Tillgång och eftertanke: Om tillgänglighetens påverkan på upplevelsen av musik2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Recept för konflikt: En fallstudie av musikläggningen i realityserien KitchenNightmares2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Instrumentering, narrativa

    Abstract [en]

Voice control is a technology that most people encounter or use on a daily basis. The voice control technology can be used to interpret voice commands and execute tasks based on the command pronounced. According to previous studies problems arise with the precision when the voice control technologies are used in noisy environments. This study has been conducted as an experiment where the precision in two voice control frameworks for Android has been examined. The purpose with this study is to examine the precision in these two frameworks to assist a decision making for an organisation who has developed an application which will be used by midwives in low and middle income countries. Two prototypes was developed using the two voice control frameworks PocketSphinx and iSpeech. The precision of these frameworks was tested in three different surroundings. The surroundings the frameworks was tested in had the decibel levels 25, 60, and 80. The result shows that the number of correctly registered voice commands reduces considerably depending on which sound level the frameworks are being tested in. The framework who got the most voice commands correctly registered was PocketSphinx, but even this framework had a big margin of error.

Development of Dynamic Intelligent Risk Management Approach2019In: Proceedings of 3rd International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Applications, IEEE, 2019, p. 128-132, article id 8711543Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

A dynamic Risk Management (RM) provides monitoring, recognition, assessment, and follow-up action to reduce the risk whenever it rises. The main problem with dynamic RM (when applied to plan for, how the unknown risk in unexpected conditions should be addressed in information systems) is to design an especial control to recover/avoid of risks/attacks that is proposed in this research. The methodology, called Dynamic Intelligent RM (DIRM) is comprised of four phases which are interactively linked; (1) Aggregation of data and information (2) Risk identification (3) RM using an optional control and (4) RM using an especial control. This study, therefore, investigated the use of artificial neural networks to improve risk identification via adaptive neural fuzzy interface systems and control specification using learning vector quantization. Further experimental investigations are needed to estimate the results of DIRM toward unexpected conditions in the real environment.

Delone and McLean IS success model for evaluating knowledge sharing2019Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

It is generally agreed upon that Knowledge Sharing (KS) is an effective process within organizational settings. It is also the corner-stone of many firm’s Knowledge Management (KM) Strategy. Despite the growing significance of KS for organization’s competitiveness and performance, analyzing the level of KS make it difficult for KM to achieve the optimum level of KS. Because of these causes, this study attempts to develop a conceptual model based on one of the IS Theories that is determined as the best model for evaluating the level of KS. In other words, it is Delone and McLean IS Success model that is presented according to the Communication Theory and it covers various perspectives of assessing Information Systems (IS). Hence, these dimensions cause it to be a multidimensional measuring model that could be a suitable model for realizing the level of KS.

Utveckling av prototyperför en mobilapplikationavsedd förriskbedömning2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This examination was carried out at the steel mill Ovako, specifically the production site Ovako Hofors. This production site has requested a mobile application for risk assessment of their maintenance work. Currently the risk assessments are carried out on regular paper forms which contain checklists. Risk assessment is a way to identify hazards in a work environment. Ovako expects an implementation of a mobile application to result in a faster risk assessment. The purpose of the thesis was to investigate how digitization of risk assessment can be made useable to contribute to efficiency regarding the risk assessment process. The thesis applied a combination of the research strategies Design & Creation and case study. Design & Creation is focused on the creation of IT products called artefacts while case study is about the study of individual cases. The examination involved development of prototype mobile applications. The prototypes underwent tests of their usability by measuring aspects such as efficiency and satisfaction. Another part of the thesis was also to survey the risk management process at the production site and identify time-consuming steps that may be in need of change. The results showed that the paper forms are faster to fill out, in comparison to the prototypes. The tests also showed that some of the users are unfamiliar with the use of smartphones and therefore experienced difficulties. There is however potential for improvement by including functions in order to contribute to a more effective solution. The administration of the paper forms has been identified as the most time-consuming step in the risk management process and thus needs reworked work practices.

PokerMapper: mapping executive functions, poker playing ability and responsible gambling in online environments2015Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Research objectives

Poker and responsible gambling both entail the use of the executive functions (EF), which are higher-level cognitive abilities. The main objective of this work was to assess if online poker players of different ability show different performances in their EF and if so, which functions are the most discriminating ones. The secondary objective was to assess if the EF performance can predict the quality of gambling, according to the Gambling Related Cognition Scale (GRCS), the South Oaks Gambling Screen (SOGS) and the Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI).

