    Abstract [sv]

    It is often challenging to create a new enrichment program for any animal. This is especially true with the additional challenge that I wanted to use only naturalistic enrichment, and I’m working with animals some of which are nocturnal. Even with a many hurdles, a little bit of enrichment can do a big difference and make a big difference in activity levels of the animals. Eskilstuna parkens zoo have a house called the MUSeum housing four kinds of rodents. Rodents are generally much more active at night and spend much of the day sleeping out of sight of the public. One of the goals of starting an enrichment program was to increase the animal’s activity throughout the day to provide an improved guest experience. Many of the guests would stop briefly at the exhibit only seeing the empty exhibit, unaware of that there were animals there. Before starting an enrichment program, I wanted to determine how the rodent was spending their time. By observing the animals’ behaviour for 15 minutes a day at various times throughout the day, for a total of 15 observations, I was able to construct an activity budget for their behaviour. The results obtained were, as expected, that the rodents spent a lot of time resting. By enrichment both with food and the temperature we were able to take the activity to another level, and several new behaviours were observed.

    Abstract [en]

    Background: The development is that more and more people are suffering from dementia, which will mean that the number of people receiving nursing in ordinary housing will increase. The care provided must be person-centered and facilitate everyday life and contribute to an increased quality of life for the person. Aim: To investigate the obstacles and opportunities that affect the nurse's work of applying person-centered care for persons with dementia in ordinary housing. Method: A qualitative design with semi-structured interviews. Nurses working in home care and visiting people with dementia have been interviewed. The interviews were analyzed with qualitative content analysis. Outcome: The study shows that what enables person-centered care for the nurse is to meet the person in his familiar environment, to see relatives as a resource in the care and to work as a team with other professions. What prevents the nurse from applying person-centered care is to be limited by the organization, to lack the competence of the team and not to reach the person. Conclusion: To be able to implement person-centered care the nurse need to have the organizational conditions for enabling this work, in the form of enough time for home visits, the opportunity for teamwork with home care services and dementia teams, as well as the opportunity to support and supervise the carestaff and relatives.

    Abstract [en]

    International research has shown that annual reports are not an obvious source of information för private investors and their investment decisions. In Sweden there is a limited amount of empirical data that shows how this is represented in the swedish stock market. Because of this there is also a lack of empirical data that shows if there is a correlation betweeen the use of and opinion on the relevance of annual reports and the individuals background within economy or business

    A survey was made to gather answers to these questions using members of Sveriges Aktiesparares Riksförbund and the local branch Falun/Borlänge. The results show that annual reports neither can be categorized as important or unimportant withing this group. The respondants in this survey seem to prefer to use more than one source of information when it comes to investment decisions. The results indicate that annual reports can be considered a relatively important part of this bigger context as one of many sources of information. In addition to this, it seems that a person that either have a relevant education or occupational experience value annual reports as more important than those without this background.

    Abstract [en]

    Software deployment can be seen as the process where all activities are included to make a software available to users without a manual installation on the user’s computer or other machine. There are several software deployment tools that manage automated installations available to enterprises on the market today.

    The department HVDC at ABB in Ludvika has needs of starting to use a tool for automated installations of software which currently is installed manually and is time consuming. As Microsoft partners ABB wants to see how Microsoft’s tool for software deployment could help for this need. 

    Our study aimed to investigate how the department´s work with installations of software looks like today and to find opportunities for improvement for installations that can’t be automated at this time. The study also includes to develop a general framework for how businesses can proceed when they want to start using a software deployment tool. The framework also includes a designed requirement specification that will be evaluated against Microsoft´s tool.

    To create an idea of how the work in the business looks like today, we have performed surveys and interviews with staff in HVDC. In order to develop a framework, we have used the data collected from the interviews, questionnaires and group interviews conducted to identify requirements and wishes from the staff of a software deployment tool. Literature studies were also conducted to create a theoretical framework to use when developing the framework and the requirement specification. 

    Our studies have resulted in a description of software deployment, opportunities for improvement in the work of software installations and a general framework that describes how businesses can proceed when they are about to start using a software deployment tool. The framework also provides a set of requirements that have used to evaluate Microsoft's tool for software distribution. In our study we have not seen that anyone before have developed a general framework and requirements specification that businesses can use as a basis when to start using a software deployment tool. Our results of the study can cover up this knowledge gap.

    Abstract [en]

    Arctic Paper Grycksbo is a company that produces paper. The pulp which is used to produce the paper is purchased. The pulp arrives to Arctic Paper in bales which are wrapped with something called wrapping paper. The wrapping paper is similar to the pulp inside of the wrapping, which means it can be used to produce paper. Damage on the bales due to transportation and handling leads to usable pulp being removed from the bales which falls to the ground. The pulp which is removed from the bales remains on the ground (pulp rests) until workers pick it up and place it in a recycling container. This container is then to be emptied and the pulp recycled, if the procedure is working as intended.

    The current recycling procedure has proven to be in need of improvement. This has led to a need of an improvement, either by improving the method/procedure to recycle the pulp, or through preventing the pulp being removed from the bales in the first place. The purpose with this thesis is to investigate- and suggest solutions to which possibilities for improvements there is.

