There is difference between youth and youth : Discursive constructions of young risk subjects in court orders guided by the Swedish Care of Young Persons Act (English)
Abstract [en]

The aim of the study is to examine and to analyze risk discourses in court orders guided by the Swedish Care of Young Persons Act 3§, and how these discourses are reflected in the portrayals of young people, and from the perspective of axes of power and difference. Using critical childhood- and youth studies, an exploratory intersectional perspective, and a Foucauldian discourse analysis, three different risk discourses are identified and analyzed. The three identified risk discourses are: youth as a risk to society, youth as a risk for themselves and youth as both a risk for themselves and to society. The results of the study show that the discursive portrayals of young people as risk subjects simultaneously imply differentiations on young people based on the difference markers of gender, ethnicity/”race”and age.
