Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This survey explores how political rule and ideological values influence municipal efforts towards socio -economic housing segregation. This is a comparative casestudy of Malmö and Falköping. The purpose of the study is to investigate how decisions at national level influence housing segregation at the local level. The results show that Malmö exhibits a higher degree of both socio -economic and ethnic division than Falköping. Malmö, with social democratic rule, sees segregation as a structural problem and applies long -term collective measures. Falköping, with bourgeois rule, emphasizes the individual's responsibility and the contribution of civil society. The analysis uses four theoretical perspectives to highlight the differences in the municipalities' work.
