    Abstract [en]

    The desire to ascertain a high level of quality on the code written during the development of systems and applications is not something new in the system development world. Several larger companies use different kinds of metrics to measure the quality of the code in their systems with the goal of maintaining high reliability and quality.Trafikverket is a government authority responsible for the operation of the system that keeps the Swedish railroad running. Their systems play an important part in ensuring the operation and to ensure that train positions, the planning of departures and error handling works around the clock for the entire country, they find it important and strive to maintain the high quality of the systems.The aim of this thesis was to find out which measurements may be possible to use during the system development process to measure the quality of the code and how measurements can be used to increase the quality of IT solutions. It should be possible to measure the quality of the code that is written in both existing and newly developed systems at an early stage. The study is a case study conducted at Trafikverket, the metrics that were examined were code coverage, the level of maintainability index and the number of reported incidents for each system. Measurements were performed on seven of Trafikverket's systems. In the analysis the measurements were compared to the number of reported incidents. Interviews were conducted to provide a picture of how the operation of the development may affect the quality. Through literature studies we discovered a metric that could not be used practically in this case, this was cyclomatic complexity, it is available as part of the maintainability index, but also separately affects the ability to write unit tests. The results of the study show that the measurements are useful for this purpose but should not be used as individual metrics to measure quality because they all have their own function. A clear link between the level of the code coverage and the number of incidents could be observed in the investigated systems where high code coverage provides a lower rate of incidents. No correlation between maintainability index and incidents could be found.

    Firefly algorithm with proportional adjustment strategy2019Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Firefly algorithm is a new heuristic intelligent optimization algorithm and has excellent performance in many optimization problems. However, in the face of some multimodal and high-dimensional problems, the algorithm is easy to fall into the local optimum. In order to avoid this phenomenon, this paper proposed an improved firefly algorithm with proportional adjustment strategy for alpha and beta. Thirteen well-known benchmark functions are used to verify the performance of our proposed algorithm, the computational results show that our proposed algorithm is more efficient than many other FA algorithms.

    Municipalities today use registers to store information about objects that fall under their area of responsibility, Falun municipality today uses IBM Notes to develop new registers but wants to move from this development alternative to keep the licenses within the business down. The purpose of this study is to elucidate how effect mapping can be used as a collection method for designing new registers and to see if they can choose a development alternative based on these requirements. An art register has been used as a user case for this work. When collecting requirements, there are many different methods, effect mapping is a method that focuses on the desired effects a new IT product should contribute to instead of technical functions. The result of an effect mapping becomes an effect map that can be used as a requirement specification which only contains those parts of the product that have an influence on the desired effects. The procedure for this work has been in the form of a case study that has had interviews as the main data collection method but also a document study on an existing register has been carried out. The interviews have been part of the effect mapping method but have also been used to collect data on strengths and weaknesses with different development tools and what is important to consider when collecting requirements. The result of impact mapping became an impact map that can be used as a basis for the design of an art register, based on the collected requirements and data from interview with senior developers, a connection has been made if it is possible to determine which development alternative would best suit the power map. The conclusion of work was that impact mapping can be a good method for capturing stakeholders' needs and wishes for a new IT product in order to be able to design the register with a focus on desired effects. The requirements that were developed could be linked to strengths and weaknesses with SharePoint, but in order to make a decision, other aspects should also be considered and explored.

    Abstract [en]

    The usage of cloud services has made forensics investigations more complicated. But there are good foundations if the cloud service providers would create services to retrieve all the information. It would make the process easier and more reliable.

    The most difficult part to do correctly is to download the information from the cloud services. The investigation is done in a volatile environment and not on a secured copy. It is possible that changes are made during the time the data is retrieved, which is not always visible. It is not possible to compare the differences in files with hash values, in the same way as forensic investigations of computers. That is why it is very important to document how the information is retrieved, preferably by recording the computer screen during the time the information is retrieved.

    The information is saved on multiple locations when the cloud services Office 365 and Google Apps are used, both in the cloud and on the computer that is being used to access the cloud. The web browser saves a lot of information of what has been done. That is why it is important to find out which computer has been used to connect to the cloud service, which is not possible today. If it would be possible to examine all the computer that have been used, evidence that is no longer in the cloud could be found,

    The best through a forensic angle would be if the cloud service providers offered to retrieve all data which involves a user, including all relevant logs. Then it would be possible to retrieve the data with a secure method, because it would not be possible to change the information during the retrieval.

    Syftet med denna kvalitativa studie är att undersöka hur skivbranschverksamma

    personer kan resonera kring inspelning av fullängdsalbum samt distribution av dessa nu

    i en tid när musik distribueras såväl genom digitala releaser som fysiska utgivningar.

    Forskningsfrågorna behandlar hur dessa personer ser på den intresseförändring som

    skett under de senaste 20 åren inom branschen gällande inspelning av fullängdsalbum,

    samt om man helst väljer att släppa musik digitalt eller på ett fysiskt medium. Intervjuer

    med tre stycken mycket erfarna personer inom skivbranschen har genomförts, där

    informanternas utsagor sedan har analyserats med begrepp hämtade från en darwinistisk

    teori. Undersökningens resultat indikerar att det har skett en intresseförändring under de

    senaste 20 åren och att skivbranschen idag fokuserar mer på digitala releaser än fysiska

    utgivningar samt att singlar premieras framför fullängdsalbum. Undersökningens

    resultat överensstämmer väl med den tidigare forskningen inom kunskapsområdet.