    Sample and methods

The study design consisted of two stages: 46 Italian active players (41m, 5f; age 32±7,1ys; education 14,8±3ys) fulfilled the PGSI in a secure IT web system and uploaded their own hand history files, which were anonymized and then evaluated by two poker experts. 36 of these players (31m, 5f; age 33±7,3ys; education 15±3ys) accepted to take part in the second stage: the administration of an extensive neuropsychological test battery by a blinded trained professional. To answer the main research question we collected all final and intermediate scores of the EF tests on each player together with the scoring on the playing ability. To answer the secondary research question, we referred to GRCS, PGSI and SOGS scores.  We determined which variables that are good predictors of the playing ability score using statistical techniques able to deal with many regressors and few observations (LASSO, best subset algorithms and CART). In this context information criteria and cross-validation errors play a key role for the selection of the relevant regressors, while significance testing and goodness-of-fit measures can lead to wrong conclusions.

    Preliminary findings

We found significant predictors of the poker ability score in various tests. In particular, there are good predictors 1) in some Wisconsin Card Sorting Test items that measure flexibility in choosing strategy of problem-solving, strategic planning, modulating impulsive responding, goal setting and self-monitoring, 2) in those Cognitive Estimates Test variables related to deductive reasoning, problem solving, development of an appropriate strategy and self-monitoring, 3) in the Emotional Quotient Inventory Short (EQ-i:S) Stress Management score, composed by the Stress Tolerance and Impulse Control scores, and in the Interpersonal score (Empathy, Social Responsibility, Interpersonal Relationship). As for the quality of gambling, some EQ-i:S scales scores provide the best predictors: General Mood for the PGSI; Intrapersonal (Self-Regard; Emotional Self-Awareness, Assertiveness, Independence, Self-Actualization) and Adaptability  (Reality Testing, Flexibility, Problem Solving) for the SOGS, Adaptability for the GRCS.

    Implications for the field

Through PokerMapper we gathered knowledge and evaluated the feasibility of the construction of short tasks/card games in online poker environments for profiling users’ executive functions. These card games will be part of an IT system able to dynamically profile EF and provide players with a feedback on their expected performance and ability to gamble responsibly in that particular moment. The implementation of such system in existing gambling platforms could lead to an effective proactive tool for supporting responsible gambling.

Profiling online poker players: Are executive functions correlated with poker ability and problem gambling?2018In: Journal of Gambling Studies, ISSN 1050-5350, E-ISSN 1573-3602, Vol. 34, no 3, p. 823-851Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Poker playing and responsible gambling both entail the use of the executive functions (EF), which are higher-level cognitive abilities. This study investigated if online poker players of different ability showed different performances in their EF and if so, which functions were the most discriminating for their playing ability. Furthermore, it assessed if the EF performance was correlated to the quality of gambling, according to self-reported questionnaires (PGSI, SOGS, GRCS). Three poker experts evaluated anonymized poker hand history files and, then, a trained professional administered an extensive neuropsychological test battery. Data analysis determined which variables of the tests correlated with poker ability and gambling quality scores. The highest correlations between EF test results and poker ability and between EF test results and gambling quality assessment showed that mostly different clusters of executive functions characterize the profile of the strong(er) poker player and those ones of the problem gamblers (PGSI and SOGS) and the one of the cognitions related to gambling (GRCS). Taking into consideration only the variables overlapping between PGSI and SOGS, we found some key predictive factors for a more risky and harmful online poker playing: a lower performance in the emotional intelligence competences (Emotional Quotient inventory Short) and, in particular, those grouped in the Intrapersonal scale (emotional self-awareness, assertiveness, self-regard, independence and self-actualization).

    Abstract [en]

In information technology (IT) design it is essential to develop rich and nuanced understandings of messy design realities. In this chapter Karen Barad’s agential realism is used as an analytical approach in order to obtain such a multifaceted understanding of a local IT design project. The purpose of the paper is to explore entanglements of agency, mutual learning, and gender in a business process analysis. The main argument here is that these issues were inextricably intertwined with each other and with the sociomaterial relations of which they were part. All empirical material used in the chapter was collected with the help of ethnographic methods. Finally the chapter concludes with a discussion about agential realism as an analytical approach.

