Socialsekreterares arbetsmiljö är ett omtalat ämne och det föreligger en omfattande personalomsättning inom yrkesprofessionen. Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka varför socialsekreterare inom socialtjänstens missbruksenhet väljer att stanna kvar på sin arbetsplats. Studien är av kvalitativ karaktär och empirin baseras på sex semistrukturerade intervjuer. Herzbergs motivationsteori används som teoretisk utgångspunkt och den insamlade empirin analyseras med hjälp av en tematisk analys. Resultatet visar att både interna och externa faktorer är av betydelse för viljan av att stanna kvar på arbetsplatsen. De interna faktorerna berör faktorer inom den enskilda socialsekreteraren, så som att tillfredsställa ett inre behov av att hjälpa andra. De externa faktorerna berör istället yttre omständigheterna, exempelvis arbetsuppgifter och kollegor. Dessa samverkar med varandra, men resultatet visar inga tendenser på att den ena skulle vara viktigare än den andra.

Social workers work environment is a mentioned topic and there is an extensive staff turnover in the profession. The aim of this study was to explore why social workers within the social services addiction abuse unit choose to remain in their workplace. The study is of a qualitative character and the data is based on six semi-structured interviews. The theoretical reference framework is Herzberg´s theory of motivation and the empirical data is analyzed using a thematic analysis. The result shows that both internal and external factors have an impact for the will to remain on the workplace. The internal factors refer to factors within the individual social worker, such as satisfying an inner need to help others. The external factors, instead, concern outer circumstances, such as work tasks and colleagues. These interact with each other, but the results show no tendencies that one would be more important than the other.