    Abstract [en]

    Objective: To define and evaluate a computer method for assessing drawing impairment in spiral drawings. To define an overall score, summarizing self-assessments and motor test data from a test battery for patients with advanced Parkinson's disease (PD). Background: A test battery, consisting of self-assessments (modified PDQ-8) and motor tests (tapping and spiral drawing) was developed for a hand computer with touch screen in a telemedicine setting. Assessments and tests were carried out four times per day in a group of 65 patients with advanced PD (Duodopa treated or candidates) during 1-6 weekly test periods each. For most test periods, UPDRS ratings were available. Methods: In a web interface, a PD specialist assessed drawing impairment in 505 selected spiral drawings, representing all categories on the Bain & Findley 10-category scale. A computer method, using wavelet transforms and principal component analysis, processed the same spirals to generate a 'spiral score'. According to the PD specialist and co-author Dr Nyholm, the information content of a test period with the test battery could be descibed by six dimensions, 'off', 'dyskinesia', 'walking', 'satisfaction', 'spiral', and 'tapping'. Each dimension was defined as the first principal component of the level (mean) and fluctuation (standard deviation) for the questions or tests that this dimension is based on. Tapping dimension was based on both speed and accuracy. To obtain weights for an overall score, linear regression of the dimensions vs. simultaneous UPDRS ratings was performed. To assess the internal consistency of the test battery, Cronbach's Alpha for the six dimensions was calculated. Results: Pearson correlation between spiral score and clinical rating of drawing impairment was 0.87. Weights in overall test score were (%): spirals, 41, tapping, 24, satisfied, 19, dyskinetic, 10, walking, 5.4 and off, 0.1. Internal consistency for the dimensions was 0.81. Conclusions: The computer generated spiral score was strongly correlated to clinical assessment of drawing impairment. Spirals were assigned highest weight in overall score, reflecting the high weight of motor function in total UPDRS. Internal consistency was strong, implying all dimensions represent aspects of a common characteristic.

    Abstract [en]

    Two studies comparing intraduodenal infusion of a levodopa/carbidopa gel with oral treatments in advanced PD patients, demonstrated improvement in UPDRS scores and in frequent clinical ratings on a global treatment response scale. Further analysis of data from these studies was performed to find predictive factors related to degree of improvement with infusion. Pearson correlation coefficients between measures of improvement and baseline variables were calculated. Using data from one study, a prediction model was designed and was then evaluated using the other study’s data. Correlations were found indicating that patients with more severe symptoms at baseline were most improved after infusion.

    Abstract [en]

    Objective: The purpose of this work was to identify and estimate a population pharmacokinetic- pharmacodynamic model for duodenal infusion of a levodopa/carbidopa gel (Duodopa) to examine pharmacological properties of this treatment.

    Methods: The modeling involved pooling data from 3 studies (on advanced Parkinson disease) and fixing some parameters to values found in literature. The first study involved 12 patients studied on 3 occasions each and was previously published. The second study involved 3 patients on 2 occasions. A bolus dose was given after a washout during night. Plasma samples and motor ratings (clinical assessment of motor function on a 7-point treatment response scale ranging from "very off" to "very hyperkinetic") were collected until the clinical effect returned to baseline. The third study involved 5 patients on 3 occasions receiving 5 different dose levels. Different structural models were evaluated using the nonlinear mixed-effects modeling program NONMEM VI. Population mean parameter values, and interindividual, interoccasion, and residual variabilities were estimated.

    Results: Absorption of the levodopa/carbidopa gel can be adequately described with first-order absorption with bioavailability and lag time. Estimated population parameter values were a mean absorption time of 28.5 minutes, a lag time of 2.9 minutes, and a bioavailability of 88%. The pharmacodynamic model for motor ratings had the following population values: a half-life of effect delay of 21 minutes, a concentration at 50% effect of 1.55 mg/L, an Emax of 2.39 U on the treatment response scale, and a sigmoidicity of the Emax function of 11.6.

    Conclusions: For the typical unmedicated subject, it will take 51.4 minutes until the peak levodopa effect is reached after a bolus dose. This delay is, like the magnitude of the effect, highly variable in this patient group. The residual error magnitudes of 20% for levodopa concentrations and 0.92 U (SD) for motor ratings indicate that the models developed provide predictions of a relevant quality. The developed model may be a first step toward model-guided treatment individualization of duodenal infusion of levodopa.

    Test sequences in a test battery for Parkinson’s disease patients, consisting of self-assessments and motor tests, were carried out repeatedly in a telemedicine setting, during week-long test periods and results were summarized in an ‘overall score’. 35 patients in stable and fluctuating conditions (15 age- and gender-matched pairs) used the test battery for 1 week, and were then assessed with UPDRS and PDQ-39. This procedure was repeated 1 week later, without treatment changes. Reliability was assessed by intraclass correlation coefficients and Cronbach’s alpha. Convergent validity was assessed by Spearman rank correlations and known-groups’ validity, by the Mann–Whitney test. According to anonymous usability questionnaires, the patients could easily complete the tasks. Median compliance (93%) and test–retest reliability (0.88) were good. The correlations between overall score and total UPDRS (-0.64) and PDQ-39 (-0.72) were adequate. Median overall score was 18% better in the stable compared to the fluctuating group (p = 0.0014).

    Denna uppsats problematiserar hur kollektiva förvaltningsorganisationer fördelar pengar

    insamlade från offentligt framförd klubbmusik samt undersöker hur etablerade dj’s och

    producenter ser på dagens system och tror sig påverkas av detta. Med djupintervjuer av

    fyra personer undersöker uppsatsen även hur dessa ser på rapportering av den spelade

    musiken, vilka problem som kan uppstå och om det finns tekniska möjligheter att

    underlätta för korrekt fördelning. Resultaten visar att intervjupersonerna skiljer sig åt i

    vilken typ av karriär de har och därmed hur man förhåller sig till dagens system. Ingen

    ställde sig dock positiv till att rapportera in spellistor med vad de spelat som dj’s, man

    lyfte även fram problemet med att ersätta musik som spelas men ännu inte släppts

    officiellt. Det framkom också att vi idag har tekniska möjligheter att övervaka vad som

    spelas genom användandet av akustiska fingeravtryck. Jag diskuterade att det är först

    när ett sådant system är på plats som vi kan se hur mycket fel dagens pengar fördelas.