Sitting on the fence: critical explorations of participatory practices in IT design2010Doctoral thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This thesis is about participation in IT design. The problem background that I have outlined is that information technologies have far reaching consequences for societies and for individuals, and that the design of information technologies is one among many practices that shape the world in which we live. From a democratic point of view it is crucial that also women should be involved in these reality producing practices. In relation to this there are at least two stories about women’s participation in IT design; one about their absence from IT design, and one about their inclusion therein. Based on this problem background the purpose of my research is to critically explore participatory IT design practices, with a special focus on gender, power and knowledge. In order to fulfil the purpose I have three research questions: Who participated in the IT design practices? How did knowledge come into being in these practices? How was responsibility enacted?

My frame of reference is based on two research fields. One is Participatory Design (PD) with its focus on practitioners as co-designers in IT design practices, and the other is feminist technoscience which focuses on theories, methods, approaches, knowledge processes, and gender in technoscience practices. These two frameworks shares an interest in power relations and democratic participation in IT design. My empirical material was gathered with the help of ethnographic methods, and comes from a large IT design project in a Swedish government agency. The project was an eGovernment project, and a central objective was to rationalise the business. My focus was some (women) administrative officers who participated as business process analysts. This material was analysed with the help of feminist technoscience methodologies, foremost agential realism and diffraction.

My thesis is based on five research papers, and the results of these are discussed and related to the research questions and the purpose. Based on an expanded notion of IT design and of participation in IT design, I argue that the administrative officers in the IT design project participated as central actors in the project. These administrative officers were able to participate within the context provided by various entangled sociomaterial practices, such as the project method, boundaries between business and IT, gendered divisions of labour, eGovernment, rationalisation, the project objectives, and an innovation practice. I also argue that in the project knowledge did not simply exist, but came into being as a result of entanglements of these sociomaterial practices, foremost the project objectives and the method. As a result of the reconfigured knowledge the administrative officers were removed to the periphery of the project. An additional argument is that with participation comes responsibility, and that responsibility is related to agency. Responsibility was enacted in and as a result of entangled sociomaterial practices. In this project the administrative officers were given and took a lot of responsibility within the boundaries provided by the sociomaterial practices, but they also worked to widen their agency and thus extend their responsibilities in the project. In relation to gender my argument is that the administrative officers in the project – who were women – participated as central actors, but they were also marginalised and made invisible. Thus in this IT design project women were included as central actors.

As one of my contributions to PD and to feminist technoscience I want to underscore the importance of sociomaterial practices in IT design, such as IT design methods, and project objectives. These may act to restrict actors’ possibilities to act and to exert influence. Another is that knowledge in IT design practices come into being and are reconfigured as a consequence of intra-acting sociomaterial practices. Reconfigurations of knowledge might shift the power balance among actors in IT design projects and marginalise previously central actors. Responsibility too comes into being, or is enacted, in entangled sociomaterial practices. Furthermore responsibility in IT design is closely related to agency and participation, and widened agency might lead to extended possibilities to take responsibility. Additionally if positions in IT design are understood as fixed, they might make invisible more shifting and intricate professional relations and activities, and once these become visible, more women may become visible as central actors in IT design. A further contribution is that an expanded notion of IT design and participation might make women visible as central participants in IT design and in eGovernment. However, also central participants may become marginalised, as happened in this project.

    Abstract [en]

In this paper we argue that it is not self-evident how 'requirements' are defined, but that 'requirements' are enacted differently by differently situated actors, and that this has consequences in design practices. The purpose of the paper is to explore the consequences of prototyping practices in a local IT design project. The empirical material was gathered through the use of ethnographic methods, and analysed diffractively. Graphical user interface prototypes were tools for formulating business requirements in a business process analysis. Through a reading of a discussion which took place in a work meeting about the prototypes, we discuss how business requirements were enacted. This is discussed in relation to divergent and convergent approaches in IT design. One consequence was a risk that the prototyping process moved too fast to solutions, and another was the risk that the business process analysis method reproduced the dominant story of women's absence in IT design.

