parties are offered emotional support as soon as possible in order for the parties to feel fairly treated and thus become more willing to cooperate in the investigations. According to the respondents, trust and impartiality between investigators and the parties were an important aspect for the investigation to generate in such a true result as possible, where the right of reply plays a crucial role in the legal certainty of the investigation.

    Abstract [en]

    The presented study investigates how rural tourism destinations can benefit from a mega sport event that is hosted in a city nearby. This is done by examining the case study of Camp Norway, an initiative of the municipality of Rättvik, which was hosted during the FIS Nordic Ski World Championship in Falun 2015. For this purpose semi-structured interviews were conducted with several key stakeholders and members of the steering committee of the project. The research aimed to answer what the concept was actually about, what the stakeholders expected, how they collaborated and how they evaluate the project. It was explored that a main intention of the project was to bring the tourism stakeholders of the municipality together and thus enhance their collaboration for the future. Although the expectations concerning visitor numbers and economic benefits were too high and have not been met, the overall concept evaluation is still very positive. This is due to the fact that the actors have recognised the importance of close stakeholder collaborations especially in the rural tourism industry and have successfully established a common ground for future projects in Rättvik. The case of Camp Norway can be taken as an example also for other rural tourism destinations, how to improve local stakeholder collaboration by innovatively benefitting from nearby events.

    Abstract [en]

    The present paper constitutes a review of the results of a study concerning cultural tourism conducted on a group of students from selected higher education institutions in Bialystok. The aim of this paper is to analyze young tourists' preferences in Podlasie's region in terms of cultural tourism: their choice of activities and attractions, as well as trip related characteristics in contrast to the preferences of young non-cultural tourists. Quantitative research approach has been applied in the study in order to meet the objective of this paper, as the quantitative methods allow to summarize vast sources of information and facilitate comparisons across categories and over time (Kruger, 2003, p.18-19). An online survey was used as a technique to carry out the research. The main results indicate that students, as cultural tourists, prefer a variety of activities (both cultural and non-cultural) in diverse locations and do not limit themselves to any dominant attractions. The work has its value within the cultural tourism literature, as it discusses the potential of the tourist youth market in the developing rural area of post-communist country, Poland. The paper offers suggestions on a more in-depth further research.

    This thesis work investigates the response of China’s SME travel agencies to the growth of

    the sharing economy in travel and tourism services, with the aim to formulate practical

    recommendations for industry insiders. Through in-depth interviews conducted in the city of

    Shanghai, the thesis produces an outline of how the SME travel agencies perceive sharing

    economy in Chinese context. The aspects of business performance are studied for both

    incumbent travel agencies and those emerging sharing start-ups. The key concepts of sharing

    economy are focused and used to examine the sharable potential of SME travel agencies in

    order to achieve the aim of this thesis. It is revealed that SME travel agencies in Shanghai

    have adopted various new practices in response to market changes. It appears that the gradual

    development of their proactive “collaborative activities” interprets the tenets propagated by

    the sharing economy advocates. As sharing propensity becomes formidable, it is

    recommended that SME travel agencies should focus in line with key principles of the

    sharing economy on sharable potential in their products, distribution channels and sales

    personnel.

    While China has become one of the larger tourism destination regions in the recent years, allindications point to China establishing itself as the biggest tourist outbound market in the nearfuture. As such, numerous countries prepare to attract more Chinese travelers with a higherspending power in order to sustain or extend the current level of tourism related income. Forpotential European destinations, it is therefore essential to understand the travel motivations aswell as the obstacles Chinese travelers face when considering Europe as a travel destination.Therefore, the aim of this research is to contribute to the understanding of the Chinese outboundtourism market towards European destinations. This was achieved by analyzing the impacts oftravel obstacles and the push and pull factors of Chinese travelers. This analysis has been basedupon the development of the travel flows in the past 10 years, in terms of tourist numbers, and isexplained by economic, political and social factors (i.e. push and pull).The method used within this research consists of quantitative secondary data. The data isrecorded from the World Tourism Organization statistics and re-analyzed using the LocationQuotient.While in the past much of the outbound tourism was concentrated in several countries the resultsindicate that destination choices vary more and more while all countries in this study recorded anincrease in Chinese tourists. The analyzing-results also indicated that with the rise of the Chineseeconomy, the number of outbound tourists will relatively rise. Moreover, the findings indicatethat the flow of outbound tourists from China has risen, also owing to relaxation of major staterestrictions and change of intervening obstacles.After analysing the situation of tourism market [during the past decade] between Europe andChina, the authors are able to comment about the future trends. Furthermore, suggestions forfuture investigation are presented.

    Government vs Market in Sustainable Residential Development?: Microdata analysis of car travel, CO2 emission and residence location2017Doktoravhandling, med artikler (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [en]

    Increasing car usage and travel demands between residential locations and destinations in order to fulfill the various needs of residents is a primary cause of CO2 emissions. To win the battle against climate change, a better understanding of the question relating to which urban residential form may most effectively mitigate the CO2 emissions is the key pathway.

    This dissertation is concerned with the above problem and it mainly considers three objectives in providing insights on answering the question. The first objective is to comprehensively and microscopically understand intra-urban car travel behavior. The second objective is to estimate the induced CO2 emissions from daily intra-urban car travel and to ex-ante evaluate residential plans. The third objective is to assess whether the governmental sustainable residential development objective is aligned with the objectives of the estate market actors. To explore the research questions related to the objectives, a microdata analysis process (data collection, data assessment and transformation, data storage, data analysis and decision-making) is applied and is found essential in gaining access to key variables in exploring the answer of a preferable urban form. The dissertation offers many new solutions to various technical aspects through a microdata analysis process.

    The primary contribution of this dissertation is that it outlines an operational model that comprehensively integrates the investors’ investment strategy, the residents’ choice behavior, and the governmental sustainability objective in the interest of making an ex-ante assessment of residential plans. This ex-ante assessment provides decision-support in sustainable residential development at foremost local level.

    The first finding from the implementation of the model on the case study is that the market actors’ objectives are, in general, aligned with the government’s sustainable residential development objective. The second finding indicates that re-shaping the urban form into a compact city is preferable in mitigating CO2 emissions, in spite of the fact that the case city is of a polycentric urban form. These findings provide support for those advocating the compact city as the ideal for sustainable residential development, and also provide foresight on settling the answer to the preferred re-shaping of urban forms in climate change.

    Abstract [en]

    The article originates from research in interaction between researchers and companies in a network, which has led to an increasing awareness among managers on issues such as reasons behind difficulties in attracting competent labor. Particularly, attention has been directed toward the importance of work environment improvements that increase the attractivity of industrial work. To deal with such challenges, for more than 5 years a number of small engineering companies, with research support, have been engaged in change processes based on the concept of attractive work. The purpose of the article is to develop knowledge and understanding for how small engineering companies can create more attractive work. One goal is to make it possible to draw conclusions about the employees’ experiences of changes in the attractivity of industrial work. Efforts in this direction have been conducted through work environment assessments (before and after the changes) and through administration of a questionnaire. The results show that it is possible to analyze how employees experience changes in the attractivity of work. This is most interesting from the perspective that the results can be used for assisting further improvements.