    Anders Zorn var en av världens främste konstnärer kring sekelskiftet 1900. Han levde ett

    innehållsrikt och hektiskt liv tillsammans med hustrun Emma Zorn. Uppsatsen syftar till att

    jämföra två berättelser om Zorn. Gunnar Hellström gjorde 1994 spelfilmen Zorn som handlar

    om en del ur makarna Zorns liv. Denna film jämförs med Birgitta Sandströms biografi Emma

    Zorn som behandlar samma period som skildras i filmen på ett detaljerat sätt.

    Frågeställningarna som uppsatsen utgår ifrån är: Hur skiljer sig Birgitta Sandströms bild av

    Anders Zorn från den Gunnar Hellström målar upp i sin film Zorn och är det möjligt att peka

    på några speciella aspekter som skiljer sig mer än andra? Samt vad kan skillnaderna mellan

    berättelserna bero på? Syftet är att belysa likheter och skillnader mellan dessa verk för att

    påvisa att det alltid förekommer tolkningar, både av upphovsmannen men också hos

    åskådaren samt att de val upphovsmannen gör har betydelse. Det finns flera delar ur filmen

    som stämmer överens med biografins beskrivning men det finns också stora skillnader.

    Generellt skildras makarna Zorns liv mer dramatiskt och negativt i Hellströms film jämfört

    med i biografin. Det går att peka på framförallt tre aspekter av Zorns liv som skiljer sig mer

    än andra. Dessa är makarna Zorns stormiga förhållande, Zorns oäkta barn och älskarinnor

    samt Emma Zorn som en mycket inaktiv och hemmasittandes person. Det som skiljer sig mest

    mellan filmen och biografin är det sistnämnda.

    Today, more organizations are dependent on the competence of their employees. Previous studies have shown that one can use IT systems to support competence management. There are several problems with the systems. One of them is to update the competence, if it isn’t updated the competence becomes less and less useful to the organization. Another problem with implementing a competence management system is to design a competency framework. The purpose of this study is to highlight the problems associated with the development of competence management systems. The research strategy used is Design and Creation and the development model used is prototyping. The prototype was evaluated by demonstrations for end users. The essay knowledge contribution is to show how a system for competence management can be built to address the problems above.

    I detta arbetet har det genomförts två undersökningar. Den ena undersökningen handlar om GDPR och den andra om NIS. Dessa två regelverk är skapade av EU för att säkra upp när det gäller cyberattacker och att styrka individers möjlighet att hantera sina personuppgifter. Det har även skapats en enkel hemsida i arbetet. Denna hemsidan är ett experiment för att ta reda på vad någon som äger eller tillhandahåller en enkel hemsida bör tänka på när det kommer till GDPR och NIS. Hemsidan i sig är tänkt att ge möjlighet för människor att träffa andra med samma intresse eller träffa de som befinner sig i liknande livssituationer. GDPR är en förnyelse av Sveriges tidigare lag PUL. GDPR är en förordning från EU vilket innebär att den måste följas mer noggrant än PUL. PUL var ett direktiv från EU. Ett direktiv väger inte lika tungt som en förordning. GDPR ger EU:s medlemsländers medborgare starkare rättigheter till deras personuppgifter. Det innebär att de har rätt att veta vad och varför personuppgifter hanteras. De har även rätt till radering vilket innebär att en organisation måste radera personuppgifter om de inte längre har någon anledning att fortsätta behandla dem. Det kan handla om rättslig påverkan eller en intresseavvägning om en personuppgift får behandlas vidare eller inte. NIS är som sagt skapat av EU, detta är ett direktiv som beskrivit lite tidigare i detta stycke vad det innebär. Här har EU:S medlemsländer lite friare händer. Det finns mål som skall uppfyllas men medlemsländerna får själva bestämma hur målen skall uppnås. NIS handlar om cybersäkerheten inom EU. Det gäller att stärka den lägstanivå som finns. Jobba med att vara bättre förberedd om en incident skulle inträffa och på så sätt ge ett bättre grundskydd mot cyberattacker. Vad gäller en enkel hemsida så har GDPR en del att säga till om. Om man sparar data i en databas så skall de som personuppgifterna tillhör veta om det och samtycka till det. Det skall även kunna gå att få fram informationen som är sparad om personerna och även radering av personuppgifter om så önskas. En registrerad skall kunna få information om personuppgifter som sparas hos en personuppgiftsbehandlare utan att betala för det. När det gäller NIS och enkla hemsidor så är det i regel inget som rör den som tillhandahåller hemsidan eller hemsidans ägare. Det krävs i så fall att det är större företag med stor omsättning och som har huvudkontor i Sverige.

    Uppsatsen faller inom ämnesområdet musikproduktion, där yrket musikproducent

    studeras ur ett feministiskt perspektiv. Studien utgår från att kvinnliga

    musikproducenter är underrepresenterade i Sverige och att musikproduktion i större

    drag är synonymt med manlighet. Med utgångspunkt av Equalizerprojektet, vars mål är

    att på snabbare sikt göra musikbranschen mer jämställd, syftar den här studien till att

    analysera manliga musikproducenters tankar och upplevelser av branschen.