"We do not talk about this" – Problematical silences in eGovernment2009In: Electronic Journal of e-Government, ISSN 1479-439X, E-ISSN 1479-439X, Vol. 7, no 3, p. 259-270Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The Swedish public sector is currently in a process of transformation, often referred to as eGovernment. In this paper stories are told of problematic silences in an eGovernment implementation project in a Swedish government agency. eGovernment is discussed as something that is articulated differently by a range of actors in various locations. This enables articulations of multiple eGovernment and the multiple articulations can also be a means to contest dominant and possibly problematic articulations of eGovernment. The dominant discourse of eGovernment is the rationalisation of the public sector as a means of saving public resources. The improvement of quality and availability of public services, and to improve democratic processes are central in the dominant discourse. In this discourse there is a silence about the dismissal of employees in the public sector. There is neither talk about how the public sector is an important labour market for women nor how the rationalisation will affect the employees. Employees’ knowledges are not considered as being a resource for strategic IT-planning, and thus they are not invited to participate in the further design of IT-systems. The purpose of the paper is to explore the participation of the administrative officers in an eGovernment implementation project, and the meanings of eGovernment articulated in the project. Ethnographic methods were used in the collection of empirical material, and central ideas in participatory design and feminist technoscience were used in the analysis. The main argument is that the administrative officers participated in an ambiguous way. They were central actors but were at the same time marginalised within the organisation. The ambiguity regarding how they participated is related to different and more inclusive articulations of eGovernment in the project. The paper is concluded with a discussion concerning how alternative articulations of eGovernment can offer alternatives to the dominant eGovernment discourse.

Sex och kön i film: En undersökning om det normaliserade filmsexet under 2000-talet2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Uppsatsen studerar hur sex skildras i Hollywoodfilmer ur drama- och romantikgenren under 2000-

talet.

    Abstract [en]

Bin planning (arrangements) is a key factor in the timber industry. Improper planning of the storage bins may lead to inefficient transportation of resources, which threaten the overall efficiency and thereby limit the profit margins of sawmills. To address this challenge, a simulation model has been developed. However, as numerous alternatives are available for arranging bins, simulating all possibilities will take an enormous amount of time and it is computationally infeasible. A discrete-event simulation model incorporating meta-heuristic algorithms has therefore been investigated in this study. Preliminary investigations indicate that the results achieved by GA based simulation model are promising and better than the other meta-heuristic algorithm. Further, a sensitivity analysis has been done on the GA based optimal arrangement which contributes to gaining insights and knowledge about the real system that ultimately leads to improved and enhanced efficiency in sawmill yards. It is expected that the results achieved in the work will support timber industries in making optimal decisions with respect to arrangement of storage bins in a sawmill yard.

Progressionen av bildkompositionsmetoden negative space av Hoyte Van Hoytemas filmfoto i filmen Her (2013)2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The main purpose of the essay was to find out the photographic composition negative space’s progression, in the cinematography of Her (2013), and correlation to the main character's emotional state. The result was analyzed with the help of a composition analysis, dramaturgical analysis and an emotional theory. Three photos from each dramaturgical act (nine in total) were chosen to establish and create a relation to the main character’s emotional state. The result shows that negative space functions as an important visual medium, through collaboration with other photographic composition methods, to create imbalance and unease, or symmetry and harmony for the main character in Her. When the main character is alone, sad or emotionally unstable, negative space shrinks and isolates him through vast space, whereas when he is happy and positive negative space (in collaboration with other compositions) leads the eye and focus directly to him. The progression of negative space also shows a distinctive affinity to the main character’s romantic relationship, which shows that the progression relates and depends on the romantic bond.

MVC och Redux effektivitet vid webbutveckling: En jämförelse mellan arkitekturstrukturerna MVC och Redux2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Over the last decade, web development has seen a tremendously high increase in its evolution. To assist with the high performance applications these days, developers are using architectural patterns. These architectural patterns focus on separating data, so that data management does not have consequences due to changes. Two of these architecture patterns are Model-View-Controller (MVC) and Redux. These two architectural patterns tackle the same problem in two different ways, MVC with its bi-directional flow and Redux with its unidirectional flow. The aim of this thesis has been to investigate and compare the two architectural patterns MVC and Redux, to find out which of these is the most effective. To gain knowledge of the subject a theoretical study of web-based sources and documentation has been made. The practical investigation has consisted of performing an experiment with a predetermined hypothesis with two prototypes against each other. One prototype is structured according to MVC guidelines and the other according to Redux guidelines. Two operations were performed to measure which prototype was the most efficient in terms of deleting and adding data in the prototypes, this was then iterated ten times to obtain the desired data flow in both prototypes. The result of the experiment was consistent with our predetermined hypothesis. The result of the experiment showed that the Redux prototype executed faster than the MVC prototype.