    An investigation of which alternative to achieve this improvement is the better- and calculations of the annual recycling potential has been done. Different concepts has then been generated based on information gathered from the investigation and calculations.

    A new way of handling the pulp which is to be recycled has been suggested in consultation with technicians from Arctic Paper. The suggested new method/procedure enables easier recycling in terms of manual labour and reduces the total costs of the procedure.

    Purpose: The overall purpose with the study was to investigate how active teachers considered physical activity in the swedish school subject ”idrott och hälsa”(physical education). Further the reason was to investigate how teachers follow-up and evaluate the students physical development in secondary school and how the student are getting involved. The study has focused the following questions: • How do teachers of physical education define physical activity? • Do the teachers measure, and in that case how do they measure the students physical development in secondary school? • If they are doing measurments, how do the students get involved? Methods: The survey consisted of an interview study of four active teachers and even a survey of students from the classes of these teachers. Both approaches have been aimed towards the answer the studyquestions, but the main focus has mainly been on the outcome of the interviews. It is through these teachers' thoughts and opinions emerged and student responses from the questionnaires has been useful to see if they can be fed back to the teachers descriptions. Results: The Teachers in the study has no clear periodic testingsystem, where pupils' physical development clearly is measured. The teachers argue to be able to see that students develop physically also without special tests. The moment you book results in which annual returns in the teaching of the four teachers are crosscountry-running. None of the teachers have regular testing in strenght, speed, coordination and movement, and not even half the students state that the teacher after a physical test to discuss the test purpose, student performance and how the connection with previous test results of students' physical development. The teachers seem to fear that the focus should fall too much on profit and competition in tests and thus could not justify the weaker students to want / dare to be involved in teaching. Top-mount seems to be that it is important that students compare with himself and became aware of their own development. A very large proportion of students (62 out of 75) also indicates that they think it is good with physical tests in physical education.

    Under 2000-talet har nya tekniska innovationer både förändrat hur musik spelas in,

    distribueras och konsumeras. Därmed har nya möjligheter skapats för Sveriges

    oetablerade artister, samtidigt som utbudet blivit större och svårare att tränga igenom.

    Uppsatsen undersöker vad oetablerade artister har för åsikter om läget idag och

    fokuserar kring tre huvudområden; musikutgivning, artistens egen karriär samt

    musikbranschen i stort. Med djupintervjuer som metod syftar studien till att undersöka

    vilka problem som står i vägen för en artist som försöker etablera sig och nå ut med sin

    musik till en större publik. Studien har visat på att artister nuförtiden mycket enkelt kan

    spela in och ge ut sin musik vilket skapat en direkt länk till allmänheten. Det är dock

    mycket svårt att få den uppmärksammad, varför branschkontakter fortfarande värderas

    högt i artisters ögon. Det finns samtidigt en viss misstro mot den etablerade branschens

    kommersialism men varierar stort beroende på vilken typ av aktör det rör. Genom mer

    kunskap om fler musikrelaterade uppgifter har artisterna däremot självsäkerheten att

    själva kunna välja samarbetspartners utifrån var den egna kompetensen brister.

    Hur påverkar klippningen gestaltningen av en karaktär i en film? Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka om klippning påverkar gestaltningen av en filmkaraktär och vilka metoder inom filmklippning som kan användas för att uppnå detta. Undersök-ningen sker på huvudkaraktären i filmen

    Swiss Army Man där tre sekvenser analyse-ras med hjälp av Jens Eders modell för att analysera fiktiva karaktärer. Analysen kopplas till tidigare forskning och teorier om filmklippning. Uppsatsen kommer även att testa Eders modell för att undersöka om den är användbar som karaktärsanalysmo-dell för filmkaraktärer.

    Resultatet av undersökningen visar att klippning kan användas som en del av arbetet för att gestalta en filmkaraktär. Det finns klippmetoder som gör att klipparen kan på-verka gestaltningen. Eders analysmetod fungerar att koppla till filmklippning men resultatet kan variera då denna metod är subjektiv och karaktärer kan uppfattas olika av varje individ.

    Det här examensarbetet fokuserar på tallinjens och taluppfattningens relation till varandra och hur den relationen har en viktig del i elevers matematiska utveckling. Forskning visar på att undervisning baserat på tallinjen har potential att skapa en bro mellan det abstrakta och konkreta i skolans matematikundervisning och på så vis hjälpa elever utveckla sin taluppfattning. En god taluppfattning är en viktig faktor för att elever ska kunna skapa en djup förståelse för matematik. Genom att utveckla elevers taluppfattning med hjälp av tallinjen som ett redskap får elever förutsättningar att skapa en god förståelse för tal och tals relation till varandra. En sådan förståelse ger en stabil grund för vidare matematisk utveckling och underlättar för elever att lära sig mer avancerad matematik under deras senare år i skolan. Forskning har visat att genom att inkludera tallinjen som ett naturligt redskap i matematikundervisningen får elever möjlighet att utveckla en mental tallinje, vilken hjälper eleverna att utveckla sin taluppfattning. Studiens resultat har visat på att grundskollärarna upplever att tallinjen har potential att utveckla elevers taluppfattning. Under de genomförda observationerna har det även noterats att undervisning genom tallinjen har förmågan att ge utrymme för utvecklandet av flera olika förmågor vilka är grunden för en grundläggande taluppfattning.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose

    The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of plant-based diets on

    overweight individuals based on previous research. The questions asked were: “Is

    there any evidence that suggest positive effects of plant-based diets on blood

    pressure-, blood sugar-, LDL-cholesterol- and blood lipids levels?” and “Is there

    any evidence that suggest positive effects of plant-based diets on BMI?”