    Genom en kvalitativ metod har semistrukturerade intervjuer gjorts med fyra verksamma

    manliga musikproducenter under november månad år 2017. Respondenternas

    reflektioner har sedan analyserats utifrån pionjärer inom feminism och

    maskulinitetsforskning. Genom dessa teorier får vi en inblick i komplexa hierarkier, där

    män kategoriseras i underordnade, överordnade och delaktiga maskuliniteter, varpå

    några av dessa maskulina beteenden är med och bidrar till en icke jämställd

    musikbransch.

    Efter studien konstateras att samtliga respondenter tillhör en underordnad maskulinitet

    där de själva anser sig vara besvärade av en dominant manlighet som är starkt rådande

    inom yrket. De upplever att det ger utdelning att anamma samma starka maskulina

    jargong, vilket bidrar till att den dominanta maskuliniteten upprätthålls. Två av

    respondenterna påvisar en stark feministiskt medvetenhet, både på strukturell nivå samt

    individnivå. Resterande respondenter visar en positiv inställning till att musikbranschen

    bör bli mer jämställd, samtidigt som de själva anser att de skulle kunna göra mer för att

    förändra rådande strukturella normer.

    Molnet är ett evolutionärt koncept som erbjuder en konkurrenskraft – och kostnadskontroll för företag

    genom att integrera olika och existerande teknik. Molnet avser både applikationer som levereras som

    tjänst över Internet, och hårdvara – och mjukvara som tillhandahålls i dessa tjänster. För att kunna dra

    nytta av pris – och prestationsfördelar som molnet erbjuder innebär det att resurser är konsoliderade

    mellan flera kunder i samma infrastruktur. Det är med hänsyn till en konsoliderad miljö som isolering

    av kunders resurser är särskilt viktigt att beakta. Syftet med min studie är att identifiera de risker

    gällande separation av resurser som medföljer en molnbaserad infrastruktur, och lyfta fram olika

    mekanismer för att säkert tillgodogöra behovet, samt att belysa homomorfisk kryptering som en

    separationsmekanism. I uppsatsens litteraturstudie presenterar jag de väsentliga risker som gäller

    separation av resurser från andra kunder och från leverantören, och vanligt förekommande logiska

    separationsmekanismer och deras funktioner som riskåtgärder för de presenterade riskerna. Läran om

    kryptografi sammanfattas i syftemål att presentera homomorfisk kryptering och dess anknytning till

    resursseparation. Litteraturstudier och intervjuer med såväl kunder som leverantörer av molntjänster

    har berett mig ett underlag för att kunna utvärdera de presenterade mekanismerna. Studiens resultat

    visade att stark isolering från andra kunder kan uppnås, men att det är problematiskt att fullständigt

    separera resurser från leverantören. Resultatet har dessutom visat att krypteringsalgoritmer som är

    homomorfiska kan vara säkra men brister i dess ineffektivitet att praktiskt kunna tillämpas.

    Social commerce is a promising new paradigm of e-commerce. Given the open and dynamic nature of social media infrastructure, the governance structures of social commerce are usually realized through reputation mechanisms. However, the existing approaches to the prediction of trust in future interactions are based on personal observations and/or publicly shared information in social commerce application. As a result, the indications are unreliable and biased because of limited first-hand information and stake-holder manipulation for personal strategic interests. Methods that extract trust values from social links among users can improve the performance of reputation mechanisms. Nonetheless, these links may not always be available and are typically sparse in social commerce, especially for new users. Thus, this study proposes a new graph-based comprehensive reputation model to build trust by fully exploiting the social context of opinions based on the activities and relationship networks of opinion contributors. The proposed model incorporates the behavioral activities and social relationship reputations of users to combat the scarcity of first-hand information and identifies a set of critical trust factors to mitigate the subjectivity of opinions and the dynamics of behaviors. Furthermore, we enhance the model by developing a novel deception filtering approach to discard "bad-mouthing" opinions and by exploiting a personalized direct distrust (risk) metric to identify malicious providers. Experimental results show that the proposed reputation model can outperform other trust and reputation models in most cases. (C) 2014 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

    Abstract [en]

    This article describes a method of automatically detecting, counting and classifying logs on a timber truck using a photograph (taken by the driver). An image-processing algorithm is developed to process the photograph to calculate an estimate of the number of logs present and their respective diameters. The algorithm uses color information in multiple color spaces as well as geometrical operators to segment the image and extract the relevant information. This information enables the sawmill to better plan internal logistics and production in advance of the truck’s arrival time. The algorithm is robust with respect to external factors such as varying lighting conditions and camera angle, but some inaccuracies remain, mainly caused by logs being occluded or covered in mud or snow.

    This paper attempts to summarise the findings of a large number of research papers deploying artificial intelligence (AI) techniques for the automatic interpretation of data from non-destructive testing (NDT). Problems in the rail transport domain are mainly discussed. However, a majority of the emphasis in this paper is laid on rail inspection problems, since it was believed that the review would provide a perfect ground to the authors in pursuing further work within the rail inspection area. NDT is a broad name for a variety of methods and procedures concerned with all aspects of uniformity, quality and serviceability of materials and structures, without causing damage to the material that is being inspected. During the past several years, problems concerning the automatic interpretation of data from NDT have received good attention and have stimulated interests in other areas like transportation, for making key assessments within some of its subject areas. Rail, air and marine industries together with bridge inspection and pavement maintenance are good examples of such areas where a considerable amount of work has been done. Such work neatly splits into two schools. The first school investigates the classical usage of data by an experienced human operator to determine the condition of the inspected material or structure. The other school focuses attention on the automatic interpretation of NDT data using AI techniques, in determining the result of inspection. The scope of this paper is only limited to the automatic interpretation of data from NDT, with the goal of assessing embedded flaws as quickly and accurately as possible in a cost effective fashion. AI techniques such as neural networks, machine vision, knowledge-based systems and fuzzy logic were applied to a wide spectrum of problems in the area. A secondary goal was to provide an insight into possible research methods concerning railway sleeper inspection by automatic interpretation of data. A brief introduction is provided for the benefit of the readers unfamiliar with the techniques.

