Building trust in times of crisis: A panel study of the influence of satisfaction with COVID‐19 communication and management2024Ingår i: Journal of Contingencies and Crisis Management, ISSN 0966-0879, E-ISSN 1468-5973, Vol. 32, nr 1, artikel-id e12531Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

This study examines the relationship between citizens' satisfaction with government COVID-19 communication and management (SWCCM) and institutional trust. By employing a longitudinal approach, using three-wave panel data from Sweden from 2020 to 2022, the study addresses the current lack of research on the interplay between SWCCM and institutional trust across different stages of a societal crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic. The results show that SWCCM increased slightly over the pandemic period, while trust in institutions slightly decreased. The study also finds that changes in SWCCM predict changes in trust in institutions, suggesting that increased satisfaction with communication and management is associated with increased trust in institutions. Additionally, we find that higher initial levels of SWCCM contribute to a faster decline in trust over time. However, no evidence supports the idea that initial trust in institutions predicts changes in SWCCM. This suggests a unidirectional relationship where SWCCM is a key driver of institutional trust during a crisis. Overall, the study uncovers intriguing dynamics in the relationship between SWCCM and trust over time, and it emphasizes the significance of effective and consistent communication and management in maintaining and boosting public trust during crisis.

Muslimer på vita duken.: Från fientliga stereotyper till nyfikenhet och nyansrikedom2024Ingår i: Gudsbilder i förändring / [ed] Axelson, Tomas, Essunger, Maria, Nausner, Michael och Wigorts Yngvesson, Susanne, Stockholm: Verbum Akademisk, 2024Kapitel i bok, del av antologi (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [sv]

Women and peace: A gender approach to peace through tourism2024Ingår i: A Research Agenda for Peace and Tourism, Edward Elgar Publishing Ltd. , 2024, s. 157-173Kapitel i bok, del av antologi (Övrigt vetenskapligt)
    Abstract [en]

The role of women in peacebuilding and security is imperative. Even though much research exists on women in tourism and women in peace, scarce attention has been paid on the role of women in the peace through tourism research field and how gender roles influence this field. In this chapter, we aim to respond to this research gap and conceptually examine the role of women in the peace through tourism goal. Specifically, we explain the importance of women in peacebuilding before analysing their role in peace through tourism using a feminist economics approach. We conclude the chapter with a discussion of how the relevant research agenda can be advanced as well as offer practical insights that need to be taken into consideration if the peace through tourism goal will be more appropriately addressed in terms of gender.

Deportations of Roma from Hungary and the Mass Killing at Kamianets-Podilskyi in 19412024Ingår i: Holocaust and Genocide Studies, ISSN 8756-6583, E-ISSN 1476-7937Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

At the end of August 1941, the Nazi German Einsatzgruppe, together with German Police Battalion 320 and Ukrainian auxiliaries, killed approximately 23,600 persons (mainly Jews) at Kamianets-Podilskyi. While some researchers assert that Roma were deported from Hungary and Hungarian-occupied Transcarpathia (present-day Ukraine) despite the absence of official reports, other scholars argue that Hungarian leaders may have planned to ethnically "cleanse" the area of Roma, but the plan was never executed, resulting in no deportations or deaths. This article presents new findings that support the former position, and argues that roughly one thousand Roma were expelled from Transcarpathia. New evidence includes a report detailing the ongoing operation to expel Roma, census data indicating a significant reduction in the Roma population near the border, as well as indications that individuals other than Jews were expelled, likely Roma. Only circumstantial evidence-verbal orders to eliminate Roma and reports of Roma killings by the same special commando in different locations-supports the claim that Roma were killed in the August 1941 massacre, though later reports from 1942 explicitly identify Roma victims. After analyzing this new evidence, the author supports the claim that Roma were deported and potentially killed earlier than had previously been known.

Nutrient policies and the performance of aquaculture in developed countries: a literature review2024Ingår i: Aquaculture Economics & Management, ISSN 1365-7305, E-ISSN 1551-8663, s. 1-30Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Eutrophication is  a  serious problem in  many parts of  the world, and aquaculture production can  contribute to  the problem as  well  as  be  part  of  its  solution. Nutrient polices in developed countries are  often command-and-control policies that  may  have contributed to  the  slow growth of  the  sector. We  perform a  literature review to  investigate how current nutrient polices affect the  sector and  if  economic incentive policies have greater potential to  support sector growth. Although the  literature is  limited in  many aspects, the  results indicate that  this  may be  the  case. Given that  the  ability to measure, monitor and  control has  improved over time, possi-bilities for  using economic incentive policies have increased. For  example, subsidies that  are  results-based, i.e.,  based on the amount of emissions that are reduced, could be used. It is also possible for aquaculture production to benefit from being included in  emissions trading systems, where these are available.