    Method

    This study was conducted as a literature review containing 14 academic journal

    articles with a quantitative approach. The articles were found in databases such as

    PubMed (EBSCO), SportDiscus, Cinahl, Scopus and ERIC. A thematic analysis

    was used in the data compilation that seeks to identify patterns and themes of

    convergence in research. These following objects were researched in relation to

    plant-based diets: BMI, blood pressure-, blood sugar-, cholesterol and blood lipid

    levels.

    Result

    A number of articals showed that following a plant based diet gave significantly

    positive effects on health, such as lowered BMI-measures, blood pressure-, blood

    sugar-, cholesterol-, and blood lipid levels among overweight and obese

    individuals.

    Conclusions

    There is suggestive evidence that plant-based diets demonstrated numerous health

    benefits according to previously conducted research studies. Plant-based diets

    were shown to be effective in prevention of obesity by reducing BMI

    measurements in overweight individuals after following diet interventions.

    Abstract [en]

    Introduction

    : It has become increasingly difficult to protect personal data due to the rapidly evolving technological development. Personal data flow between countries to a large extent, which requires more coherent data protection within the European Union. In May 25th 2018, a new EU regulation will come into force. The regulation will apply in all EU member states and is called GDPR, the General Data Protection Regulation. The regulation will contribute to an increasingly rigorous handling and processing of personal data and hence strengthen the individual's integrity. How the change of law will affect business's marketing efforts is a matter that has emerged.

    Purpose:

    The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to gain knowledge of how companies adapt to the change that GDPR entails and whether changes need to be made in corporate marketing efforts due to GDPR.

    Method:

    The bachelor thesis is inductive and the empirical material is collected using qualitative interviews. A total of nine interviews have been conducted, three mail interviews and six telephone interviews. The companies that have participated in this study works with marketing and handles personal data.

    Results:

    The interviewed companies in the study do not believe that their marketing will be significantly affected. Some companies have and will change certain parts of the communication to the customer, such as changing member terms, clearing personal information, and changes in email and newsletters. In order to get GDPR compliant, most companies educate their employees and clean and enhance their registers.

    Abstract [en]

    At the centre of this study lies the question if normative gender thinking affects the way poetry gets reviewed and how the reviews are written, this in relation to both the gender of the reviewer and the poet. The study crosses three academic fields; gender studies, poetry and journalism, and is based on the cultural studies theory of media affecting and even creating the world around it.

    The study is based on two types of analysis. One quantitative analysis based on the thematic criticism theory about detail studies that shows bigger patterns, this analysis focuses on how the poet and his/hers work are being treated in the reviews in areas such as how much space they´re given in the newspapers, how they are named by the reviewer and the tendency to quote the reviewed work.  And one qualitative analysis based on the new criticism method of close reading, that focuses on the reviewers way of writing and how that may be connected with theories of gender differences, this both connected to the gender of the reviewers and the poets.

    The material chosen for this study are all the reviews that were published in the same newspapers and that reviewed two specific poetry works by two specific poets chosen with great sensibility to age and career so that their difference in gender would be the most significant difference between them. The works were chosen based on year of publishing, they were supposed to be published as newly as possible and as close to each other in time as possible. The works I ended up with were Dimman av allt (2001) and Svart som silver (2008) by Bruno K. Öijer and Silverskåp (2000) and Nu försvinner vi eller ingår (2007) by Birgitta Lillpers.

    The results of this study show several differences in how poetry is being judged and how poetry reviews are being written are connected with the gender of the poets and the reviewer. Lillpers got 35% less space in the newspapers and Öijers poetry got quoted a lot more which confirms that female poetry often is considered as less important than the male poetry, and that men in general tends to be judged as more professional than woman. The male reviewers tended to express themselves with greater certainty than the female reviewers who held a more professional tone in their reviews and focused more on the technical aspects of the poetry. This confirms the theory of the male words are being looked upon as the truth but contradicts the theory of women writing more based on personal experience and of women being less skilled in language techniques.

    In conclusion, there are differences in how poetry gets reviewed and how the reviews are written that are connected to the genders of the poet and the reviewer but these differences are complex and does not show a clear normative way of thinking about gender

    Bakgrund: Skönlitteraturens och filmens roll har skrivits fram som viktiga inslag i undervisningen i kursplanerna genom åren. Mina egna erfarenheter säger mig att skönlitteraturen och filmen får lite plats i undervisningen och att skönlitteratur i kombination med film inte används så mycket.

    Syfte: Syftet med studien är att undersöka vad som skrivs fram gällande skönlitteratur och film i skolan med fokus på skönlitteratur i kombination med film för förskoleklass till och med årskurs tre.

    Metod: Metoden för denna studie är en systematisk litteraturstudie och databaserna som användes för sökningar av litteratur var Google, Google Scholar, Summon@Dalarna och Libris. Även manuella sökningar gjordes på bibliotek och genom mejlkontakt. Texterna som valdes ut granskades och analyserades.