Filmarbetare reflekterar över sina arbetssituationer: En kvalitativ studie om problem och svårigheter i början av fyra filmarbetares karriärer2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

The  role of information systems in information management: Exploring the challenges in information sharing2009In: Proceedings of the IADIS International Conference on ICT, Society and Human Beings / [ed] Bradley, Gunilla; Kommers, Piet, IADIS , 2009Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Information systems may be used for several purposes in an organization. They are often the basis of operations and activities. For example, information systems and technologies can be an integrated part of the production process. Information systems have also an important role in management and development of the organization. Here information, its management and sharing throughout the company have a decisive role. It may still be argued that in many cases information systems are not used in the best possible way. For example, a lot of information remains personal property even though it might be valuable when shared with colleagues. In this paper we look at the role and use of information systems in information sharing. The paper explores the challenges in sharing of information and knowledge. Technology can be used here, especially if the information can be expressed in written format. When information is more tacit, complex and based on expertise also personal interaction is important in information sharing.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

och Jurassic World.

Subject line preferences and other factors contributing to coherence and interaction in student discussion forums2013In: Computers and education, ISSN 0360-1315, E-ISSN 1873-782X, Vol. 60, no 1, p. 172-183Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

A number of factors may affect student interaction in an asynchronous online discussion forum used in learning. This study deals with student preferences for the subject line of messages and in what ways the choice of subject line contributes to coherence and interaction reflected in the textual and interpersonal functions of the linguistic items used. The study also attempts to determine what affects the choices made by participants. Nine separate discussion forums from three different undergraduate courses in English at a Swedish university were used in the study. A total of 98 students and 435 student messages were examined and a number of trends appeared. The functions of the subject line may be summarized as contributing to coherence by reflecting message content in a number of different ways. In addition, the subject line can perform other tasks such as maintaining social relationships among the participants. It is not clear in what ways the subject line contributes to interaction with regard to increasing the reading rate. The trends observed indicate that other factors than subject line content may contribute to whether students are inclined to access a message or not, such as when a message is posted and where it is displayed on the screen. Yasujiro Ozu och bilden av den japanska arbetaren: En semiotisk analys av den japanska arbetaren i Yasujiro Ozus filmer2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

japansk film under tidsperioden 1932 – 1962. Analysen baseras på följande filmer av

Yasujiro Ozu: I Was Born, But… (1932), There Was a Father (1942) och An Autumn

Afternoon (1962).

    hierarkin.

Collaborative Filtering with Data Classification: A Combined Approach to Hotel Recommendation Systems2016In: 25th International Conference on Information Systems Development (ISD2016 Poland), 2016Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Recommendation systems aim to help users make decisions more efficiently. The most widely used method in recommendation systems is collaborative filtering, of which, a critical step is to analyze a user's preferences and make recommendations of products or services based on similarity analysis with other users' ratings. However, collaborative filtering is less usable for recommendation facing the "cold start" problem, i.e. few comments being given to products or services. To tackle this problem, we propose an improved method that combines collaborative filtering and data classification. We use hotel recommendation data to test the proposed method. The accuracy of the recommendation is determined by the rankings. Evaluations regarding the accuracies of Top-3 and Top-10 recommendation lists using the 10-fold cross-validation method and ROC curves are conducted. The results show that the Top-3 hotel recommendation list proposed by the combined method has the superiority of the recommendation performance than the Top-10 list under the cold start condition in most of the times.

