Norm-breaking villains : An Analysis of Male and Female Antagonists from the MCU (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This study aims to explore and analyze the representation of female antagonists compared to their male counterparts within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Through character analysis, it seeks to understand the gendered differences in antagonist motives and their relation to social norms. By observing their actions and thoughts, a deeper insight into their motivations is gained. Comparing male and female antagonists offers insights into their behaviors in relation to femininity and masculinity. Identifying patterns and differences sheds light on behaviors that reinforce or challenge traditional gender norms, fostering broader discussions on representation and equality in media. The analysis revealed nuanced portrayals of female antagonists in MCU, challenging traditional gender norms and offering multifaceted representations. This study highlights the importance of nuanced gender representation in popular culture, emphasizing the need for diverse and multifaceted portrayals of female characters in media narratives.
