Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund:9,25 miljoner människor i Europa haren demenssjukdom och antaletberäknas öka. Att leva med en demenssjukdom innebär olika neuropsykiatriska symtom som hindrarden kroppsliga funktionenochleder till att personer med demens blir fysisk inaktiva och mer stillasittande.Syfte: Syftet är att beskriva vilken betydelse fysisk aktivitet har för äldre personer med demens.Metod: Examensarbetet utfördes som en litteraturöversikt och baserades på 15 vetenskapliga artiklar. Artiklarna hämtades från databaserna PubMed, CINAHL samt PsycINFO och var publicerade mellan år 2010–2020.Resultat:Fysisk aktivitet påverkar den psykologiska funktionen genom att ge äldre personer med demens en ökad självkänsla, mindre depression samt bättre minne. Fysisk aktivitet påverkarocksåden kroppsliga funktionen då personer med demens blev mer rörliga samt att deras motorik och balans förbättrades. Sociala relationer kunde enklare etablerasoch engagemangetökadenär någon form av fysisk aktivitet utfördes av personerna.Slutsats:Litteraturöversiktens resultat visar att fysisk aktivitet är en positiv behandling hos personer med demens. Att vara fysisk aktiv visar sig ha en positiv effekt på kognitionen och minnet. Den fysiska aktiviteten hos äldre personer med demens bidrar till en tillvaro där relationer kan etableras och ett psykiskt välbefinnande förbättras. Fysisk aktivitet bidrar inte bara till en psykologisk positiv effekt, även den kroppsliga funktionen påverkas positivt då balans, rörlighet, muskel-och greppstyrkan förbättras hos personer med demens. Fysisk aktivitet kan skulle kunna vara ett alternativ till behandling för personer med en demenssjukdom för att uppnå hälsa.

Abstract [en]

Background:9.25 million people in Europe have dementia and the number is estimated to increase. Living with a dementia disease involves various neuropsychiatric symptoms that hinder bodily function and lead to people with dementia becoming physically inactive and more sedentary.Aim:The purpose is to describe the importanceof physical activity for older people with dementia.Methods: The thesis was conducted as a literature review based on 15 scientific articles. The articles were collected from databases PubMed, CINAHL and PsycINFO and were published between 2010-2020.Results:People with dementia showed improved feeling both physically and psychologically afterperforming physical activity. Dementia is slowed down by physical activity, wellbeing increased,and memory improved. The Bodily function became stronger and more enduring and social relationships could be more easily established. Barriers to performing physical activity could be understanding ability, fatigue, poor self-esteem,and the dementia itself.Conclusion:The results of the literature review show that physical activity is a positive treatment in people with dementia. Being physically active turns out to have a positive effect on cognition and memory. The physical activity for older people with dementia contributes to a life where relationships can be established,and a mental well-beingimproved. Physical activity not only contributes to a psychologically positive effect, but also the bodily function is positively affected as balance, mobility, muscle and grip strength are improved in people with dementia. Physical activity could be an alternative to treatment for people with dementia to achievehealth.