A structural analysis of SLAs and dependencies using conceptual modelling approach2013In: Proceedings of the international conference COMPSAC 2013-Workshop on Service Sciences & Systems (SSS), IEEE CS Press , 2013, p. 439-444Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Making good use of Service Level Agreements (SLA) becomes crucial for an enterprise both to provide value added products and services to customers and to protect the interest of parties involved in the business activities. Well formed and effective structural representation and management of SLAs in conceptual modeling can greatly support the understanding and communication of service development and deployment as well as maintenance of quality of service. Existing specifications and structures for SLAs do not fully formalize and support for different automatic and dynamic behavioral aspects needed within business enterprises due to lack of study focusing on SLAs templates and their contents, which are mostly written on Natural Language (NL). We address the issues of how to use conceptual models to describe the structures of SLAs and the various relationships between SLAs and their items, and hence to better depict business domains. With focus on the contents, process, and dependencies among SLAs, we aim to use so generated concept model for service discovery, service delivery and scheduling.

    Abstract [en]

The inherent weakness of the data on user ratings collected from the web, such as sparsity and cold-start, has limited the data analysis capability and prediction accuracy. To alleviate this problem, trust is incorporated in the CF approaches with encouraging experimental results. In this paper, we propose a computational model for trust-based CF with a method to generate and propagate trust in a social network. We apply this method to measure trusts on users’ ratings of hotels and show its feasibility by comparing the testing results with the traditional CF methods, e.g. Mean Absolute Error.

    Abstract [en]

Semantic analysis is an important part of natural language processing, and it has a broadly application in the network information processing. This paper presents a semantic analysis framework based on the directed weighted graph. The paper uses a directed weighted graph for semantic classification. The methodology takes the information semantic analysis as the goal in network-oriented approach, particularly in E-commerce user reviews. It looks the formal semantics lexical as semantic body and denoted by nodes. It uses links to represent relationship between the nodes and calculated by weights. Directed links are used to connect to each other in nodes, which semantic vocabulary is interrelated between nodes. Then a directed weighted graph is constructed by semantic nodes and their interrelationships relations. The experimental results and analysis show that the proposed method in the paper can classify the semantics into different classification according to the path length threshold requirement.

Community-based message opportunistic transmission2016In: Transforming Healthcare Through Information Systems: Proceedings of the 24th International Conference on Information Systems Development, 2016, Vol. 17, p. 79-93Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Mobile Social Networks (MSNs) is a kind of opportunistic networks, which is composed of a large number of mobile nodes with social characteristic. Up to now, the prevalent communitybased routing algorithms mostly select the most optimal social characteristic node to forward messages. But they almost don't consider the effect of community distribution on mobile nodes and the time-varying characteristic of network. These algorithms usually result in high consumption of network resources and low successful delivery ratio if they are used directly in mobile social networks. We build a time-varying community-based network model, and propose a community-aware message opportunistic transmission algorithm (CMOT) in this paper. For inter-community messages transmission, the CMOT chooses an optimal community path by comparing the community transmission probability. For intra-community in local community, messages are forwarded according to the encounter probability between nodes. The simulation results show that the CMOT improves the message successful delivery ratio and reduces network overhead obviously, compared with classical routing algorithms, such as PRoPHET, MaxProp, Spray and Wait, and CMTS.

    Abstract [en]

The Twitter System is the biggest social network in the world, and everyday millions of tweets are posted and talked about, expressing various views and opinions. A large variety of research activities have been conducted to study how the opinions can be clustered and analyzed, so that some tendencies can be uncovered. Due to the inherent weaknesses of the tweets - very short texts and very informal styles of writing - it is rather hard to make an investigation of tweet data analysis giving results with good performance and accuracy. In this paper, we intend to attack the problem from another aspect - using a two-layer structure to analyze the twitter data: LDA with topic map modelling. The experimental results demonstrate that this approach shows a progress in twitter data analysis. However, more experiments with this method are expected in order to ensure that the accurate analytic results can be maintained.

    Abstract [en]

Today many companies focus their advertising on social media. Based on the

users behaviour they can design individual advertisement for the user. There are 2.2

billion active users on Facebook world wide which makes it a gratefull place for

advertisement. Facebook have the right to collect data about you and your behavior on the

website and on other websites connecting with Facebook. As a Facebook user you have

accepted these terms of service. You get more interesting advertisement in your

Facebook-feed but it might also make you feel that ”big brother is watching you”.