Can Participation in Mock Elections Boost Civic Competence among Students?2024Ingår i: Journal of Political Science Education, ISSN 1551-2169, E-ISSN 1551-2177, s. 1-18Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Mock elections are an increasingly popular form of  active learning, adopted in many European countries and the United States. However, we have limited knowledge regarding the extent to  which they enhance students’ civic competence. This article analyzes data from over 9,000 students aged 13-19 who participated in  a  2022 mock election in  Sweden. The goal is  to determine the extent to which mock elections boost civic competence, with an emphasis on potential variations related to  gender, ethnic background, and edu-cational stage. Results indicate that such participation positively influences students’ self-reported political knowledge and, to  a  lesser extent, their political interest, engagement, and efficacy. Yet, the impact varies among student demographics. For instance, foreign- born students reported greater effects than their Swedish-born coun-terparts. Female students displayed heightened political knowledge and interest compared to  males, while male students demonstrated higher political engagement. Interestingly, mock elections seemed to enhance political knowledge more in  primary school students than in  secondary school ones. Conversely, they had a  more pronounced impact on the political interests and engagement of secondary school students. The study concludes with suggestions for future research to  employ more rigorous methods to  assess the influence of  mock elections on civic competencies.

Strategic, episodic and truncated orientations to planning in post-redundancy career transitions2024Ingår i: Human Relations, ISSN 0018-7267, E-ISSN 1741-282X, s. 1-31Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

This article examines different orientations to planning in the context of the post-redundancy transition of workers in the Swedish steel industry. The aim of the article is to extend our understanding of the role of planning in careers transitions. Drawing on careers transitions theories, the article explores the qualitative experience of the journey between a redundancy event and the employment situation several years later. Within the careers literature planning is regarded as important to transitions, yet there is a tendency to present planning as an ongoing and lifelong process. By going beyond the prevalent focus within the career literature on managerial, professional or creative industries workers, the article raises the question of whether highly agential, ongoing, lifelong approaches to planning apply to everyone. Data are based on working-life biographical interviews conducted several years after redundancy. The findings show that although some participants resembled assumptions within the careers literature, there are key variations relating to ongoing planning, reflecting differences in the expectations of agency and perceptions of structural constraint. The analysis identifies three orientations to planning – strategic, episodic and truncated – and explores these in relation to both post-redundancy transition outcomes and, crucially, the experience of the transition journey.

Policy Diffusion, Environmental Federalism, and Economic Efficiency - How Institutions Influence the Implementation of EU Legislation in Two Nordic Countries2024Ingår i: Journal of Benefit-Cost Analysis, ISSN 2194-5888, E-ISSN 2152-2812Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

We explore the changes in central government administration due to European Union (EU) membership and its consequences for policy outcomes and economic efficiency in Finland and Sweden. Both countries became members of the EU in 1995. Upon joining the union, member states are expected to adopt common legislation and are encouraged to develop similar rule-making procedures. The actual implementation of EU directives varies considerably between member states, however. This is also the case for Finland and Sweden. Despite the two Nordic countries for historical reasons having had similar government systems, upon becoming members of the EU, they started to diverge. Using a model of delegation and comparing the more centralized Finnish system with the decentralized institutional setup in Sweden, we show that the Swedish approach leads to a stricter than optimal environmental policy, which in turn makes EU policy non-optimal from a global point of view, ceteris paribus. We also provide empirical support for our findings in the form of some example cases. We focus on environmental policy since this is an area that has been high on the EU agenda. © The Author(s), 2024. The impact of voluntary sustainability adjustments on greenhouse gas emissions from food consumption – The case of Denmark2024Ingår i: Cleaner and Responsible Consumption, ISSN 2666-7843, Vol. 12, artikel-id 100164Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