    Wooden railway sleeper inspections in Sweden are currently performed manually by a human operator; such inspections are to large extent based on visual analysis. In this paper a machine vision based approach has been considered to emulate the visual abilities of the human operator to enable automation of the process. Digital images from either ends (left and right) of the sleepers have been acquired. A pattern recognition approach has been adopted to classify the condition of the sleeper into classes (good or bad) and thereby achieve automation. Appropriate image analysis techniques were applied and relevant features such as the number of cracks on a sleeper, average length and width of the crack and the condition of the metal plate were determined. Feature fusion has been proposed in order to integrate the features obtained from each end for the classification task which follows. The effect of using classifiers like multi-layer perceptron and support vector machines has been tested and compared. Results obtained from the experiments show that multi-layer perceptron and support vector machines have achieved encouraging results, with a classification accuracy of 90%; thereby exhibiting a competitive performance when compared to a human operator.

    Wooden railway sleeper inspections in Sweden are currently done by hand. That is to say, a human inspector in charge of the maintenance activities visually examines each structure in turn for the presence of cracks on the sleeper. Where necessary some deeper inspection may be carried out on site, for example using an axe to hit and judge the condition of the sleeper by listening to the sound produced. Though the manual procedure uses non-destructive testing methods (visual and sound analysis), decision-making is largely based on intuition; moreover the process is rather slow, expensive and also requires skilled and trained staff. Maintaining an even quality standard is another serious issue. Hence, it is desired to automate the human inspection process by proposing automatic testing procedures for future inspections concerning the condition of the sleeper. Studies based on emulation of the human inspection process have been considered a promising route of enquiry for automation. Such an emulation process is achieved by selecting and evaluating two non-destructive inspection methods. The first method (impact acoustic analysis) aims to build an automatic system to replace the usage of an axe for distinguishing sounds. The second method (visual analysis) is to develop an appropriate machine vision algorithm to replicate the visual examination. Further, the above-mentioned methods were fused (data fusion) to generate a single output condition concerning the condition of the sleeper. In the current work, fusion has been achieved in mainly three levels, namely sensor-level, feature-level and classifier-level. Experimental results achieved in this work indicate that data fusion has achieved superior performance when compared with using data from one method at a time.

    Railway sleepers are a key engineering element of all railways. Lack of much sophistication in monitoring railway sleepers makes it a key problem within the rail transportation domain. Current day condition monitoring applications involving wooden railway sleepers are mostly carried out through visual inspection and if necessary some impact acoustic examination is carried out. Decision making is largely based on intuition; moreover the process of manually inspecting sleepers is rather slow and expensive. Maintaining an even quality standard is another serious issue. In this article, a pattern recognition and classification approach is taken to automate such intuitive human skills for the development of more robust and reliable testing methods. Features were extracted from the impact acoustic emissions of wooden sleepers and were used for pattern classification. Time-frequency based feature extraction techniques such short-time Fourier transform and discrete wavelet transform yielded good results. Multi-layer perceptron, radial basis function neural networks and support vector machine classifiers have been tested and compared. Further classifier fusion was investigated by considering the output of single best classifiers as input to a new classifier with an aim of improving performance. Results obtained experimentally demonstrate a classification accuracy of around 84%.

    Condition monitoring applications deploying the usage of impact acoustic techniques are mostly done intuitively by skilled personnel. In this article, a pattern recognition approach is taken to automate such intuitive human skills for the development of more robust and reliable testing methods. The focus of this work is to use the approach as a part of a major research project in the rail inspection area, within the domain of Intelligent Transport Systems. Data from impact acoustic tests made on wooden beams have been used. The relation between condition of the wooden beams and respective sounds they make when struck, has been analyzed experimentally. Features were extracted from the acoustic emissions of wooden beams and were used for pattern classification. Features such as magnitude of the signal, natural logarithm of the magnitude and Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients, yielded good results. The extracted feature vectors were used as input to various pattern classifiers for further pattern recognition task. The effect of using classifiers like Support vector machines and Multi-layer perceptron has been tested and compared. Results obtained experimentally, demonstrate that Support vector machines provide good detection rates for the classification of impact acoustic signals in the NDT domain.

Further issues concerning feature fusion are discussed as well. It is hoped that this kind of broad analysis could be used to handle a wide spectrum of tasks within the area, and would provide a perfect ground for future research directions. A brief introduction to the techniques is provided for the benefit of the readers unfamiliar with the techniques. Pattern classifiers such as support vector machines, etc. are combined with stationary feature extraction techniques such as linear predictive cepstral coefficients, etc. Results from support vector machines in combination with linear predictive cepstral coefficients delivered good classification rates. However, Gaussian mixture models delivered higher classification rates when feature fusion is proposed.

    Current day vegetation assessments within railway maintenance are (to a large extent) carried out manually. This study has investigated the reliability of such manual assessments by taking three non-domain experts into account. Thirty-five track images under different conditions were acquired for the purpose. For each image, the raters’ were asked to estimate the cover of woody plants, herbs and grass separately (in %) using methods such as aerial canopy cover, aerial foliar cover and sub-plot frequency. Visual estimates of raters’ were recorded and analysis-of-variance tests on the mean cover estimates were investigated to see whether if there were disagreements between the raters’.  In tra-correl ation coefficient was used to study the differences between the estimates. Results achieved in this work revealed that seven out of the nine analysis-of-variance tests conducted in this study have demonstrated significant difference in the mean estimates of cover (p < 0.05).