    Resultat: Skönlitteraturen har enligt lärarna en viktig roll för utvecklingen av elevernas ordförråd. Dock kolliderar ofta lärarnas och elevernas syn på skönlitteratur och valet av skönlitterära böcker. Filmen används vanligen som utfyllnad i undervisningen som ett lustfyllt inslag eller som belöning när eleverna gjort något bra. Kombinationen av skönlitteratur och film används sparsamt eller nästintill inte alls, något som kan tyckas märkligt då eleverna omges av både skönlitteratur och film.

    Slutsats: Skönlitteratur förekommer i relativt stor utsträckning när det gäller de högre årskurserna 7 till 9 men i de lägre årskurserna F till 3 upplevs ett tomrum. När det gäller film används det i liten grad och ofta som utfyllnad i undervisningen. Det saknas forskning om att arbeta med film ochskönlitteratur i kombination med varandra, främst i inriktningen mot de yngre åldrarna F till 3. Detta ärdärför ett aktuellt område inför fortsatt forskning.

    Bakgrund: Enligt forskning är skönlitteratur och film viktiga inslag i undervisningen, dock har det inte skrivits så mycket om just kombinationen av skönlitteratur och film. Enligt egna erfarenheter är uppfattningen att man inte arbetar något alls med skönlitteratur och film i kombination med varandra.Syfte: Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka på vilka sätt lärare arbetar med skönlitteratur och film. Syftet var också att undersöka om det förekommer någon form av kombination mellan skönlitteratur och film och i så fall på vilka sätt.Metod: Metoden för denna studie var kvalitativa intervjuer, sex lärare valdes ut och intervjuades. Intervjuerna spelades in och det insamlade materialet analyserades sedan med hjälp av meningskoncentrering.Resultat: Skönlitteraturen har enligt informanterna en viktig roll för elevernas ordförråd, läsförståelse, läsglädje och fantasi och används därför ganska flitigt. Filmen används i stor utsträckning som förstärkning, variation, introduktion och ibland även som upplevelse. Kombinationen av skönlitteratur och film användes av samtliga informanter minst en gång per läsår, något som är positivt och glädjande eftersom det skrivs fram att det gynnar eleverna och eftersom det är aktuellt i dagens samhälle och därigenom elevernas vardagsliv.Slutsats: Både skönlitteratur och film används i stor utsträckning av informanterna. Skönlitteraturen för att väcka läslust och nyfikenhet och för att förbättra ordförråd och läsförståelsestrategier. Filmen som motivation, variation, förförståelse och introduktion. Kombinationen av skönlitteratur och film förekommer hos alla informanter och i form av att jämföra, diskutera och reflektera det som är viktigt för att nå upp till kunskapskraven

    Abstract [en]

    Background: This study is based on how seven nurses experience their work situation in relation to attractive work and what makes them motivated to stay in their workplace. For many years, the department has had a good reputation and there has been low staff turnover among the nurses. The last three to five years, the trend has begun to turn around and staff turnover has started to increase. This means that the knowledge-intensive department faces the challenge of succeeding in retaining its workforce in order to not risk losing the experience, knowledge and expertise the patients need in their care. This is a topical issue when the Swedish healthcare system is faced with challenges in retaining nurses. At the same time, savings in healthcare are increasing the cost of hired labor. The forecasts show that the population is increasing and living longer and at the same time large retirements are taking place. This creates an unsustainable situation where the experience that exists has to be preserved, which means that organizations need to work to become attractive employers in order to be able to maintain nurses.

    Purpose: To investigate which factors that nurses at a care ward in Dalarna experience important in order to stay in their workplace.

    Method: We have moved within the hermeneutic interpretation theory where the direction goes towards interpreting, studying and understanding. In order to investigate the background to individuals choosing to stay in a workplace, we chose a qualitative approach. Qualitative research is presented as contextual because the research is understood in its context in order to increase the understanding of the phenomenon under investigation.

    Result: What emerged from this study is that colleagues are an important motivating factor to stay in the workplace. Most of the nurses who participated in the study feel that everyone's efforts in the department are important. Good cooperation between colleagues contributes to security in the role and a feeling that experiences are valued. Although nurses appreciate working in teams, something that is significant in healthcare, it appears that they want to be recognized for their achievements on an individual level. They are specialists in their profession and feel that the skills development given at the workplace makes them want to stay. At the same time, they want better working conditions in the form of flexible working hours and wages that reflect their performance. They also want a management that is visible in the day-to-day operations and it is appreciated when the management implements improvement proposals that benefit the working conditions.

    Discussion: It`s not possible to ignore the challenges facing the department. The reflections from the nurses regarding the desire to remain in the workplace were affected by the current situation and the challenges they experienced in their working conditions, which also affects the factors that are considered attractive.

    Undersökningens syfte är att bidra med kunskaper om pedagogers motiv till att dela in barnen i mindre grupper i förskolan för att vinna kunskap om vilka effekter gruppindelning har i det pedagogiska arbetet. För att få reda på detta har intervju använts som insamlingsmetod för att få kunskap genom respondenternas uttalanden om deras tillämpning av gruppindelning. De pedagoger som valdes ut som respondenter har lång erfarenhet av yrket och arbetar på samma avdelning och tillämpar gruppindelning under vissa aktiviteter på förskolan, bland annat utifrån ålder.

