Bakgrund Att leva med obesitas utgör stora utmaningar för individer såväl i samhället som inom hälso- och sjukvården då de möts av stigmatisering och upplever utanförskap.

Syfte Att undersöka vuxna patienter med obesitas upplevelser av möten med hälso- och sjukvården.

Metod En strukturerad litteraturöversikt genomfördes med inslag av metodologin som används i systematiska översikter. Innehållet är baserat på tio artiklar från databasen CINAHL och databasvärden ProQuest.

Resultat Två huvudkategorier identifierades: “Känsla av utanförskap” och “Brister i vårdmötet” Varje huvudkategori fick sedan två underkategorier vardera.

Slutsats Patienter med obesitas upplever ett stigmatiserande och förminskande bemötande av hälso- och sjukvården. Sjuksköterskor behöver mer förståelse för hur de bör bemöta patientgruppen på ett personcentrerat och professionellt vis. 

Background Living with obesity poses major challenges for individuals both in society and within the healthcare system as they are faced with stigma and experience exclusion.

Aim To investigate adult patients with obesity's experiences of encounters with healthcare.

Method A structured literature review was conducted, incorporating elements of the methodology used in systematic reviews. The content is based on eight qualitative and two quantitative articles retrieved from the database CINAHL and ProQuest which is a host for several databases.

Results Two main categories were identified: “The feeling of exclusion” and “Deficiencies in the care meeting” Each main category was then given two subcategories each.

Conclusions Obese patients experience stigmatizing and belittling treatment from healthcare professionals. Nurses need more knowledge and understanding in how to meet this group of patients in a person-centered and professional way.