In this study we ask how a range of environmental sustainability adjustments that consumers find it easy to adoptaffect the carbon footprint of their food consumption. The study is based on information about real purchases offood products and responses to a questionnaire about the various sustainability adjustments that the studyparticipants apply and their concern about climate change. Based on principal component and regressionanalysis the results from the study indicate that sustainability adjustments such as organic consumption, buyingdomestically produced food and eating seasonal produce, as well as concern about climate change, are associatedwith a reduced carbon footprint from food consumption. The largest reductions were found for organic consumers. The results suggested that most committed organic consumers have a carbon footprint that is about onethird smaller than that of consumers who seldom buy organic food products. The results also indicate that thesevoluntary sustainability adjustments are not sufficient to secure conformity with today’s goals for reducedgreenhouse gas emissions.

Mellan tradition och reform: Pedagogiska examensuppsatsämnen vid två svenska folkskoleseminarier 1915–19372024Ingår i: Nordic Journal of Educational History, ISSN 2001-7766, E-ISSN 2001-9076, Vol. 11, nr 1, s. 25-51Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Between tradition and reform: Pedagogical essay topics at two Swedish teacher training seminars, 1915–1937.

During the beginning of the twentieth century, a series of school reforms was carried out in Sweden. One concerned the education of elementary school teachers. In this article, we examine which knowledge and teaching ideals that was posed by some of those who had the task of putting this reform into practice. At the center are the nearly five hundred essay topics that were offered at the teacher training seminars in Lund (only male apprentices) and Falun (only female apprentices) 1914–1937. The results advocate that two rather different local cultures of knowledge were developed at the two seminars. While the essay topics that were offered in Lund mostly seems to promote a more traditional reproductive view on teaching, the ones proposed in Falun rather appears to encourage a much more reformistic understanding of schooling. Hence it is suggested that the latter might be understood as an aspiration to establish a more autonomous and independent women teacher identity.

‘Oh my god what is happening?’: historic second home communities and post-disaster nostalgia2023Ingår i: Journal of Heritage Tourism, ISSN 1743-873X, E-ISSN 1747-6631, Vol. 18, nr 3, s. 337-348Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Nostalgia is an important concept in the study of heritage tourism, especially as a push factor, but less attention is devoted to how nostalgia influences place attachment and vice versa, especially in relation to both individual and collective community experiences. While place attachment has been discussed in the context of second homes, nostalgia has received little attention, with none directed specifically at historic second home communities or those which had recently experienced a disaster. Therefore, this paper presents an analysis of semi-structured interviews conducted among second homeowners in Ocean Beach, New York, which is a century-old second home community with a rich local heritage that was hit by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. The findings show that the respondents display different aspects of nostalgia, in particular endo- and meso- nostalgia. This work conceptualizes meso-nostalgia as an umbrella term for the previously discussed nostalgias which focus on the gray area between personal and collective memories. The findings also show the respondents’ deep connection to the second home landscape, but there was a marked difference between respondents with inherited second homes and those who had purchased them wherein inherited homeowners’ nostalgia was closer to those of permanent residents in previous studies.

Labour–management relations and employee involvement in lean production systems in different national contexts: A comparison of French and Swedish aerospace companies2023Ingår i: Economic and Industrial Democracy, ISSN 0143-831X, E-ISSN 1461-7099, Vol. 44, nr 4, s. 1027-1051Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Existing research has found heterogeneity in the implementation of Lean and its outcomes in terms of employee involvement across countries. This article explores the potential role of labour–management relations. It relies on in-depth company case studies carried out in the aerospace industry in France and Sweden. The study finds significant variations in employee involvement – higher in the Swedish than in the French cases. Managerial orientations did play a role, as the ‘technocratic’ form of Lean in France echoed a more unilateral top-down conception of management, while Swedish managers appeared more receptive to the ‘involvement-enhancing’ paradigm. But the attitudes and behaviours of unions were also a crucial factor, as Swedish unions were very effective in impinging on the implementation of Lean at workplace level, while their French counterparts, often divided, adopted a more defensive stance, lacking expertise and implication in the promotion of high-involvement work organisations.

