Creating virtual rooms: A comparison of the listener experience of immersive techniques for binaural music production
Dalarna University, School of Culture and Society.
2024 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

Immersive audio is gaining popularity with technological advancement. This study aimed to gain a deeper understanding of the listener experience of binaural immersive music. The software programs Ambisonics, Dolby Atmos and Dear VR were compared through an online listening test. The results showed that listeners had varying experiences making it difficult to draw conclusions. However, the results indicated differences between the software programs, such as Dolby Atmos being easier to listen to, Ambisonics being the most immersive and best at moving audio, and Dear VR receiving more varying opinions than the others. The results also show that the software programs affected the sound and tonal qualities in different ways, although exactly how they affected the sound was not answered in this study.