    Resultatet visar att gruppindelningens motiv har sitt ursprung i att barngruppen är stor vilket orsakar hög ljudnivå i miljön samt kan bidra till psykisk ohälsa hos både barn och personal. Hur pedagogerna väljer att dela in barnen i mindre grupper beror på aktivitetens lärandesyfte. Under några återkommande aktiviteter är barnen indelade utifrån deras ålder. Pedagogerna menar att gruppindelning ger dem mer tid till att se varje barn och att se deras utveckling samt att det ger barnen möjlighet att skapa nya kompisrelationer. Pedagogerna uttrycker även att det blir lättare att planera verksamheten när gruppindelning tillämpas. Pedagogerna berättar även hur barnens kamratkultur påverkas av åldersindelning samt vilka för- och nackdelar olika gruppkonstellationer har i form av åldershomogena och åldersintegrerade barngrupper.

    Utifrån undersökningens resultat kan slutsatsen dras att gruppindelning tillämpas för att underlätta förskolans vardag för både pedagogerna och barnen.

    In the communication industry, the competition is challenging amongst both new graduates looking for employment and those with experience. An im-portant part of the application is a portfolio that visually shows the person's skills and talents.An online questionnaire survey of 50 firms in the communications industry was used to investigate how they recruit new staff, as well as their perspective on the portfolio in this context. The study is also aimed at highlighting differences in the responses, depending on the size of the agencies.The results of the survey showed that the most common way for employment in the communications industry is through personal contacts, and that the quality of the portfolio is the most important when hiring. When applying for a job the agencies preferred to receive a digital portfolio, but at a job interview they pre-ferred a combination of a physical and digital portfolio. Minor differences were found in the responses depending on the size of the agency.

    Under många år har ”invandringsfrågan” varit en mycket debatterad fråga. Detta märks inte minst i alla de insändare som publicerats i Dalarnas morgontidningar. Integration och ekonomi är exempel på ämnen som nämns i dessa insändare då diskursen invandring diskuteras. En betydande faktor i debatten har bland annat varit Sverigedemokraternas valframgångar. Med denna undersökning vill vi försöka kartlägga hur diskursen invandring framställs i insändare från Dala-demokraten. Detta har gjorts med en innehålls- och diskursanalys. Analysen har utgått från insändare mellan tidsperioden augusti-april 2002/2003 och 2014/2015, vilket motsvarar tiden kring de båda riksdagsvalen.Analysen har genererat fyra teman (mångkultur och svenskhet, integrationsfrågan och invandring, demokrati och yttrandefrihet och ekonomi och välfärd) som diskursen invandring kretsar kring. Utifrån dessa teman har vår analys visat att Sverigedemokraternas valframgångar tenderar att delvis influera diskursen invandring som insändarskribenterna förmedlar. Diskursen invandring har gått från att kretsa kring integrationsproblematik 2002/2003 till ekonomisk problematik 2014/2015. Analysen har även visat på ett ”vi och dem”-tänk som genomsyrar diskursen invandring under bägge tidsperioder. Detta sker både genom fördomsfulla framställningar av andra människor och i uppdelningen av vilka som ”bör” få ta del av Sveriges gemensamma medel.

    Background

    : Peripheral venous catheter (PVK) is a plastic catheter placed in a vein to allow drug or fluid infusion. To handle a PVK, there are guidelines on how this should be done in a patient-safe manner. This may be done by authorized personnel. With a PVK there are risks of complications and it is important that these are avoided to avoid unnecessary complications related to PVK. Aim: The purpose is to identify possible factors that can increase the risk of thrombophlebitis and other complications related to peripheral venous catheters. Method: Literature review Results: The literature review show that there are many factors that increase the risk of complications related to PVK. The factors that affect the risk of complications are the following, nurse´s level of knowledge and experience managing PVK, location and size of PVK associated with complications, switching frequency of PVK, emergency insert PVK and planned insert PVK, administrations of drugs and other components of PVK, technical aids and patient conditions. Conclusion: The conclusion of the literature review is that each nurse must take his or her own responsibility to follow current guidelines in order to work in a patient-safe manner in order to minimize the risk of complications. Some factors may affect individual nurses and others not. Complications lead to suffering for the patient. Unnecessary VRI leads to unnecessary suffering for the patient and high costs for society.

    The purpose of the article is to argue for a systematic research approach on space and place, the WHERE-question in the Swedish research field of didactics. Two research traditions in subject and general didactics, focusing the WHAT- and the HOW-question, dominate the field. The educational situation of today is highly digitally driven which motivates the relevance of a more thorough and systematic analysis of the WHERE-question. It is argued that Swedish didactical research, and teaching in school in general, has to amplify the attention to the WHERE-question. Space and place are not empty containers in which social life happens to unfold. Space and place determines the communication, interaction and meaning making of individuals – individuals are always claimed by space and place.