Lokala partsrelationer och organisatorisk flexibilitet: omställningar inom hotellbranschen under covid-19-krisen 2020–20212023Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [sv]

Pious protagonists: Using the screen to expand images of Muslim faith beyond the dichotomy of "good" and "bad"2023Ingår i: Media kultura komunikacja spolecna, ISSN 1734-3801, nr 19, s. 9-22Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

This article analyzes how movies have been reproducing a pejorative and stereotypical storytelling regarding Muslims and Arabs for more than a century, mainly along a narrow-minded dichotomy between “bad” fanatic religious extremists or “good” non-religious secularized Muslims. The aim has moreover been to explore alternative storytelling combined with applying a model to discuss emotional engagement among movie goers. The conclusion is that mainstream movie culture is still indebted to stereotypical images of Islam/Muslims. But things are changing. More nuanced storytelling has been taking place lately, giving room for a broader spectrum of Muslim religious identity positions, including examples of religious wisdom and spiritual integrity, offering the audience imagery beyond the stereotypical “good” and “bad” dichotomy. Looking outside Hollywood and European mainstream films, new voices are heard, making way for a larger spectrum of positions.

SMEs' regional diversification: dynamic patterns and home market institutional determinants2023Ingår i: International Marketing Review, ISSN 0265-1335, E-ISSN 1758-6763Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Purpose: The authors seek to advance the understanding of small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) internationalization at the regional level and examine the role of home market institutions in this process. Design/methodology/approach: The authors analyze hypotheses with data from SMEs in five country markets and from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor. A cluster analysis establishes the regional diversification patterns (based on regional diversification scope, speed and rhythm) and a multinomial regression tests the effect of home market institutions on their adoption. Findings: The results offer a refined picture of SME regional diversification by revealing three patterns: intra-regionally focused firms, late inter-region diversifiers and early inter-region diversifiers. They also suggest that the adoption of these patterns is determined by SMEs' home market institutions. Originality/value: The authors develop a nuanced understanding of SME internationalization by building upon and expanding the regionalization rationale in the internationalization patterns literature. Additionally, the authors address the acknowledged, yet rarely investigated, country-level determinants of internationalization patterns. © 2023, Emerald Publishing Limited.

The Didactic Function of Narratives: Teacher discussions on the use of challenging, engaging, unifying, and complementing narratives in the history classroom2023Ingår i: Historical Encounters: A journal of historical consciousness, historical cultures and history education, E-ISSN 2203-7543, Vol. 10, nr 1, s. 44-59Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

At a time when society is characterised by a polarised social climate, it is teachers who need to contribute to a nuanced orientation of the world. This article looks at the ways historical narratives can be used as a collective didactic resource in the historical-cultural context of contemporary society. Its purpose is to analyse the didactic function that underlies historical narratives in relation to students’ understanding of society. Our study builds on three focus group interviews with six upper-secondary-school teachers of history and social studies. The method used is the stimulated-recall interview whereby teachers talk about various teaching situations. Four uses of historical narratives were identified, each with its own didactic function. The first is the use of the “challenging” narrative, the function of which is to disrupt and realign students’ understanding of society. The second is the use of the “engaging” narrative: its function is to involve and activate students in their present understanding of society. The third is the use of the “unifying” narrative, the function of which is to bridge contradictions within society. The fourth and final narrative is the “complementing” narrative, whose function it is to broaden and open students’ understanding of society. To address students in terms of their present understanding of society, teachers employ these four narratives as didactic resources. In such a way, these uses of historical narratives tie in with the teachers’ overall aim to contribute an alternative perspective to students’ current understanding of society. As such, the results reveal the general theoretical knowledge teachers have relating to their profession.

Swedish Evangelical Mission, Popular Mobilization for Schooling and Egalitarian ideals in Ethiopia 1868–19352023Ingår i: Narratives of education in times of colonization and decolonization in Africa (1920s – 1970s) / [ed] Jean-Luc Martineau, Pierre Guidi, Ellen Vea Rosnes, Leiden: Brill Academic Publishers, 2023, 1Kapitel i bok, del av antologi (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