The purpose of this study is to describe how comfortable users in social media are with

organisations collecting data to make individualized advertisement. A questionnaire was

sent to 100 Facebook users including eight different scenarios on data collecting. The

respondents answered how comfortable they were with each scenario. Results showed that

the majority of the respondents where uncomfortable with all scenarios. The most

uncomfortable scenario would be if a cellphone eavesdropped into a private conversation

and then showed an ad about the product the people were talking about. Another sensitive

subject was collecting data for individual advertisement from political parties. Some

respondents also thought that there were too much advertisement on Facebook. However,

the majority of the respondents said no to the idea of paying for Facebook in order to

    avoid advertisement.

Finally, it was argued that the respondents wasn’t sure on what type of data Facebook

were collecting. The answer can be found in the terms of service. A discussion about a

simplification on user agreements were made.

    Abstract [en]

In direct reference to the saying “time is money”, nowadays scenario simulations play a key role in the tasks people perform. Optimizing the time length of tasks and synchronizing them properly is essential to increased profits in any line of business.

In this thesis the Bergkvist-Insjön sawmill yard process will be computer simulated. As the number of trucks arriving at the sawmill is unknown, the unexpected arrival of trucks would produce a high pressure on internal resources and handling operations. The aim of this paper is to optimize the usage of the resources in the Bergkvist-Insjön sawmill, by running three different scenarios built based on the real system simulation.

Scenario number three, in which a log stacker only has the tasks to unload the trucks and supply the measurement station, has been found most efficient. In the simulation of this scenario, the number of logs processed by the sawmill is the highest one. Also, the time spent by the log stackers between their tasks is the shortest one from all scenarios.

The results of this thesis revealed that the most efficient improvement of the sawmill yard would be gained by a different tasks’ priority for the operating log stackers.

Testverktyg för prestandamätningar av feta klienter: - En fallstudie med fokus på identifiering av testverktyg och beskrivning av viktiga kriterier för dessa2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to describe performance testing on thick clients, sometimes also referred to as desktop applications. Another aim with this study is to map out a selection of testing tools that can be used for performance testing of thick clients and to identify what qualities that is considered to be important criteria for these testing tools. The study is based on the research strategy called case study where the case is grounded the needs from Trafikverket but the results from this study could be applied on other business organizations that works with testing.

Both qualitative and quantitative data collecting methods where used in this study, in the form och interviews, document studies and questionnaires. Since the collected data in the study where in both qualitative and quantitative form the use of a mix between a qualitative thematical data analysis and a quantitative data analysis had to be done. A part of the analysis was an evaluation on a selection of testing tools towards a compiled list of criteria, as an evaluation method based on criteria.

The course of action for choosing and evaluation a testing tool that has been applied throughout the study is based on preexisting theories that has been found through reviews of literature. The reviews of literature have also been the ground for defining the central concepts of the study and contributes to the result by comparing what’s been found in literature to the collected data.

The result of the study contributes with a basis for decision for companies and organizations that is in the process of getting a testing tool for performance testing thick clients och how to evaluate these before obtaining the testing tool licenses. The study also contributes with a characterization of performance testing thick clients.

In this particular case, the most suitable testing tools came to be HP LoadRunner and also two testing tools from eggPlant combined (eggPlant Functional and eggPlant Performance).

Ny medialiseringsform av musik skapade förlorare och hjältar: Låtskrivares levnadshistoriska berättelser om deras ekonomiska överlevnad under musikindustrins omstrukturering2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

När filmen tränger in i dig från duken - Hur kommunicerar audiovisuella metaforer känslor i filmen Alien (1979)?2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Vertikal inramning i rörlig bild - Hatat internetfenomen eller ny estetisk praxis?: En intervjuundersökning av producenter inom audiovisuell media2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    forskning.

Problems in public e-service development2006Doctoral thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This thesis focuses on the general problem of integration and co-operation between business and IT organisations, and on the specific problem of co-ordinating the development process across stovepiped departments that do not collaborate cross-functionally. The purpose is to increase knowledge and understanding about public organisations’ difficulties in meeting their customers’ and the organisation’s needs for electronic services. The thesis also presents a model showing the relationships between factors of importance for understanding public organisations’ difficulties in implementing cross-functional or inter-departmental electronic services. The research is based on case studies of public and private organisations, and results show that public organisations attempting e-government will face large problems if they are unable to solve their internal stovepipe problems. On the other hand, they cannot expect the stovepipe problems to be solved without increasing customer orientation. Many private organisations have increased their speed in e-services, customer orientation and organisational changes, and have faced economic pressure early, while the public organisations are impeded by the role of law, complex goal structures, lack of collaboration and culture. But at the same time the public organisations are following a similar path to that of the private, and areas have been found where there are little differences (e.g. development processes and purchaser-contractor relationships). Furthermore, the thesis has identified a large potential in the use of enterprise architecture for improving co-operation between business and IT organisations and in the purchaser-contractor relations. An architecture is an important prerequisite for dealing with the growing complexity in describing an enterprise and its business, information, applications and technology.

