Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

As long-term unemployment continues to rise in Sweden, the need to promote social inclusion for those excluded from the labor market becomes increasingly urgent. This qualitative study aims to explore the role of non-governmental organization in fostering social inclusion among the long-term unemployed. Based on semi-structured interviews with representatives from six different non-governmental organizations, the study investigates which resources these organizations provide access to, and how they may function as bridging actors between individuals in social exclusion and key societal arenas. The results show that non-governmental organizations offer more than just work-oriented interventions, they also provide social meeting places, cultural activities, and act as channels for important information. At the same time, several challenges are identified, such as limited resources, lack of cooperation with public authorities, and insufficient municipal support, all of which hinder the organizations' capacity to expand and secure funding. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how civil society can complement public efforts and concludes with suggestions for future research, including the implementation of the IPS model and individuals’ own experiences of support.