A fairly large number of the social reformers and intellectual elite that emerged in Ethiopia in the decade before the 1936 Italian occupation - one of the most articulate groups of intellectuals that Ethiopia has ever seen - had a background in the Swedish Evangelical Mission (SEM). After 1936, resistance to Italian Fascist rule appears to have been most intense among those with a Protestant education and particularly those with a SEM schooling. Interestingly, very little is known about the SEM connection. The chapter explores what in the SEM schooling may have promoted the modernizing views. How were egalitarian and democratic ideals born in Swedish 19th century popular movements transmitted to SEM schools? To what extent can literacy be seen as a prime mover in spreading modernizing values? In what way did developments in Ethiopia bounce back to Sweden with new knowledge about the outside world – and thus contribute to the modernization of that country too? The article is inspired by what largely can be characterized as Global history. In my case, this evolves around questions of how disparate regions have been subject to a number of simultaneous cross-cultural and long-distance influences – the proliferation of knowledge, expertise, and ideas between regions and areas. As part of such global entanglements, Swedish missionaries and their counterparts in Africa can be said to have functioned as “portals of globalisation”, serving as entrance points for cultural transfer and global connectedness. In providing the empirical sources, my research draws on previous research on the SEM and the huge collection of source materials provided by the SEM periodicals. My attempt is to demonstrate that the SEM-factor was an essential component when contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the pre-war Ethiopian modernization and nation building process.

Missionary Sources and African History: The Case of two Swedish Lutheran Missions2023Ingår i: Africa as Method. Abstract [en]

This article explores contrary tendencies in the missionary sources of the two major Swedish Lutheran missions operating in Africa from around the 1890s to the 1930s: the Swedish Evangelical Mission (SEM) in Eritrea-Ethiopia beginning in 1865 and the Church of Sweden Mission (CSM), from the early 1870s in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The attempt is to shed light on the distinctiveness, the scope and the categorization of different materials and how social and political tendencies are seen in the archival sources. Originating from the Swedish 19th century popular mobilization from below, the SEM was a vehicle for egalitarian ideals and the modernization of society, manifest in its educational endeavours in Eritrea-Ethiopia, but also in a criticism of local, traditional Ethiopian society. The CSM, on the other hand, representing a romanticist-inspired, nationalist folk church movement, had rather been formed against the forces of modernity. In KwaZulu-Natal, the missionaries encouraged Zulu history, culture, ethnic and national unity in the face of an aggressive colonialism and capitalism. The two missions shared the Swedish Lutheran background, but the divergent tendencies of the sources indicate that social and political background overruled both national and confessional belonging as well as the different contexts of their mission fields respectively.

    A Phenomenological Alternative to Screenplay Development Methods2023Ingår i: Linguistics and Literature Studies, ISSN 2331-642X, E-ISSN 2331-6438, Vol. 11, nr 1, s. 11-23Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

As a lecturer and scholar in the field of screenwriting, one may grow frustrated with the hegemony of classical dramaturgy, which lays like a wet blanket over the creative writing and carries imbedded patriarchal values which inevitably rub off on the content. This article will show that the story structure method reduces film writing to a mere narrative process without regard or humility for the multimodal qualities and capabilities of cinema to create sensual experiences for a participating audience. It will point out the risks of this alignment for cinema, making the film stories predictable but at the same time estranged from everyday life. Hence, the article will propose an alternative method to the screenplay template: cinematic world-building, based on artistic processes in a hermeneutic framework and a phenomenological approach to the experience of the film world, which transforms the viewer - from voyeur to co-creator. The purpose of the method is to give the screenwriting students a greater understanding of the abilities of the audio-visual elements - as units and as cooperating constellations - to build moods, content, themes and to develop their stories from cinematic spaces with alternative narrative structures. The article will display a trial of the first step of the method performed in a BA scriptwriter course with a very good reception from the students. Their work and their reflections on their writings and on the method are presented. Some shortcomings are discovered, but above all, the method is perceived to have good potential for further development.

The double-sided nature of lifestyle-oriented work within the Swedish equine sector: Characteristics and consequences for employee health and well-being2023Doktorsavhandling, sammanläggning (Övrigt vetenskapligt)
    Abstract [en]

This thesis considers the nature of lifestyle-oriented work, i.e. making a livelihood based on leisure interest or personal lifestyle, and focuses on the perspective of employees within the Swedish equine sector. The purpose was to gain an increased understanding of the characteristics of lifestyle-oriented work and the consequences for health and well-being.

The thesis has a case study research design with two embedded units, riding schools and trotting stables, and a mixed methodological approach based on questionnaires and interviews.

