The aim of this study is to identify key factors influencing undergraduate student success and improving resource allocation at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). HEIs have access to digital systems containing data on multiple course aspects, such as student performance, program and course structure, and completion rates. These systems serve as essential tools for evaluating and managing academic performance, including discovering areas needing improvement and allocating resources.
This study explores data gathered from these systems for three programs held at Dalarna University over three admission periods. Through the use of summary statistics and modeling, there was some evidence for valuable influenceable factors on throughput in a course; last reported day of examination, program code, student search priority, number of registered students on the course, and the resulting course factor of the course.
This study concludes the need for efficient administrative practices, well structured programs, strategic student recruitment, and digital systems supporting the needs of the HEI.