    This paper summarises the results of using a pattern recognition approach for classifying the condition of wooden railway sleepers. Railway sleeper inspections are currently done manually; visual inspection being the most common approach, with some deeper examination using an axe to judge the condition. Digital images of the sleepers were acquired to compensate for the human visual capabilities. Appropriate image analysis techniques were applied to further process the images and necessary features such as number of cracks, crack length etc have been extracted. Finally a pattern recognition and classification approach has been adopted to further classify the condition of the sleeper into classes (good or bad). A Support Vector Machine (SVM) using a Gaussian kernel has achieved good classification rate (86%) in the current case.

    With the development of E-commerce and Internet, items are becoming more and more, which brings a so called information overload problem that it is hard for users to find the items they would be interested in. Recommender systems emerge to response to this problem through discovering user interest based on their rating information automatically. But the rating information is usually sparse compared to all the possible ratings between users and items. Therefore, it is hard to find out user interest, which is the most important part in recommender systems. In this paper, we propose a recommendation method TT-Rec that employs trust propagation and topic-level user interest expansion to predict user interest. TT-Rec uses a reputation-based method to weight users' influence on other users when propagating trust. TT-Rec also considers discovering user interest by expanding user interest in topic level. In the evaluation, we use three metrics MAE, Coverage and F1 to evaluate TT-Rec through comparative experiments. The experiment results show that TT-Rec recommendation method has a good performance.

    Abstract [en]

    Recommender Systems (RS) aim to suggest users with items that they might like based on users' opinion on items. In practice, information about the users' opinion on items is usually sparse compared to the vast information about users and items. Therefore it is hard to analyze and justify users' favorites, particularly those of cold start users. In this paper, we propose a trust model based on the user trust network, which is composed of the trust relationships among users. We also introduce the widely used conceptual model Topic Map, with which we try to classify items into topics for Recommender analysis. We novelly combine trust relations among users with Topic Maps to resolve the sparsity problem and cold start problem. The evaluation shows our model and method can achieve a good recommendation effect.

    On May 25, 2018, the EU's new data protection regulation will come into force throughout the EU. The English name of this regulation is the Data Protection Regulation which is shortened GDPR. The purpose of the new data protection regulation is to ensure people's right to protection of their personal data, which will strengthen personal integrity in an increasingly digitized world. This will be done by establishing rules for the free flow of personal data within the EU. The Data Protection Regulation will place high demands on organizations that have to undergo major change efforts to comply with the regulatory requirements.

    One of the aims of this study has been to investigate whether the operation of the adult education within the municipality of Falun is sustainable in view of the requirements of the new data protection regulation. With this as a starting point, a review of the handling of personal data has been identified. One of the study's issues has been to identify critical points in the adult education activities where personal data incidents could occur. In the study, mixed techniques have been used to gather the necessary information in relation to the questions. Literature studies have been conducted in the field of data protection regulation and information security in general. In addition, gathering of empirical data has been done through oral and written interviews with selected key persons in the organization. Based on this information, a mapping and analysis has been made, which has resulted in an evaluation of the organizations processes in which personal data are handled. With that as a starting point, the questions have been as critical points have been identified and recommended working methods have been presented.

    The study's results show that the municipality of Falun has begun adaptation work to meet the requirements of the new data protection regulation. However, the work has started so late that you still have a lot of work left to implement in the organization. The Data Protection Regulation was adopted on April 27, 2016, which means that in practice they have had at least two years to prepare. For Falun municipality to meet the new requirements of the Data Protection Regulation, key factors are the management's commitment and understanding, as well as the implementation of custom education for all staff in the organization. The study also shows that the adaptation to the new data protection regulation is a continuous work, which should be achieved systematically over time.

    In the environmental surveillance of other municipalities, many have begun their work with an adaptation to the new data protection regulation. These are, like the municipality of Falun, far from fully prepared for the data protection regulation to enter into force on May 25, 2018.

    Abstract [en]

    Workplace safety is a major concern in many countries. Among various industries, construction sector is identified as the most hazardous work place. Construction accidents not only cause human sufferings but also result in huge financial loss. To prevent reoccurrence of similar accidents in the future and make scientific risk control plans, analysis of accidents is essential. In construction industry, fatality and catastrophe investigation summary reports are available for the past accidents. In this study, text mining and natural language process (NLP) techniques are applied to analyze the construction accident reports. To be more specific, five baseline models, support vector machine (SVM), linear regression (LR), K-nearest neighbor (KNN), decision tree (DT), Naive Bayes (NB) and an ensemble model are proposed to classify the causes of the accidents. Besides, Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) algorithm is utilized to optimize weight of each classifier involved in the ensemble model. Experiment results show that the optimized ensemble model outperforms rest models considered in this study in terms of average weighted F1 score. The result also shows that the proposed approach is more robust to cases of low support. Moreover, an unsupervised chunking approach is proposed to extract common objects which cause the accidents based on grammar rules identified in the reports. As harmful objects are one of the major factors leading to construction accidents, identifying such objects is extremely helpful to mitigate potential risks. Certain limitations of the proposed methods are discussed and suggestions and future improvements are provided.