The findings show that employees experienced their work as both important and attractive with loyalty, relations, and stimulation being important factors for work attractiveness (Paper I). The employees found their work meaningful and worked primarily to achieve self-realization and quality of life. Person–environment fit, task significance, and occupational culture emerged as important factors for meaningfulness. However, the work had an inherent duality as the same factors both promoted and challenged the experiences of work attractiveness and meaningfulness (Paper II). The safety climate was found to be relatively good, despite some risk acceptance (Paper III), although the results indicated shortcomings regarding occupational health and safety management (OHSM) (Papers III and IV). Moreover, motivation, management, occupational culture, and resources affect both participation and compliance in OHSM (Paper IV).

Lifestyle-oriented work within the equine sector can be described as double-sided, i.e. both satisfying and demanding. The work is characterized by attraction, meaningfulness, prosocial behavior, and a strong occupational culture but also an acceptance of challenging working conditions, overwork and deficient conditions for OHSM. A systematic OHSM, where both health-promoting factors and risk factors are considered, is necessary to enhance employee health and well-being and to create attractive and sustainable employment.

Using teaching and learning regimes in the international classroom to encourage student re-subjectification2023Ingår i: Journal of Applied Learning & Teaching, ISSN 2591-801X, Vol. 6, nr 1, s. 81-92Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

This paper addresses one of the pedagogical challenges that followed the presence of increasingly multinational student groups, particularly the increased diversity of academic backgrounds among students. Theoretically, this challenge can be understood as an encounter between different teaching and learning regimes (TLRs). TLR, coined by Trowler and Cooper (2002), implies a constellation of assumptions, rules, relationships, and practices regarding the conduct of higher education that colours academic staff members’ performance in their profession. It has become a widely used heuristic tool in the reflection process among university staff. It is shown in this paper that TLRs are not only a heuristic tool that can be applied in teacher reflection but may also be fruitfully applied in the classroom in student-teacher interaction. Consequently, we decided to bring the TLR into the classroom. The written student reflections constitute the empirical material that this analysis is based on. We approach these reflections as expressions of confessions of the Self, as laid out by Michel Foucault. We conclude that it is useful for the students to reflect upon TLR’s, but simultaneously, such an approach runs the risk of enhancing pedagogical and epistemological conformism at the neoliberal university. © 2023. Understanding challenges in studying visitor’s compliance to recreational funding models: Lessons learnt from a study of cross-country skiers in Sweden2023Konferensbidrag (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

This study is the first research output coming out from a newly launched project on Recreational mobility and trails in mountain destinations: Understanding Behavioural insights and New technology in relation to funding systems for high quality trails in a Swedish context, funded by the Swedish KK-foundation. The overall purpose is to analyse prerequisites for funding and management of trails as part of developing nature-based tourist destinations. This specific study looks at the challenge of understanding the consumer behaviour of tourists when it comes to the decision to contribute to trail funding by buying a trail pass and to understand if and how context of resort ownership, other visitors’ behaviour and the social norm, matters for the decision. With a quantitative approach and 346 filled in surveys we are sharing lessons learnt hwo to measure actual behaviour towards criticial questions.

    Abstract [es]

    A sustainable afterlife for post-industrial sites: balancing conservation, regeneration and heritage tourism2023Ingår i: European Planning Studies, ISSN 0965-4313, E-ISSN 1469-5944, Vol. 31, nr 3, s. 641-661Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Giving industrial sites new life requires enabling change and overcoming change resistance. By cross-fertilizing relevant managerial and urban development literature, this study develops a theoretical and analytical framework that integrates several factors that can lead to the sustainable transformation of post-industrial sites. Case evidence collected using qualitative methods at the Great Copper Mountain WHS, Sweden, reveals a Managerial innovation model of industrial heritage regeneration which fails to fully engage the surrounding communities. This model is associated with early-stage post-industrial heritage tourism. The resistance, controversy and community misperceptions hindering the adaptive reuse of the site's industrial heritage and urban surrounds are mainly determined by institutional norms arising from the industrial monoculture. Change management entails working to dismantle lock-ins and empower change at different levels.

