Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The ability of leaders to motivate their employees is of great importance for effective work and prosperous organizations. The purpose of the study is to understand which leadership styles are used to create motivation in employees and to compare this between manufacturing and knowledge-intensive organizations. Through 6 semi-structured interviews with leaders in knowledge-intensive organizations and manufacturing companies, we have collected empirical data about the leaders' leadership styles and work to motivate their employees and then compared the results between the different types of operations. The results show that a transformative leadership style with elements of democratic leadership and a situation-adapted mindset is the leadership used in both knowledge-intensive organizations and manufacturing companies.