    Semantic and sentimental analysis plays an important role in natural language processing, especially in textual analysis, and has a wide range of applications in web information processing and management. This paper intends to present a sentimental analysis framework based on the directed weighted graph method, which is used for semantic classification of the textual comments, i.e. user reviews, collected from the e-commerce websites. The directed weighted graph defines a formal semantics lexical as a semantic body, denoted to be a node in the graph. The directed links in the graph, representing the relationships between the nodes, are used to connect nodes to each other with their weights. Then a directed weighted graph is constructed with semantic nodes and their interrelationships relations. The experimental results show that the method proposed in the paper can classify the semantics into different classification based on the computation of the path lengths with a threshold. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.

    Abstract [en]

    In the wireless sensor networks, the hardware limitations of sensor nodes cause high transmission failure rate. We usually increase the density of nodes to improve the quality of information transmission. However, it is difficult for the limited energy supply, storage, and communication bandwidth to transfer large amount of redundant sensory data. So we use data fusion technology to remove the redundant data as much as possible before the data transmission. Data fusion becomes a research hotspot in recent years. In this paper we propose a multilayer and multi-agent data fusion mode, and analyze the proposed mode performance in three aspects: hops, energy consumption and network delay. The simulation experiments show that, if reasonably suitable parameters, such as the network scale, the number and size of agents, the data processing cost, are selected, the mobile agent mode is much better than the client/server mode.

    Abstract [en]

    An Opportunistic Networks is a wireless self-organized network, in which there is no need to build a fixed connectivity between source node and destination node, and the communication depends on the opportunity of node meeting. There are some classical message transmission algorithms, such as PRoPHET, MaxProp, and so on. In the Opportunity Networks with community characteristic, the different message transmission strategies can be sued in inter-community and intra-community. It improves the message successful delivery ratio significantly. The classical algorithms are CMTS and CMOT. We propose an energy efficient message forwarding algorithm (EEMF) for community-based Opportunistic Networks in this paper. When a message is transmitted, we consider not only the community characteristic, but also the residual energy of each node. The simulation results show that the EEMF algorithm can improve the message successful delivery ratio and reduce the network overhead obviously, in comparison with classical routing algorithms, such as PRoPHET, MaxProp, CMTS and CMOT. Meanwhile the EEMF algorithm can reduce the node's energy consumption and prolong the lifetime of network.

    Abstract [en]

    The advancement of GPS technology has made it possible to use GPS devices as orientation and navigation tools, but also as tools to track spatio-temporal information. GPS tracking data can be broadly applied in location-based services, such as spatial distribution of the economy, transportation routing and planning, traffic management and environmental control. Therefore, knowledge of how to process the data from a standard GPS device is crucial for further use. Previous studies have considered various issues of the data processing at the time. This paper, however, aims to outline a general procedure for processing GPS tracking data. The procedure is illustrated step by step by the processing of real-world GPS data of car movements in Borlänge in the centre of Sweden.

    Does road network density matter in optimally locating facilities?2015Report (Other (popular science, discussion, etc.))
    Abstract [en]

    Optimal location on the transport infrastructure is the preferable requirement for many decision making processes. Most studies have focused on evaluating performances of optimally locate p facilities by minimizing their distances to a geographically distributed demand (n) when p and n vary. The optimal locations are also sensitive to geographical context such as road network, especially when they are asymmetrically distributed in the plane. The influence of alternating road network density is however not a very well-studied problem especially when it is applied in a real world context. This paper aims to investigate how the density level of the road network affects finding optimal location by solving the specific case of p-median location problem. A denser network is found needed when a higher number of facilities are to locate. The best solution will not always be obtained in the most detailed network but in a middle density level. The solutions do not further improve or improve insignificantly as the density exceeds 12,000 nodes, some solutions even deteriorate. The hierarchy of the different densities of network can be used according to location and transportation purposes and increase the efficiency of heuristic methods. The method in this study can be applied to other location-allocation problem in transportation analysis where the road network density can be differentiated.

    How does the complexity of a road network affect optimal facility locations?2015Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    The road network is a necessary component in transportation. It facilitiesspatial movements of people and goods, and it also influences the optimal locations of facilities that usually serve as destinations of the movements. To fulfill the transportation needs and to adapt to the facility development, the road network is often organized hierarchically and asymmetrically with various road levels and spatial structures. The complexity of the road network increases along with the increase of road levels and spatial structures. However, location models locate facilities on a given road network, usually the most complex one, and the influence from the complexity of road network in finding optimal locations is not well-studied. This paper aims to investigate how the complexity of a road network affects the optimal facility locations by applying the widely-applied p-median model. The main result indicates that an increase in road network complexity, up to a certain level, can obviously improve the solution, and the complexity beyond that level does not always lead to better solutions. Furthermore, the result is not sensitive to the choice of algorithms. In a specific case study, a detailed sensitivity analysis of algorithm and facility number further provides insight into computation complexity and location problems from intra-urban to inter-urban.

    Arbetsprocessen har förändrats under filmhistoriens gång, delvis på grund av teknologiska framsteg, som till exempel bytet till digitala filmklippningsverktyg. Hur filmklippningsprocessen ser ut, skiljer sig mellan filmklippare, men kan man även finna skillnader mellan olika regioner?

    Den här uppsatsen undersöker ifall det finns några likheter och skillnader mellan arbetsprocessen för filmklippning i Europa och Hollywood. Undersökningen genomförs genom en kvalitativ analys, där material samlas in från diverse påståenden från filmklippare i litteratur, samt från kvalitativa intervjuer som genomförs med filmklipparna Martin Hunter och Michal Leszczylowski.