    Abstract [en]

    The ability to express oneself in text has come to be an even more pressuring task due to new media. The use of text in the new media and the school looks slightly different and create different claims on which kind of text activity that are advocated. Language activity and use of text in different spaces and places has become a constituent principle in the western society of today – language and the use of text is seen as the ontological condition for social life. The historical and conventional media notion of public and reception has been replaced by a more complex communication situation due to the digital media. Related to this context and the linguistic turn, three concepts; text action, text conversation and the pedagogy of place are developed and exemplified by a national net community. The theoretical contribution makes it possible to understand and approach the use of text and the complexity this use in different spaces and places articulates. The national net community is discussed in relation to the school exemplifying two different public spaces where new media is put forward illustrating a social situation constituted of text – young people’s use of text practically becomes context. How can we understand and approach this new educational situation?

    Participation as a pedagogy and democratic value turns out to be a critical element in students’ completion of school. Completed education is a regional development project in which a survey has been conducted in order to identify successful strategies to promote completed education in school. In an analysis, in the context of the survey, with an emphasis on school and participation as a pedagogy and democratic value, several findings are shown. It turns out that the importance of participation manifests itself through an emphasis on the societal and democratic mission of school; school ethos; the value praxis of school; pedagogical approach; and viewing the pupil as capable. It is, in more detail, shown that it is particularly crucial to understand the completion of education in school as a pedagogical problem; create sustainable institutional structures not bound to one person; and to make sure that students are participants in their own education.

    Abstract [en]

    Background: Aerobic fitness is of great value for reducing risk of mortality and cardiovascular diseases. Objective: This study evaluated the performance in and correlations between a new test (five-minute pyramid test, 5MPT), the six-minute walk-test (6MWT) and maximal oxygen uptake (VO(2max)) among old and young adults. Methods: Forty-four habitually active adults (females and males), 23 old (64-79 years) and 21 young (20-32 years) participated. In the 5MPT, the participants moved back and forth along a short walkway (5.5 m) over boxes (height: 'old people' 0.42 m, 'young people' 0.62 m) arranged like an elongated step pyramid for 5 min. Power in the pyramid test (5MPT(power)) was calculated as the product of numbers of laps, body weight, gravity and highest box level divided by time. A 6MWT and a maximal cycle ergometer test for direct measurements of VO(2max) were also performed. In all tests heart rate, with on-line electrocardiography, and perceived exertion were recorded. Results: There was a strong correlation between the 5MPT(power) and VO(2max) for the entire group studied (r = 0.98), and each of the four subgroups old and young females and males separately (r = 0.78-0.98). Contrary to several earlier studies, especially involving people with various diseases, the present data showed that 6MWT cannot be used to predict VO(2max) among old females and young adults. The correlation with VO(2max) was weaker for the 6MWT than for the 5MPT(power). The relative performance values for the old compared to the young (ratio old/young × 100) were considerably lower in 5MPT(power) and VO(2max) (47-55%) than in distance and 'work' in the 6MWT (82-86%). Conclusions: The results, with age and gender variations, can be valuable information in health-fitness contexts, since measuring physical aerobic capacity is very significant in connection with risk evaluations of mortality and various diseases. The 5MPT is a rapid, functional, easy and inexpensive tool for predicting assessed maximal aerobic power.

    Abstract [en]

    Aim. This study evaluates the results of and correlations between the six-minute walk-test (6MWT) and a maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) test among physically active young adults.

    Methods. Sixty-three adults (33 females and 30 males) aged 18-38 years participated. 6MWT and a maximal running treadmill test for measurements of VO2max were performed. 6MWT reliability was also evaluated.

    Results. Mean distance in the 6MWT for the females was 848 (685-976) m and for the males 866 (704-1077) m. The gender differences were considerably less for the 6MWT (2%) than in the VO2max test, both normalized to body weight (21%) and in absolute form (35%). The mean values, for the female and male subjects in the VO2max were 46.7 and 58.9 ml/kg/min and 2.94 and 4.53 l/min, respectively. The data showed a very low, not significant, correlation (r=-0.02-0.32) between walking distance in the 6MWT and VO2max.

    Conclusions: The 6MWT-distance for this physically active young adult group, which previously not has been studied, was considerably higher than in earlier reports for various other groups. In contrast to several prior studies, especially involving people with various diseases, the present data, on healthy active adults, showed that distance in the 6MWT cannot predict maximal oxygen uptake. The present results may be related to the low potential of walking as a locomotor form to tax the cardio-respiratory system sufficiently for this group. Since aerobic capacity is correlated with increased survival, these new data and given comparisons with previous reports are specially valuable when evaluating fitness in various sports and health contexts.

    Improved Physical Capacity in a Project with Guided Physical Activity for Persons with Depression or Anxiety.2010Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Background: Higher physical capacity is correlated with increased health. Knowledge in this area regarding psychiatric diseases is sparse. 

    Purpose: The aim was to study aerobic and several strength capacities in a physical activity project for persons with depression or anxiety.

    Methods: Eighty-four persons (56 women and 28 men) with depression or anxiety were recruited from psychiatric out-patient clinics in Stockholm. Their mean age and BMI was 46 (21-80) years and 26 (17-41) kg/m2, respectively. 50% were sick-listed. 50% had BMI>25. Aerobic and strength tests were chosen by each subgroup´s project leaders. Directed physical activity was given, in groups 10-15, 1 hour twice/week during 8-12 weeks.