Managing Stovepiped Organisations - A Comparison of Public and Private Organisations2006In: International Journal of Public Information Systems, ISSN 1653-4360, Vol. 2, no 1, p. 39-54Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Stovepiped systems and difficulties associated with managing cross-functional boundaries are problems that are hindering the successful implementation of customercentred systems and processes within public organisations. The present study covers public organisations, and discusses and analyses the results in relation to those from a previous study in the banking sector. While problems with stovepiped systems and departments have, in general, been solved in the banking sector, the results from the interviewed public organisations confirm that the stovepipe problem is still evident and that cross-functional collaboration, processes, customer focus and integration of services and channels all require additional improvement or development. The present study concludes that the goals with the highest priority for leaders in public organisations are not those associated with customer relations and that the political level rates higher than the customers’ demands. The public organisations are following a similar path to that of the private sector, but there are differences in both the time-frame and ability to implement changes due to weaker incentives for customer related work, and additionally, a larger organisational inertia of both culture and collaboration to overcome. Similarities are found in IT organisations and projects, and in the views regarding business organisations and the necessity for an enterprise architecture.

Towards e-government: a survey of problems in organisational processes2006In: Business Process Management Journal, ISSN 1463-7154, E-ISSN 1758-4116, Vol. 12, no 2, p. 149-161Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Purpose ? The purpose of this paper is to look at process initiatives in the Swedish social insurance administration, focusing on the problems of crossing functional boundaries, co-ordinating processes over inter-organisational boundaries and the issue of whether to aim for radical or incremental change. Design/methodology/approach ? The survey involved data collection including a study of internal documents and 16 individual personal interviews. Findings ? The organisation experiences collaboration problems when cross-functional work and processes collide with the traditional and hierarchical command and control structures. These are not easily dismantled, meaning intensive work to change the culture and break functional mind-sets. Furthermore the administration struggles with and can benefit from co-ordination of processes over the inter-organisational boundaries. Changes in the customer front-line affect the rest of the organisation and its processes. The study has shown that both functional units and support processes deep inside the organisation, like the systems development process, are affected, and that deficiencies in the underlying structure and organisation are revealed. The process efforts so far are scattered, but it may be more important for organisations to deploy process change, as a continuous strategic initiative, rather than embarking on huge radical redesign programmes. Originality/value ? Little information regarding processes and the public sector exists, and problems likely to be encountered by other public organisations are pointed out. The survey also puts light on support processes ? not only business processes ? required for e-government.

Critical Success Factors from a Social Insurance Project in Sweden2004Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

After 30 years holding the same course, a new pension scheme and IT system was introduced in Sweden. It is described as one of Swedens largest IT projects with approx. 1 800 000 lines of code produced by the IT department of the Swedish social insurance administration. The administration uses a purchaser-contractor model for systems development where the IT department supervises the development and management of the IT facilities used by the national social insurance system. The project has been evaluated several times pointing out critical success factors for future large-scale projects. This study examines the critical success factors in relation to the purchaser-contractor model and the administrations e-government efforts. Many factors refer to the roles in the purchaser-contractor model suggesting comprehensive views from all dimensions and communication and collaboration between the parts in the model. Another important factor is the project management. This suggests joint projects over the purchaser-contractor boundaries, uniting of overall leadership, overall planning, an operative project management, strong focus on goals and continuous follow-up. Other factors refer to the development process and its contents, suggesting a clarifying baseline after initial capturing of requirements not allowing more than regulated changes after the baseline. Special organisational structures are suggested for handling changes in requirements, for planning deliverables and for installation. Lastly, priority and support from top management was considered important. Furthermore the administration is on a path towards e-government, changing the organisation and processes in the customer front-line. A general process for management of the case workflow has been introduced, where the workflow is being managed in a general and similar way. A case management system has been developed that supports the general process. Web services for e-government will be ... (shortened)