    Resultatet pekar på att det finns både likheter och skillnader mellan de två regionerna. De båda regionernas arbetsprocess har påverkats av bytet till digital filmklippning. Deras arbetsuppgifter liknar på många sätt varandra, med det skiljer sig hur dessa arbetsuppgifter utförs. I Hollywood kan det ofta skådas mer resurser tillgängliga för filmklipparen, men samtidigt också mer inflytande från producenter och filmstudior på deras arbete. Däremot har filmklipparen i Europa ett starkare samarbete med regissören, och enligt dem är deras huvudsakliga uppgift att arbeta fram regissörens vision av filmen.

    By conducting an experiment involving interviews with successful video game music composers

    about the emotions they wish to convey to the players with their music, and a survey questioning

    consumers about what emotions they actually experienced while listening to these musical pieces,

    this bachelor's thesis tries to provide a deeper understanding for music in games and the impact it

    has on the player and whether or not the three composers that has been interviewed has succeeded

    with conveying the emotions they wished to convey to their consumers. The results showed that

    each composer that has participated has been able to convey the music's intended emotions to their

    consumers more or less. Almost none of the musical pieces used stood out as wrongly perceived by

    the survey participants. The preconceptions we have about emotions in music, both generally and in

    video games, has become so deeply rooted that by only listening to a musical piece one can

    determine its emotive state and character.

    Synthen är ett instrument vars ljud inte behöver begränsas av dess fysiska form och utseende i

    samma utsträckning som instrumenten före dess tid. Inte heller är den begränsad till ett

    signifikant ljud utan har möjligheten att producera en enorm variation av både imitativa som

    unika ljud. Men med tidens gång har vi etablerat och fastställt vissa etablerade konventioner

    vid användningen av synthen, underliggande koncepten som tidigare paradigm har skapat

    inom vår förhållningsätt till den.

    Syftet med undersökningen är att belysa två etablerade konventioner i synthens

    användargränssnitt och ljuddesignsfunktion, nämligen klaviatur och förinställda ljud. Detta

    för att sedan med hjälp av tre djupintervjuer forma en bild av hur några av dagens producenter

    av elektronisk musik tycker, tänker och använder sig av dessa funktioner. För att ge en

    referenspunkt till konventionerna som behandlas i intervjuerna har litteratur om synen samt

    utvecklingen av synthen studerats och satts i kontext med paradigmbegreppet.

    Resultatet av undersökningen antyder på att konventionerna inte används i dess ursprungliga

    mening i fallet med de tre informanterna. Dock så letar sig konventionerna in i många av de

    synthar som informanterna använder sig av. Musikstil påverkar även hur producenterna

    använder sig av de etablerade konventionerna, Detsamma gäller även i viss mån användandet

    av synthar i live sammanhang.

    Business system or ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is moving toward developing into so -called global systems. The systems’ functionality should be adapted to the businesses’ and users’ needs. Thus the notion of usability becomes essential.

    Usability of ERP systems is a limited research area. At the same time, it is widely known that ERP-systems’ user interface is a complex issue, which affects usability in a negative way for the users. To investigate the usefulness of usability testing methods can be applied. This was also something that was implemented in the current study when SSAB EMEA wanted to test the user interface usability of the new ERP system that is planned to be implemented soon.

    The study's research questions were: How experienced ERP system users its usefulness? and, How can usability tests be helpful in the configuration of the user interface of an ERP system?. The purpose of this study was to create a deeper understanding of how usability testing can be helpful before configuring the user interface of an ERP system, so that users perceive it useful. A case study was conducted through group interviews and usability tests, where ten users participated.

    The results were analyzed and presented using five usability criteria for ERP systems. Firstly, Navigation shows that users felt the system navigator with folder structure as difficult while shortcuts in the form of icons and links were seen as something positive. Learnability shows that users experienced in the previous system IFS7 found it easy to learn the new system IFS8. Users who lacked previous experience, however, experienced problems and frustration when the system required no obvious commands to perform tasks. Following guidance, also these users experienced that the system was easy to learn. Presentation shows that all the users were positive about the possibility of adapting the user interface along their own work role and how their selves operate. The system's adaptation to the users and the business, Customization, shows that the users were positive towards the system shortcuts in the form of icons and links to activities. Additionally, the users were positive about the prefilled data which were based on the logged in user. Finally, the Task support shows that users requested help functions that already existed in the system, but that was not noticed by the users.

    The implications of the study come to create a deeper understanding of usability in IFS8. This helps to SSAB EMEA, can configure the user interface for enhanced usability. In addition, the study indicates that users are in need of an organized training in the system before it is deployed, in order to enable them to conduct their activities in a satisfactory manner.

    Som aspirerande artist är det ett nålsöga att infria sina drömmar med musiken, många försöker

    men desto färre lyckas. Syftet med denna kvalitativa studie är att undersöka hur aspirerande

    artister beskriver sina drömmar med musiken. Studien ämnar dessutom besvara huruvida

    genretillhörighet upplevs korrelera med hur drömmarna beskrivs. För undersökningen har åtta

    aspirerande artister intervjuats där hälften är pop-artister medan andra halvan består av

    alternativa artister (punk och indie). Forskningsresultatet visar att pop-artisterna i regel

    beskriver större drömmar än de alternativa artisterna. Samtliga respondenter delade dock

    drömmen om att kunna livnära sig på musiken. Däremot tenderade pop-artisterna att drömma

    om större summor pengar än de alternativa artisterna som istället nöjde sig med att kunna

    försörja sig på sitt artisteri. Mellan genrerna delades även viljan att ta musikkarriären så långt

    som möjligt. Resultatet visar dock att det mellan respondenterna råder delade meningar

    huruvida genretillhörighet korrelerar med hur de beskriver sina drömmar. Hälfterna av popoch

    de alternativa artisterna upplevde att genretillhörighet haft en påverkan medan övriga

    respondenter var osäkra eller inte reflekterat över genretillhörighetens påverkan.