    Results: Significant changes (p<0.05, of all n=84) between pre- and post tests were seen in submaximal cycle test (11% enhanced values, n=56) and distance of 6 minutes walk test (16%, n=15) as well as in strength tests for the back for the back (i.e. time in static horizontal belly-back, 40%, n=44), abdominal and hip flexors (i.e. number of hip flexion sit-ups, 45%, n=38), leg (i.e. standing with 90O in hips and knees, 48%, n=56) and arm with shoulder muscles (i.e. number of raising weights alternately with the arms, 46%, n=32). Hand grip tests, BMI or blood pressure values did not change significantly.

    Conclusions: Directed 8-12 weeks physical activity programs can improve physical fitness in individuals with depression or anxiety.

    Syftet var att beskriva omvårdnaden kring nyfödda barns tillmatning på svenska BB-avdelningar, om föreskrifter följdes och om hänsyn togs till eventuell allergihereditet. Metod: Deskriptiv tvärsnittsstudie med kvantitativ ansats Resultat: Av alla nyfödda barn vid 26 barnkliniker i Sverige vecka 26 år 2009 (n=849) tillmatades 18 % . Moderns bröstmjölk gavs till 16% medan 78 % tillmatades med komjölksbaserad modersmjölksersättning. Den vanligaste orsaken till tillmatning av ersättning var att mammans egen mjölkproduktion inte hade kommit igång (24 %). Andra vanligt förekommande anledningar till tillmatning var lågt blodsocker (18 %) samt sugproblem hos barnen (16 %). Sexton barn tillmatades trots ett blodsockervärde motsvarande >2.2mmol/l. Vad gäller allergiförekomst tillfrågades endast 37 % av barnens föräldrar före tillmatning. Dokumentation om tillmatning fanns noterat i 80 % av barnens journaler. Motsvarande siffra för mammornas journaler var 34 %. Konklusion: Bristfälliga omvårdnadsåtgärder vidtas i samband med tillmatning av nyfödda spädbarn på BB-avdelningar, där allergifrågor ställs i för låg utsträckning. BB-kliniker har varierande referensvärde för vad som räknas som lågt blodsocker. Omvårdnadsbehov för nyfödda barn och deras föräldrar, där förmedlad kunskap om amningens betydelse, tas inte på allvar och oklara riktlinjer skapar förvirring. Föreskrifter och riktlinjer bör följas i större utsträckning an vad denna studie visar.

    Abstract [sv]

    Att konstruera ett tidtagningssystem för enduro i skogen leder till flera frågor som måste undersökas och besvaras. Vilken kommunikationsteknik ska användas och vilken systemarkitekturisk lösning passar bäst? Att dra kabel ute i skogen är ett bra sätt att lösa det kommunikationstekniska problemet, lösningen är säker och relativt billig. Visst påverkas priset av distansen mellan olika klienter ute i skogen, men alla positiva egenskaper hos tekniken gör denna kostnad värd sitt pris. De geografiska variationer som kan finnas är de som kan spela ut de övriga teknikerna i form av stabilitet. En snabb resultatförmedling kräver ett system som har en väl uppbyggd systemarkitektur. Vid tidtagning kommer data i form av tider skickas från klienterna direkt till huvudservern, ingen mellanlagring sker utan data lagras centralt vilket förespråkas i IRM. Dessutom kommer ingen redundans att accepteras, vilket även det förespråkas av IRM. Det finns även flera andra parametrar som väger för att välja IRM, vilket är det som rekommenderas utifrån den analys som gjorts i denna uppsats.

    språkintroduktion kan vara svårt. Elevernas skolerfarenheter och möjligheter till skolframgång

    ser väldigt olika ut. Denna kvalitativa fallstudie handlar om elever som ska lära sig

    ett andraspråk och vad som kan vara olika faktorer till skolframgång. Lärare och elever på

    språkintroduktion har bidragit med sina erfarenheter och berättelser till denna studie. Det utkristalliserades

    tre teman för skolframgång på språkintroduktion av deras berättelser: ett starkt

    modersmål, elevers skolbakgrund och vikten av engagerade lärare.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis has been carried out in collaboration with Tyréns project Articulated Funiculator developing emerging vertical transport which in this case is meant to be used in SL deep station in Stockholm.The aim of this work is to is to develop propulsion concepts for Articulated Funiculator and through concept selection sort out the optimum for SL deep station. To achieve the purpose, studies have been undertaken of literature and reports followed by workshops and customer surveys. Then a pairwise comparison has been made, QFD, concept generation and a two-stage concept selection made.Result is that the optimum propulsion system for SL deep station in Stockholm is a system of linear motors mounted between the tracks.

    Abstract [en]

    This BA-thesis investigates if the aspects dynamic range, color reproduction and resolution have any effects on how an audience experiences the quality of video/moving images. Today, with fast evolving technology, camera manufacturers have to keep producing new cameras to keep up with their competitors. This saturates the market and makes it harder for filmmakers not knowledgeable about how a camera works and what’s important. In our experience, filmmakers and camera manufacturers focus more on the technical specifications of cameras than what the production actually needs. To answer our question about the three camera aspects, we have conducted two different kinds of studies. The first one is objective, free of opinions and contains only data on how four different cameras compare with one another. After that, we compare the data from this study with a public survey where we show an audience four movies that might appear exactly the same but are filmed with different cameras, the same cameras as in the objective tests.