Plant-based food – Purchasing intentions, barriers and drivers among different organic consumer groups in Denmark2023Ingår i: Journal of Cleaner Production, ISSN 0959-6526, E-ISSN 1879-1786, Vol. 419, artikel-id 138256Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

How do we design policies that support a shift in eating habits towards a diet that includes more vegetable-basedproducts and less meat, and in particular red meat? To inform policy, more information is needed about consumers’perceptions of the plant-based protein alternatives that have become available on the market. Thepresent study of 1000 Danish consumers examined oat drink and plant-based mince as substitutes for cows’ milkand minced beef. While the popularity of these is increasing, in 2021 70% of Danish consumers had nonethelessnever tried using oat drink or plant-based mince. Respondents who stated that they often bought organic foodwere more likely to associate the plant-based products with benefits as well as being more likely to have triedusing the plant-based products. While plant-based products were associated mainly with public good characteristics,it was private good characteristics that explained consumption of the products. Therefore, improvingtaste – or changing people’s expectations about it – and reducing price are ways to reduce barriers to consumption.Initiatives to improve public understanding of the ways in which plant-based and animal-basedproducts differ are also important, as many respondents were somewhat unclear about which characteristicsthey associated with the two products.

    Abstract [en]

The Baltic presidents have in common that they are supposed to embody the ‘nation’ and to provide an image of their countries abroad. But can the president embody the people if “the people” itself is divided? In this paper, we will focus on public trust in the presidency between the majority and minority population in the Baltic states. Drawing on public opinion surveys, the aim is to examine the determinants of public trust in the presidential institution and support for the performance and principles of the political system as well identification with the political community itself. Among our findings, we conclude that ethnic or linguistic identity explains trust to a considerable degree, which suggests that trust is not only an expression of specific political support but also part of a more deep-seated, diffuse support.

The future of carbon labeling - Factors to consider2023Ingår i: Agricultural and Resource Economics Review, ISSN 1068-2805, Vol. 12, nr 120Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Compared to other policy instruments that aim to change consumer behavior, information provision is perhaps the least controversial. An important question is how information in the form of carbon labels can contribute to direct food consumption toward reduced climate impact. From a policy guidance perspective, there is a need to identify how the labeling strategy affects consumers' ability to identify lower emitting food products and the behavioral change due to carbon information. Key aspects of a carbon label are discussed, as well as the implications of different labeling schemes. Drawing on economic and behavioral theories, we propose that, to assist consumers in identifying changes in consumption that contribute to significant reductions in their climate impact, a carbon label must enable comparisons between product groups and not only within narrowly defined product groups. This suggests mandatory labeling, since producers of high-emission products are less likely to display such labels. However, it is important to consider both costs and benefits of labeling schemes and to consider complementing labeling with other policy instruments. © The Author(s), 2023. Demokratiseringsprocesser: Nya perspektiv och utmaningar2023 (uppl. 3)Bok (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [sv]

Design process of live-action video instructions2023Ingår i: Expanding the Frontiers of Design: Critical Perspectives / [ed] Gabriela Goldschmidt, Ezri Tarazi, Routledge, 2023, s. 329-348Kapitel i bok, del av antologi (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this design project is to explore ways of co-designing instructional videos, together with representatives from the elderly care sector, that show how to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) related to the Covid-19 pandemic and how to follow basic hygiene routines. We have used Design Thinking (DT) and Research through design (RtD) methodology. The results show that the main improvements derived from using a co-design process were input on the details needed to make the video more realistic and reflective of real-world scenarios.

Exploring the nexus between sustainable tourism governance, resilience and complexity research2023Ingår i: Tourism Recreation Resarch, ISSN 0250-8281, E-ISSN 2320-0308, Vol. 48, nr 3, s. 352-367Artikel i tidskrift (Refereegranskat)
    Abstract [en]

Governance and complexity have increasingly become subjects of interest within research on sustainable tourism. Governance has been marked by a turn to more corporatist and networked policymaking structures. At the same time, the use of the concept of complexity in research on tourism destinations and governance is gaining momentum in an effort to address the links in increasingly networked systems as well as the interrelatedness of the multiple features of a tourist destination. Meanwhile, resilience has emerged as a new buzzword in research on sustainable development and governance which denotes the ability of a destination to cope with and adapt to change. This article reviews the literature on destination governance to identify critical issues and trends and discusses the relevance of complexity approaches. Evolutionary studies and research on resilience in a sustainability context are becoming part of this discussion. The review sheds light on the limitations and merits of each of these concepts, as well as on their nexus. The article concludes with some key areas for future research on destination governance. The aim of the review is to contribute to conceptual clarity and to advance the application of complexity approaches in research on destination governance.