    What we discovered is that dynamic range, color reproduction and resolution have little to no effect on how the audience experiences the video/moving images. The aspect that had the most effect on the audience was color, but reproduction accuracy was not the important factor and fell out of the scope of our study.

    Abstract [en]

    This essay investigates how rape victims are shown in two different Swedish newspapers (Dagens nyheter and Aftonbladet) and if there are any differences depending on the victim’s sex. The study is using critical discourse analysis for the selected news articles to find out if the views differentiate. To be able to do this we have based our research in gender theory and the theory of stigma created by Goffman.

    The results if this study generates three categories: "ideal victims", "non-ideal victims" and "male victims". Apart from these, another category was detected: "discussion or debate articles". Articles that categorises as "ideal victims" contains fewer details of the crime than the articles about "non-ideal victims". The category "male victims" vas created because the articles from this category was seriously diminished, we could on the other hand also apply the two previously stated categories on this one. The articles from the discussion or debate category brings up the problems of rape in a more general matter. The majority of these are speaking to or about women. The conclusion of this study is that media is presenting male and female rape victims differently. This shows, among other conclusions, that articles about female victims contains more details about the victim than articles about men; articles about men do in general rapport lesser details. This contributes to media’s control over the general view on rape victims and have therefor the opportunity to make this situation better. Media can create a more equal image of male and female victims where both will be needing support from society.

    Syftet med detta arbete var att undersöka vilka omvårdnadsåtgärder och vilken form av undervisning som sjuksköterskor kan använda sig av för att bevara eller förbättra livskvaliteten hos patienter med hjärtsvikt. Arbetet genomfördes som en systematisk litteratur studie och analyserades med hjälp av kvalitetsgranskning av litteraturen. Vid artiklarnas kvalitetsgranskning framkom omvårdnadsåtgärder för patienter med hjärtsvikt, som sedan evidensgraderades. Av resultatet framgick att sjuksköterskans omvårdnadsåtgärder hos patienter med hjärtsvikt som befanns vila på starkt vetenskapligt underlag var att undervisa patienter med hjärtsvikt, att uppmana till fysisk aktivitet och att främja socialt stöd. Resultatet i föreliggande studie visade att träning gav effekt och att fysisk aktivitet var av betydelse när det gällde att bibehålla och förbättra den hälsorelaterade livskvaliteten. Socialt stöd befanns vara en grundläggande faktor för den hälsorelaterade livskvaliteten, och bör anpassas efter den enskilde patientens behov och önskemål. Slutsatsen var att en av sjuksköterskans mest betydelsefulla omvårdnadsåtgärder var att stödja och undervisa patienter med hjärtsvikt och att hjälpa henne sätta upp individanpassade mål. Resultatet diskuterades utifrån Callista Roys omvårdnads teoretiska modell: Roy Adaptation Model (RAM).

    OR-processen: En arbetsmetod för bättre arbetsmiljö genom Ordning & Reda2008Report (Other academic)

    Under 2005 och 2006 har Tema Arbetsliv inom Högskolan Dalarna genomfört ett tillämpat forskningsprojekt inom ramen för projektet ”Attraktivt Arbete”. Projektet har haft arbetsnamnet OR - 2005 och har genomförts med syfte att pröva hur en arbetsmetod för ”ordning och reda”, en metod som utvecklats för verkstadsindustrin, kan anpassas för annan verksamhet. Tio företag/organisationer har medverkat i projektet. Processarbetet hos dessa har genomförts under perioden april till november 2005. Sammanlagt har ca 65 personer aktivt medverkat i projektet. Det totala antalet personer som berörts, direkt och indirekt av processarbetet uppgår till drygt 300 personer. Resultaten visar att metoden och arbetssättet är generellt och kan användas inom många olikartade verksamheter. Den skillnad som finns, och som metodens arbetssätt stöder, är de områden och faktorer som berörs av processen inom olika branscher. Samtliga medverkande företag/organisationer har kunnat använda metoden och även uppnått en bättre ordning & reda i sitt arbetssätt och/eller sin fysiska arbetsmiljö (lokaler och verktyg). Flera av företagen/organisationerna har även beskrivit att OR-processen förbättrar det dagliga arbetet som nu löper mer effektivt efter att processen genomförts. En viktig framgångsfaktor i OR-processen ligger i det att beslutade rutiner utgår från vad man på arbetsplatsen kan vara överens om. En annan viktig framgångsfaktor bygger på det engagemang som växer ur mätningen av framåtskridandet. Detta är även en av metodens styrkor – att resultatet av processen är kopplats till engagemanget hos chef och medarbetare. OR-processen kan i sig inte beskrivas som en metod för att specifikt hantera arbetsmiljöfrågor men det visar sig att många av de rutiner som tagits upp och som man på arbetsplatserna kommit överens om ligger inom arbetsmiljöområdet. OR-processen är lätt att använda, ger tydliga och snabba resultat som uppskattas av såväl ledning som medarbetare. Nyttan uppväger väl den insats som behövs i form av tid och engagemang.
